The Cruelty of "Almost"

There is a quiet mercy in a door being slammed shut.

When someone tells you, “We aren’t right for each other,” it breaks your heart, but it gives you solid ground. You get to be angry. You get to grieve, heal, and move on.

The real cruelty lives in the gentle rejections:

“We’re so good together, just not right now. Maybe in the future.”

It’s meant to sound kind, but it’s actually a sentence. It’s a cliffhanger designed to soften their guilt while leaving you suspended in limbo. It asks you to stay parked in the hallway of a life they’ve already walked away from, afraid to move on because doing so feels like breaking a promise.

When someone gives you the "wrong time" speech, they aren't fighting for a future with you—they are deciding that a life without you today is a risk they are willing to take.

A half-open door doesn't bring in fresh air; it just lets the cold in.

The hardest part of an "almost" isn't letting go of who they were. It’s having the courage to walk over, close that door yourself, and stop waiting for someone who chose to leave.

When dose the pain go away.

Blocked/delete

Getting over a ex is hardest thing ever especially when the other person acts like its no big deal.

I asked my ex to block me on all media platforms and he responded by saying he understands and today I deleted his number it was something I been struggling with as I been debating on reaching out.

But now the door is closed it hurts to close it but needs to happen just hope to find peace in happiness again one day god willing.

Dating after a breakup

I have friends who experience a breakup and just serial date or sleep around a bit shortly after. They never seem super devastated for long.

I never been that kinda person and tend to just kinda stay away from dating months sometimes a year after a serious breakup.

What's people experience or advice on dating after a breakup?

38(f) coming out of a relationship with 40(m)

As a single mom I have worked really hard to focus on my education sobriety and giving stability to my kids. I got my degree and have a stable fairly good paying job. Things are tough but we manage.

I haven't really dated in 5 years so this was my first serious relationship where my kids were introduced outside my children father and also his first relationship in 4 years after 2 failed relationships due to him being cheated on and taken advantage of he has no kids

This relationship came fully unexpectedly and it moved very quickly. At first it seemed like things were moving well and my kids were introduced to the relationship. It seemed safe and secure enough. We discussed having kids as it was something he always wanted.

With age I think we were moving a little quicker. After 7 months I became pregnant. During the pregnancy he started changing, distancing himself, making excuses not to see us ect. Pregnancy ended in miscarriage he cried but also seemed relieved as he said it wasn't good timing.

Following i decided to take a break from the relationship to kinda reflect on things after a month we decided to move forward back into a relationship. After a couple months things seemed to be going good but once again he began being distant not telling me about his weekend plans and when I started complaining about the distance or lack of communication he would say “ I know i need to prioritize you and the kids you guys are important” so I decided to just stop trying to make plans and just let him see us when he want to.

Long story short I told him I'm tired of him putting us in this small place in his life and not fully accepting us into his life. He came off like he was ready for a serious relationship but as time went on he seems to have changed. He said he understands and said nothing else and I stopped talking to him for a few days.

I finally reached out and asked him what he wants if he wants to be in a relationship with me or should we just part ways and I deserve for him to be honest.

He said “he loves me and I was the first relationship he had that he felt truly loved and respected and I was the most amazing thing that ever happened to him and he truly never thought he would meet anyone and had accepted just living single life and he thought he had healed from his past but as time went on all the fear came up and he realized he hasn't. And it hurts him to let me go but he feels like he needs to because it's not fair to hang on to me and he needs to finish working on himself and wish he met me years ago. And if I ever need anything he's a phone call always because he'll always be there to support me and my kids and he loves me always”

I just said okay I respect him and just hope he's happy. I love him too.

He said “ I'm happy with you but can't be the man you deserve right now” but maybe one day?

I said nothing.

It's been a month and I still hurt everyday I truly do love him and miss his friendship but also angry and feels like he was playing games.

But now my friends say it's better to have just stayed because of my age and being a single mom. It's better to have some support then no support. So just patch it up. Now I'm just torn. Should I have just kept my mouth shut and taken what I could get or just move on.

I just want to do right by myself and kids. Just so confused and starting to regret speaking up.

Any advice would be great.
