AITA for refusing to remove a semi-nude statue of Aphrodite from my garden after my neighbour complained about its ‘depravity.’
I’m actually disconcerted how my neighbour shouted over the back fence to me and points my statue, it’s a three ft replica of Botticell’s venus and said “Remove that depravity, my grandkids can see it.”
There’s a 6 ft fence between us so I don’t know how a child under 16 can see it but it’s the depravity I took umbrage with. Botticelli’s venus isn’t a salacious depiction; only one breast is visible and her hair cascades over her other breast and private parts. She’s just stood on the edge of a danity seashell. She’s art.
So, I said, no I will not move her. She’s facing my house and she’s not facing towards your house or fence so you’d have to point her out to a child for them to see it.
She became irate and then asked me to cover it with a towel when her grandkids were over.
I said no again. It’s unreasonable for me to censor my art when those children are your responsibility.
Of course, she starts calling me a bitch and a dirty cow for having naked women in my garden. And she called me a lezza? I’m assuming this is a pejorative for a gay woman.
I’m not moving it. She’s acting like I’ve put a massive 10ft phallus in her drive way or it’s pan sodomising a goat. It’s just the goddess of beauty and I like her in my garden.
