19M American considering 1-2 week winter trip to Russia, parents worried I'll get arrested.

Hey everyone,

I’m a 19-year-old American guy thinking about planning a short trip to Russia this winter (probably 1–2 weeks). I mentioned it to my parents and my mom immediately freaked out and literally almost started to cry. She said I’d get jailed the second I step off the plane just for being American. My dad is more unsure but still hesitant.

I know the official U.S. advice is Level 4 “Do Not Travel,” and I’m not ignoring that. I’m mainly trying to get a more grounded picture from people who actually live there or have recent experience with American tourists.

A few specific questions:

For regular American tourists (not journalists, not activists), how common is extra scrutiny or real trouble at the border or in major cities like Moscow/St. Petersburg?

Has anyone here hosted or met American visitors recently? What was their experience like day-to-day?

Any practical tips for a short winter trip (visa process, cash, registration, things to avoid, etc.) that would help keep things smooth?

I’m not looking to debate politics, just want honest, practical perspectives so I can decide whether this is realistic and how to talk to my parents about it.

Thanks in advance.

AITA for jerking off at my desk under my hoodie while watching my hot coworker on a Zoom call and then asking her out afterwards?

I (29M) work remote most days but we have hybrid meetings. There's this one coworker (27F) who always looks amazing on camera tight tops, great angles, the works.

During a long team Zoom the other day I got super horny just watching her talk. I had my camera off, so I slipped my hand under my hoodie, pulled it out, and quietly rubbed one out at my desk while she was presenting. Finished right as she wrapped up. No mess, very discreet.

After the call I messaged her privately saying she killed the presentation and asked if she would give lap dances for cash sometime after work. She left me on read and now she's been awkward in Slack. One of my coworkers who sits near her in the office apparently heard her telling another girl that I give off "pervert vibes" lately. I was literally gonna give her money for it!

I don't see the big deal. Everyone gets horny during boring meetings and she's objectively hot. Asking her out was a compliment. AITA for mixing business with a little personal pleasure? People are so sensitive these days.

Was I in the wrong for feeling embarrassed after today’s tryouts? Freshman who went from confident shooter to an unconfident shooter.

Prior to high school I was one of the best shooters in middle school never went a full game or pickup without hitting at least one three. I was confident every time I touched the ball.

Ever since high school started my shot has been completely broken. I’ve also been a pretty good passer, but every time I touch the ball now everyone on the other team backs way off like I have the coronavirus. Today at tryouts was the worst. They were openly yelling “Leave him open, he can’t shoot if his life depended on it” and “That’s far from green.” I went 1/7 from the field… and the one make was a wide open putback layup. When I caught the ball in the corner nearing the end of the tryout, for the first time ever I passed up a wide open corner 3 because I was too low on confidence in my shot anymore.

The one positive is my defense has been elite. I poked the ball out multiple times, got some blocks, and have basically turned into a defensive menace. It feels like I traded all my offense for defense. Also, my passes to cutters have been on the money.

However, I’m seriously wondering if I should just stop shooting threes altogether and fully lean into being a defender/passer. Freshman year has been a brutal reality check and I’ve never felt this embarrassed playing the sport I love.

Has anyone else ever had their shot completely broken like mine after transitioning to high school? Tips on fixing mechanics/confidence or advice on committing to a defensive specialist role? Real talk appreciated.

Cousin (19M, Minnesota) first DUI totaled truck into tree, fractured side of face. How bad are the consequences likely?

My close cousin (19) got a DUI in Minnesota last week. He was drinking and driving, crashed into a tree, totaled his truck, and fractured the entire one side of his face pretty badly. He’s lucky to be alive.

This is (as far as we know) his first offense. No one else was hurt. He still has his job somehow, but obviously facing legal/medical fallout.

How serious is this likely to get for a first-time offender with injury involved? Jail time realistic? What usually happens in MN with Criminal Vehicular Operation or whatever they charge? Any similar stories?

Not looking for sympathy, just trying to understand how screwed his upcoming years might be. Thanks.

Was I in the wrong for this? High school basketball practice turned into a full fight after I called out the soft "star" player

I'm a sophomore on the JV team. Today at practice the varsity "star" senior let's call him Kyle, Kyle was dogging it hard again. He's the type who scores 20 points a game but plays zero defense, complains about every foul, and walks up and down the court like he's too good for drills.

Mid scrimmage he half-assed a closeout on me, I blew by him easy, and I got fed up. I said loud enough for everyone to hear, "Bro stop being so soft, this is why we lose every big game. You're all offense no heart."

He lost it. Got in my face yelling "What the fuck did you say?" Then he shoved me hard. I shoved back and it turned into a full fight. He ripped his practice jersey off like some WWE wannabe trying to look tough dude is tall and skinny with no muscle definition, just lanky arms and a bird chest, looking all pale and sweaty. I took mine off too and you could actually see I lift and have some build from training. We started throwing hands I landed a couple clean ones to his shoulder and ribs, he got one weak shot to my arm. Coaches and players had to pull us apart.

Now the head coach is threatening to suspend me for "instigating team drama" while babying Kyle because he's the leading scorer. The team group chat is full of people saying I need to apologize to "keep the peace." Even his girlfriend (this annoying cheerleader who thinks she's hot shit) is in a different group chat calling me a "jealous bench warmer" and telling everyone I'm trying to sabotage the team.

Was I in the wrong for calling out soft play? Practice is supposed to make us better, not protect egos. Real players know what's up.

AITA for wanting 1-2 hours alone in a hotel room and making my parents think I have bad intentions?

I’m 15M, and I’m going on a short trip with my dad to Laughlin, Nevada. We’re staying at a hotel/casino resort. My dad likes spending time in the sportsbook and casino areas, so I asked him something like, “If you place a wager, would you want to watch it in the sportsbook?” He said yes, and then asked, “Why? Do you want to be alone in the hotel room?” I said yeah, because honestly, I’ve never had a space completely to myself before (other than being home alone sometimes), and it sounded cool to have 1–2 hours of quiet time in a room that’s just mine for a bit. At first, he seemed totally fine with it.

But then he told my mom. And suddenly they both started assuming the absolute worst, like I’d bring a girl over and have sex, or start doing drugs. Which makes no sense because I don’t know anyone in Laughlin, and I’ve always been a responsible kid. I get straight As, I’ve never gotten in trouble, and I even won an award at school for best behavior in my entire grade.

When I tried to explain that I just wanted to experience what it feels like to have your own place for a short anount of time, my dad raised his voice and said, “Do you think we weren’t teenagers once?! We know what it was like and I don’t want that happening to you!” I get that parents worry, but it honestly made me feel insulted. It felt like they were assuming I’d suddenly act like a completely different person than who I’ve been my whole life. I wasn’t asking for anything risky, just a little independence and quiet time.

So… AITA for wanting a couple hours alone in the hotel room?

Posted this on AITA and got mostly YTA — curious what the Bitcoin community thinks

I posted a situation on AITA earlier and got a ton of YTA responses, so I wanted to hear from people who actually understand Bitcoin and the tech behind it. For context: (im a 15M and my cousin is 20M) I’m into Bitcoin on a small personal level. I’m not a trader, not trying to get rich quick, nothing like that. I’ve been learning for a while and have about $2k in a cold wallet that I just hold long‑term.

My grandma is pretty curious about new technology. She’s asked me questions about Bitcoin before, and I thought it might be fun to show her how it works by sending her a tiny amount (like $20) from my own money, only if she wanted to try it. More like a hands‑on demo than “you should invest.”

My cousin is extremely anti‑crypto and very anti‑capitalist. When he heard about this, he got upset and said I was “taking advantage of her” and “pushing risky investments on an old person,” even though she wouldn’t be spending anything and I wasn’t telling her to buy or invest. AITA basically agreed with him and said I was the asshole for even considering showing her how Bitcoin works.

So I’m curious what this community thinks: Is it wrong to teach an older family member about Bitcoin if they’re interested, even if you’re using your own money and not encouraging them to invest? Genuinely want to hear the Bitcoin community’s perspective.
