No AC or roof fan, getting cooked before 6am
I'm about two weeks into summer in a converted Transit and I'm losing it. No AC, no roof fan yet. Just front windows cracked open with bug screens, a cheap little rechargeable fan I got off tiktok when it had a price cut, and a reflective windshield cover wedged up front.
I've been camping around 5,000-6,000 ft on Forest Service roads and trying to point the side door away from sunrise. Works until a dumb gap in the trees lets the sun hit the metal. Then it's a toaster. Fan just moves hot air from my face to my knees. I tried sleeping with the side door fully open one night and woke up to a moth party on my pillow so that's done.
By 6am I'm awake, sheets damp, patience gone. I just sit outside in my shorts drinking lukewarm water out of the jug because even that's warm now. My phone says 74 outside but inside the van it's easily 85+. Yesterday I drove to a gas station just to stand in the air conditioning for ten minutes and buy ice I didn't need.
Budget's tight right now so AC or cutting the roof isn't happening anytime soon. What's actually working for you guys? Reflective side covers, tarp shade setups, parking tricks, DIY swamp cooler? Open to anything that doesn't involve spending a grand.
