Am I there? Close?

39yo $556k total invested:

- $282k in 401k
- $135k Roth IRA
- $120k brokerage
- $14k HSA

- $140k in HYSA

I’ve looked at a few calculators as well as AI and have gotten mixed results. Would I be able to retire at 65? I still plan on contributing but just trying to see where I’m at currently. Expenses between $100k - $120k but could probably go cheaper

Taking Data Analysis courses at local CC?

I’m looking into taking a data analytics program at my local community college. Looks to be 4 courses:

- excel analytics
- data analysis (excel analytics pre req)
- sql database essentials
- database programming with sql and Python

Has anyone done something similar? Would you recommend it?

For context, my background is in SEM and I’d like to supplement those skills with SQL as well as open the door to possibly pivot into data analysis. I feel like completing these courses might bolster my resume a bit and help with that goal. I already have some experience with Excel (pivot tables/v lookup) and have done some online SQL work (still beginner) so I’m wondering if this is a good path to take. Would appreciate any recommendations.

I want to pivot to Marketing Analytics

I’ve worked in SEM for roughly 15 years. my last stint was 8 years on an e-commerce site building and optimizing campaigns until I was laid off a couple weeks ago. I want to pivot out of SEM and into something else (marketing analytics/revenue analyst/marketing ops etc). I’m considering taking some courses at my local community college for SQL, Excel, Python. is this a good move? will this help me get out of SEM and into another field? what would you recommend? any certifications?

How do I make the jump to a true PPC Manager?

Got laid off last week after 8 years at legitimately the best company I ever worked for. They were super generous with compensation and title. So much so that I was given a Senior Digital Marketing title. Now when I look at jobs for those roles I feel completely overwhelmed.

At my old job, I was in charge of a massive e-commerce account but it involved a lot of people’s input. We had dev and Ops setting up the framework in our internal system for reporting/testing/tracking. My job was essentially to launch new campaigns, review performance, and optimize. I was in our CRO call but never set up any tests myself. I also have 0 experience with tag manager. I dont have experience with PMAX or AIMax because it didn’t fit our business. We were strictly SEM. No SEO or social. Our VP of Ops would created our reports from SQL. I don’t know SQL. I could tell her what I wanted to see and she could make the report for me but a lot of it was already built out by her.

I feel trapped because my title is “senior” but I don’t feel like my skills back it up whatsoever. I’m worried I’m an imposter/fraud and if I take on a Performance Marketing Manager role I’m going to choke/freeze up/ panic and just fail miserably. I really need some guidance and advice rn bc I’m in a huge state of stress. I’m going to purchase the analyticsMania program for GTM bc it’s highly recommended on this sub. I also purchased a domain so I can practice setting up tags in Adwords as well as gain familiarity with webpage optimization. Is this a good idea? Is there something more I should be doing? If anyone is open to a mentorship or just let me pick their brain in depth I’d be super grateful. That said, where else can I upskill that would be valuable?

What do you do to become and expert on a new account?

Say you just started a new job as a PPC manager and you’re looking at a Google Ads account for the first time. What do you prioritize first? How do you determine an account’s health/success? What are some things you’ll do to validate whether an account is optimized? How do identify KPIs for that account? What process do you have that makes you feel knowledgeable and comfortable pulling levers in a new account? What do you do to become a expert on a new account?

I know this is a very broad question but I think the replies from the experts in this sub would be invaluable.

I think for me the priority always starts with learning about attribution and how an account’s conversion structure is setup. Is conversion tracking working correctly? Are revenues being tied at the keyword level or somewhere else? Is there a lifecycle to a conversion before revenue is established or is it more direct checkout?

I then will look at campaign structure and what KPIs are being used to measure performance. How are the campaigns and ad groups segmented? How are keyword types segmented? What are the ads promoting and who might be the target audience? I’d also look at historical performance to get a better understanding of spend at a daily/weekly/monthly look back probably at the campaign level and then within to identify high performing and low performing ad groups.

Along those lines, id also want to look at the competitor landscape via auction insights and SEM Rush (if provided) as well as AI to identify competitors, get an idea of what theirs ads and landers look like, and what the auction cost might look like.

thats kind of a starting point for me but I’m really interested to hear what other people’s processes are when getting started with a brand new account. there’s more I would do (check bid type, scheduling, etc) but I’m curious to know if there are some areas I may be overlooking.

Made a thread some while back but no luck there. Figured I’d ask here even if it’s a long shot. It’s the poster with the woman and grackle birds

Been scouring the web for quite some time trying to find this at a decent price. If anyone has a copy and is looking to move in from it give me a holler
