The "AI 2nd harbour Bridge joke" was already a dead meme 24 hours ago, no need to keep spamming it guys

No one knows how to kill an already basic joke like r/auckland, seriously, do people that keep posting their AI 2nd harbour Bridge idea truly believe their version of the joke is any funnier that the previous 20?

These types of challenges aren't motivating

When I see a daily change that asks me to finish 5+ lessons above a certain percent I just ignore them.

I like duo, but im not sticking around for 5 or 6 lessons to get a quest point.

How do you handle cheap roommates who use all your "communal" things but don't contribute anything themselves?

I've got an annoying little problem in my flat right now. I've lived in the same flat for 4 years, and as previous cycles of roommates have come and gone, I've slowly ended up buying more and more communal things for the flat. Now the house is almost fully furnished.

Things like furniture and a tv for the living room, pots n pans, cutlery, and appliances for the kitchen, etc.

A few months ago, 3 new roommates moved in, and they have gotten very comfortable using all my property while not buying anything themselves. I'm happy to share what I have, but I kinda expected them to start buying something to contribute to the flat.

If I moved out today, the house would be 95% empty apart from their individual rooms.

I don't want to be petty or passive-aggressive towards my roommates, but I feel like they won't buy anything of their own unless I force it on them.

Burger King's "free burger" when you fill out a survey for them is a rip off. Don't bother wasting your time with it

Recently, I went to Burger King for a meal. While I was eating, I noticed that I could claim a free Whopper or BK chicken if I filled out a survey linked on my receipt. I thought that was a pretty good payout for doing a quick online survey, so I filled it out and received my free Burger code.

I went to go redeem it today, and I found out that to claim your free burger, you have to first buy at least a regular fries and drink.

What a rip-off! According to my local BK, a Whopper is $9.80, and a reg fries/drink is $9.75.

So, in order to claim my "reward," I have to spend essentially an equal amount of money before I can get it? I'm not naive, I knew I'd have to buy something to claim it, but forcing customers to but the 2 most marked up items on the menu to do so is unnecessarily hostile to your customers.

In all fairness, the terms and conditions were laid out from the start, I just missed them. I still don't know why BK bothers with this reward system if they clearly don't want to give away their burgers. Why not just offer something cheaper like a cheeseburger like Maccas does?

Some of us are casual Duolingo users, please make hard mode optional!

I don't want to hear Eddy's obnoxious "ughhhh" or "wohoo!" Every again.

Please make hard mode a bonus feature for users who want to challenge themselves. I've got a full-time job and a family to look after. If I get a moment in the day, I'll squeeze in a lesson or 2 on duolingo. I don't have the time or patience to listen to Eddy's annoying noises just because I'm doing good on my lessons.

It's completely killing any motivation to keep using this app. I just want to use duo to casually learn a new language, not challenge my brain after a long day.

What is it with roommates that don't throw used toilet paper rolls in the rubbish?

I've got a tiny rant compared to some other users on this sub (but it's still driving me crazy)

I live with 2 other roommates, and for some reason, neither of them ever throw away toilet paper rolls after they've used the last of the paper?

I don't get it? They will either leave it empty on the TP holder or lay it on the bathroom floor, which is weird because there is actually a trash can in the bathroom that is within arm's reach if you're sitting on the toilet.

I've confronted them about it, and they said, "They'd be tidier in the future," but that didn't happen.

Obviously this is only a small issue, but I can't figure out how someone could be so lazy that they can't throw something in the trash when the trash is 1 foot away from them when they need it?

What's the logic here?

Why can't certain roommates understand that the trash needs to be sorted, emptied, and taken out regularly?

I just can't understand why some roommates either don't comprehend or refuse to do their part when it comes to chores and trash.

It's pretty simple. Rubbish goes into the smaller bins inside the house, when those are full you empty them into the bins outside that the city issued us, if you have recycling it goes into the special recycling bin, on the same day every week the trash gets put out curbside and it gets collected for us. Simple, right?

Why can't my roommates figure it out? They will happily full the bins inside the house but never empty them.

They will put recycling in the general trash and general trash in the recycling, then complain when the city won't empty our bins?

They will act shocked when I tell them rubbish day is on Tuesday, just like it has been for the past 9 months.

Obviously, I've tried talking and confronting my roommates, but nothing has worked so far

Roomates that hog the living room TV but scroll on their phone the whole time and don't even watch what they put on.

Seriously, if you are going to occupy a communal space, then at least use the item you are hogging. If you were just going to scroll and not pay attention to the tv, then just stay in your room.

Social media algorithms telling you about events that have already happened that you can't take part in by the time you hear about it

I've seen this happen so many times. I'm talking about when you are scrolling on social media, and you'll see a post talking about an event that has already happened and that you can't go to now that it's already past.

Not too long ago, In n Out Burger opened a pop-up restaurant in New Zealand for one day only (to protect their IP) in n out only does this once every 10 years. I love in n out, and it would have been really cool to have gone and got a burger when I had the chance. They won't be back in NZ for another 10 years.

The problem was that even though multiple posts and videos were circulating on social media, they only hit my feed after the pop-up store had closed.

"Hey, In n Out burger will be opening a pop-up store Auckland on Saturday for 24 hours, come on down for a burger," seen on Wednesday.

Most of the comments on the posts were along the lines of "why am I only hearing about this now?"

This happens so often on community pages and other sites, too. I get that algorithms push what's "popular," but surely if posts include dates, then the system should know to promote it more BEFORE he event happens because the post becomes pointless afterwards?

When grown ass adults don't read emails correctly then they get mad when their requests can't be accommodated

I recently had to organise a "team building event" for my company (im not the boss, I was just given this job)

I put together a pretty solid plan for the day. I organised the activities we'd be doing, transport, food, and other admin items. Once it was all in place I emailed all the employees in our company explaining how things would work.

It was very simple. The day was optional, so anyone that wanted to come just had to reply with: what activities they wanted to do, if they had any allergies for lunch, and if they needed shuttles booked to pick them up/drop them off. Everyone had weeks to reply to multiple emails I sent out.

After the date I needed all the replies in by came and went, I booked everything in

Why on the day of the team building event did I suddenly have people calling me and showing up to the event who didn't tell me that:

They wanted to take part in the activities even though they never replied to the emails I sent out?

They had food allergies that I couldn't account for because they didn't mention it in their reply to my email, and

I had people asking why the shuttle hadn't picked them up even though they never indicated they needed a ride?

So frustrating.

Every website/app making you "verify" yourself even after logging in correctly

Why does every website/app make you verify yourself so often?

It feels like every 2nd time I log into an account I'm required to verify it's really me by: receiving a text, answering a question, following a link back to my email, or doing some stupid capatcha challenge.

If I've logged into my account using my credentials, on the same device I always use, without a VPN, then I shouldn't need to verify it's really me!

Is there a way to change my reddit widget back to the normal version? Android

I hate it when apps change your widgit, it's not quirky, it's lame.

Let me keep the default widgit and give other users the option to change it IF they want

Is there a way to set all subreddits to show me posts from "hot" instead of "best"? Android

Im new to reddit, and I've been checking out a few subreddits. One thing that I've found annoying is that every time I look at a sub for the first time, it shows me the "best" posts that give me results from all over the place.

I prefer "hot" posts, but the only way I can find to set that is manually on each individual sub.

Is there a way to change my settings so every sub defaults to showing me hot posts?
