I've been really enjoying Season 2 so far!
I've viewed this show as a cool opportunity to "remix" the original show, and I've loved it.
The scene of Katara teaching Aang to heal, with the sea serpent from the Serpent's Pass was really sweet to see.
Iron and Zuko working in the fields were really interesting. Also, I love how GREEN the Earth Kingdom looks!! Goodbye beige desert, hello woodlands. 🌲💚
And the intros to each episode, with the Earth symbol actually made out of rocks as part of the landscape? 10/10, an amazing use that actually makes more sense as part of a live-action show.
The painted lady taking place in Ba Sing Se was cool (plus the mural). The community of Fire Nation refugess living in Ba Sing Se, and the fight with Zuko and Katara/Painted Lady was interesting!
Iroh watching a protestor that Earthbends names into the wall was really cool! That scene made me cry if I'm being honest. Same for the scene of the man trying to rob Iroh.
The "Leaves from the Vine" scene definitely made me cry too. This stuff makes me emotional, okay?
I loved how this show seems to have more of Toph talking about dealing with upper-class social life.
The scene at the party of Sokka talking about losing Yue and Suki, and him and Katara bonding over the loss of their mother kinda made me cry too. One of my favorite scenes in the show. 10/10.
And also, the cactus juice, lol. (Although the "giant mushroom" quote doesn't make as much sense as in the original show.)
The scenes of Sokka talking to the professor looking for the Library was cool to see.
I liked the whole subplot of Aang bonding with Long Feng at the party was really sweet, Katara wishing Aang would talk to the team, and Aang mentioning how she hasn't really been there recently (because of the Painted Lady stuff) was a really cool change.
The reveal of Toph's parents "adapting" to the war and getting involved with the Fire Nation was a cool change as well! (I believe this originally was with the engineer guy who lived in the Air Temple, but I think he was forced to make weapons for them to save his son, the Beifong's reasons seem to be more business-related.)
Omg, the scenes of Zuko's childhood, and comparing the parenting styles of his father and mother was really cool to see.
THE CAST:
I wasn't crazy about some of the cast at first, but I've warmed up to them. Sokka's and Toph's actors are one of my FAVORITES. Long Feng might be my favorite actor in the show so far. I loved how friendly he seemed at first. Aang and Katara are pretty good, same for Zuko and Iroh. Especially Iroh.
I'm warming up to Azula (no pun intended). Her, Mai, and Ty-Lee are pretty fun to see on screen.
Anyway, I just wanted to share some positivity about this show. I know the show isn't perfect, but I love these characters, and think it's an awesome chance to experience this show we all love in a different way. 🥹
