fish cancer????

please read the whole post!

Hey yall! Ive had this rosy red minnow for about two years now (got him as a feeder fish from petsmart, life expectancy was like a week if that) and he’s also had some weird quirks i’ve attributed to poor breeding and genetics. This is where he got his name, Stupid Fish, because he is very stupid (digging in rocks, refusing to school, swimming vertical circles, digging up plants, splashing me while i sleep, etc). Today I noticed a lump on him and went back through photos and he’s had it at least since august 10th. I did recently move my aquarium back with me to college, and i had to do a 100% water change due to an issue i had with WSSV and my crayfish. I also got new plants, and two new platties (all properly quarantined). with the big changes i was concerned this was a stress thing, but august 10th is BEFORE any of these changes. I’ve also been heavily monitoring water levels and quality due to these changes, and they have been excellent and stable.

he doesn’t have symptoms of dropsy, ich, or swim bladder issues and i’m very concerned this could be a tumor/cyst or like cancer.

i wanted to go to reddit first, but in the mean time because i am on a college campus for an R1 research university, i will be asking our bio department for any fish experts or grad students to help me.

pictures attached, it appears to have started small as one lump and is now larger and looking like 2 close together

recommended species

I recently lost all of my crayfish (passed to disease, White Spot Syndrome Virus). I’m looking to get a new crayfish once the tank is all sterilized and cycled again, what do people reccomend?

I had marbled crays but honestly i’d like to avoid the parthenogenesis because it was a hassle.

I was thinking a mexican dwarf, lemme know your thoughts!

what is growing on her?

i recently found these white specks on my marbled cray, and i’m not sure if it’s a good parasite or a bad one. i’m sorry the photos are so blurry, i couldn’t get a clearer one without taking her out

she’s been lethargic and refusing food, im really worried it might be WSSV

got nightmares? boy do i have the solution for you

ive been diagnosed with ptsd for CSA and have always been plagued with night terrors and nightmares. recently i found the greatest solution besides taking clonidine and 5 benadryl (if your asleep enough, you don’t get any dreams)

here’s the tech:
-listen to genuinely scary horror stories or creepy pastas, or play horror movies at a very low volume when you fall asleep

i garuntee at least 6/10 times you will have nightmares about that rather than the other stuff. fool proof.
