Dunsmuir House

Dunsmuir House

I was watching Phantasm remembering Reggie Bannister and as I was watching it again after a long time, it occurred to me I had seen this house in another Horror Movie; Burnt Offerings. I looked it up and it’s the Dunsmuir House in Oakland, CA. It’s a Historical Site and there are tours of it.

Keith Haring

Finished this today. Frustrated that I’m waiting on a piece to finish. They shorted me.

The green tiles are two slightly different shades you don’t see it further away.

1995 timeline

Gerard Styles Ghostly Stink Face

Here we go again. A malevolent silent ghost, tinkly music and a ghostly woman. Sort of a rerun of Quentin.

88 Lines About 44 Women - The Nails

Originally on their 1982 EP Hotel for Women. The song was re-released on their 1984 Debut Album Mood Swing.

One of the most innovative and original club songs.

A thought for today

The World in our heads doesn’t really match what is put in the real world. Our reality is altered by survival mode.

What was Grunge?

What was Grunge? Who was Grunge? Its the shortest lived Genre of Music based in Seattle. This young lady who made this video is very well informed. She explains it all well. If it didn’t start in Seattle; it wasn’t grunge. Many bands were in the Alternative Rock Genre.

Grunge died in 1994 following the death of Kurt Cobain. By then, Mainstream Culture was trying to ape it, brand it and sell it. The most funny incident us when the New York Times was given a lexicon of Grunge which contained made up phrases that were a joke on the Mainstream. By then Grunge Fashion was being made up by designers later called Heroin Chic. The Irony was Marc Jacobs was releasing a “Grunge” collection from what was Thrift Store Clothes.

Starting in the late 80’s; a lot of folks were thrifting and making outfits literally out of what was found. Flannel Shirts being a common staple in Thrift Stores became the go to clothing choice. Jeans, work pants, band Tees, with combat boots (from your Army Navy Surplus) or is you had so e money; Doc Martins. There was no real look. It’s what you found and made yourself.

It was an exciting period of music. It was an exciting time.

Anyway; this video is the story of grunge.

Remember Dark Shadows?

I watched this with my mom before school started. In 68 I really started understanding it. I loved it because I loved monsters. It went off the air when I was in second grade.

1897 End

I hated the way the 1897 story ends with a thud. Kitty Siamese becomes Josette and we go back to 1797 just to see Josette’s story arc change slightly from a jump of Widow’s Hill to poison in the Old House and the the Leviathan Story line. The worst. This is when Dark Shadows began to decline. 1897 was the last really good storyline.

Come Back

I’ve been a DM fan since I was 17. My friend Guy’s uncle lived in London and he’d send the latest music over to him every month. In that parcel was Speak and Spell. We were mesmerized. I was hooked. I always felt that DM had written the soundtrack for me as a young gay man. One song came that really shook me and had meaning.

My husband had a bad seizure and was in a coma for 60 days. Sounds had come out previously in the fall. This song really became meaningful for me. I’d walk to the hospital every day and play music on my iPod. I was in his room listening to this album, and Come Back hit me with a wallop. I began singing the song to him. I was begging him to come back, letting him know I was waiting for him. Everyday I sand this song to him, sometimes sobbing afterwards. Come back to me, love. I’m here. I’d spend 8 hours a day there. I’d touch him, talk to him, play music for him. I wore the cologne Passion for Men, my favorite. I’d spray it on my hand, hold it near him so he could smell it. Smell is our strongest, most primal sense. Around day 61 he began coming out. I told him I love you and he said I love you too. That’s all he said but he began gaining more consciousness and in a week I could talk with him. He needed rehab after that. There was some brain damage but he was still himself.

I credit that song for keeping me going and for his returning. I still cry when I hear it. Sadly, my husband died 6 years ago from Covid, I had it too. I feel Momento Mori has a strong connection to me too.

I love DM. They mean the most to me.

Doors to Infinity

Haven’t heard this in a while. Ran errands blasting this. Killer album. Remember seeing them with Manson. The first 3 songs—blows me away.

Charity Trask/Pansy Faye

Starting to wrap up the 1897 Storyline. Pansy entertains Lady Hampshire (Kitty) in the Blue Whale and has a vision to impart. Nancy Barret is so much fun to watch on this role. Some of her best acting.

The restless spirit of Pansy Faye takes hold in Charity Trask. The juxtaposition between the prim and proper Charity Trask Pansy Faye, a Cockney Dance Hall Girl/Psychic is so entertaining.

Pansy shook up Collinwood and the Dark Shadows viewers in 1969 with an act so shocking. I won’t say because it’s a surprise if you’ve never watched it.

I watched Dark Shadows in first grade and I fell in love with this character. Still do.

“I’m gonna dance for you…”
