Stand-up comic held for jokes about Erdoğan and Islam in Turkey crackdown

Deniz was on a vacation and came back knowing that he would get arrested and sent to jail on arrival to the airport. We can only imagine this level of courage despite not having a government as hostile as erdogan's.

Why do people in this sub lean so much toward Neoliberal capitalism?

Genuinely asking. Sub popped up on my feed, so it got me curious, especially since i'm sure there are a lot of economists here as well.

Apathy and cowardice: the traits that define naya bharat

We have a cultural history of being one uniquely one of the most generous nations in the world. For example the Directive Principles of State Policy embedded welfare obligations into governance - free education, living wages, public health.

Yet whenever i open social media can't help but notice the sheer amounts of hate that is directed towards the working class. A post that talked about construction labour working in this heatwave for a mere minimum daily wage. Yet, the comments were so full of apathy and dismissive like "They only work for 8 hrs and get paid 600-800". Is it so bad if they do? Is 600 "too much" now for them because they are "labour class". They wouldn't be productive for more than 4-5 hrs day themselves but want everyone else worked to the bone for a mere 600.

Another thing i've noticed, they can't stop taking about how they don't pay taxes...which is not just incorrect but a dangerous narrative. "Oh they're eating up all our tax money". When in reality everybody pays indirect taxes and they infact pay a bigger share of tax relative to their income.

Have people lost all empathy? It feels like there's a campaign to completely malign the marginalized so people stop questioning the government. And people love hating and blaming and punching down, instead of having the courage to seek govt accountability. How will we ever survive with this apathy?

Why does nobody talk about the AIIMS internal quota?

Every time people talk about reservations, they keep maligning caste-based reservation. Even when 60% of the reserved population is competing for 50% of the seats. They keep saying "I know so many os these people who drive luxury cars" when in reality, hardly 0.1% of india even has that kind of wealth let alone reserved castes.

This is especially ironic when AIIMS have their internal quota for their UG students when their own institute is one biggest proponent of caste discrimination because "they stole seats belonging to merit". (see- https://www.edexlive.com/news/2020/apr/20/she-was-told-that-she-would-never-get-anywhere-because-shes-from-a-particular-caste-why-an-aiims-r-11441.html

https://thedeathofmeritinindia.wordpress.com/2011/05/21/who-killed-dr-balmukund-bharti-in-aiims/ )

And yet the custodians of "merit" never talk about their own internal quota. On what basis or parameter, does it make sense for ug students to have their own quota? It's a government funded institute, why do they have more stake in the seats?

In similar manner, why no outrage about NRI quota? These people take 15% of the total seats. They're mostly not even NRI(Who don't even pay taxes in india) but rich brats who pay their way in the system. And time and again have the lowest of lows cut-offs. Are they allowed to do so because they're rich so they should not be questioned?

Maybe the only crime is to be of backward caste or poor, because everybody else is just allowed to coast through and noone bats an eye.

Speculation

Someone said a sitting minister and an industrialist is involved in the recent leak(for there own kids), and that's why they immediately announced re-exam as well as scapegoated low level workers who were involved too. Anyone here has any insider info?
