Born and raised here and I come back once a year. Everytime I’m back it always seems like traffic on the belt line and man-o-war are awful. Whether out near Versailles road or at Hamburg. Everytime I’m outside of downtown, it always seems like I hit red light after red light.

It finally dawned on me that this seems self inflicted (by the grace that lights aren’t synchronized) when I was sitting over near where the parkette used to be sitting at a green light at a dead stop.

I was stopped because 30 feet infront of the green light was a red light. And 30 feet infront of that was a green light. Then they all changed at once. Well no fucking wonder traffic is so backed up. The lights are hurting themselves.

That was Friday and since then I’ve been comparing timing of lights versus the speed limits on the road and….its awful. Get to 45 mph on man-o-war and I I arrive just in time to watch the lights change when I’m no where near it.

TLDR: Lexington needs to hire traffic engineers for their infrastructure ASAP!

Fully remote tech worker, married with a young kid starting school soon. Currently in the St. Louis suburbs and looking to make a move in the next couple years. The Triangle keeps coming up and Holly Springs and Fuquay-Varina specifically seem like the sweet spot for schools, safety, and value. Seems like a great place to settle down when I finish my graduate degree.

Few honest questions for people who actually live there:

• Holly Springs vs Fuquay-Varina — what's the real day to day difference in feel?
• Where do you actually go when you want to wander without a destination?
• How bad are the summers actually getting? (It's ungodly hot in Missouri)
• Hobbies wise — is there a decent scene for gaming, live music, and general nerd culture?
• What do the relocation guides get wrong?
• What do you wish you'd known before moving?
• How walkable are the areas?
