FH3's Blizzard Mountain DLC really overachieved for it's time and price

Bought all DLCs of FH3 when it came out, but due to many things happening at the time I never played them thoroughly until 10 years later, and I am instantly amazed by how good Blizzard Mountain looks and feels.

The elevation of the map is much more varied than main game, and managed to eliminate the "flat" look of some places in Australia. Texture is hugely improved as well, with snow already having full 3D tire treads and with great detail. Physics is still hardcore, even with snow tires equipped you are still facing constant wheelspin, not to mention ice patches on the road. And finally the beautiful and brutal blizzard weather, causing a almost whiteout effect, which is never replicated in any other FH games to date.

Combined with the sharp and crystal clear visual, Blizzard Mountain is basically one of the best snow-themed racing game up to date, I can only think of Motorstrom Arctic Edge can be comparable in arcade games. I wish similar setting can be happened again in FH6 or later games, since top 3 places with heaviest snowfall in the world are all located in Japan.

This ad got me into buying all digital contents of Forza Motorsport 6 beofore delisting

For background information this is the last Forza that has former Road & Track magazine editor (The magazine started NFS franchise) Kim Wolfkill as head of business development, he went in and secured the rights to premire Ford GT. Forza used to know cars and racing game culture very well, it's Microsoft who does not want FM/FH to focus on these areas anymore, and they paid the price.

Continuing from my post yesterday, I took photos of my own protagonist from FH3-FH6 during driving

Here's my last post: https://www.reddit.com/r/BuiltFromTheGroundUp/comments/1u7ii7g/took_pictures_of_fh1_and_fh2s_default/

All snapped on my XSX console with best graphic mode available. For better reference I tried my best to keep the character face model that looks most alike with hairstyles that's as similar as possible. Turns out for this model FH5 is indeed the worst, terrible reflections and PBR effect, facial expression is almost scary, almost felt like soul has left his body. FH6 is actually getting a bit better, but still nowhere near as good as FH4, which makes me wonder what happened even if we got more and more character customization options in later games.

Last 4 discount boards I found in FH1, I swear they are hardest to find collectibles in the series ever

Back when FH1 was about to be delisted I bought every single DLC, but I didn't buy the Fast Travel pass (Yeah in FH1 you have to pay for that feature, theres's no way to unlock it in game) and Treasure Map. Since I think there's only 1 kind of collectible in the game and there's little to no wilderness that's drivable, I think I will find all of those discount boards quickly.

My gosh was I wrong, even when I ran through every single road and cleared the game 100% in 4 years ago I still got 4 boards left, and I literally went through every inch of the road. Until today I finally decided to do the tough thing by checking the map guide on the internet (If you need the same help check this link: https://www.reddit.com/r/forza/comments/161inj/heres_a_map_of_the_discount_signs_in_case_anybody/ ) and try to locate everything by my eyes.

Turns out these 4 remaining boards are either located in hidden backroads that's not shown on the map at all, or deep inside the building's car park beside the roads. And there's even one that's located behind the race event outpost! How can I know they are there? Anyway it's finally done, now for the even tougher task which is farming enough money to buy every single car in the game.

Took pictures of FH1 and FH2's default protagonists with my Series X (FH1's driver will wear helmet in formal Horizon races)

Turns out PG knows how to make good-looking protagonists, makes me wonder what happened from FH5 on.

Average encounter in fuel station while every car meet in the same lobby is empty

I mean maybe car meet can be better placed in the parking lots of drug stores and fuel stations? It's also much better to take photos.

Closest we ever get to a FH themed playmode by Polyphony

This mode just stuck in my head for so long after playing GT6 for the 1st time back in 10 years ago. The track is huge and fun and we got a lot of cars to overtake, even the whole race format itself is a nod to early arcade racers. I can't help but thinking Yamauchi himself actually wants to make an arcade racer, but just can't find enought time apart from GT titles.

EDGE Magazine's review of FH6

Overall it's an 8 out of 10, not bad but slightly lower than last 3 game's reviews (all 9). They seemed not happy with the game still being too expressive and overly optimistic about anything you do, also they are a bit unhappy about a much longer main plot progression that's designed to keep players coming back. Delivery jobs and Graphics are main criticizing points as well.

Was reading the map of FH3 and I realized an interesting trend

Credit goes to PJTierney on Forza Forum: https://forums.forza.net/t/horizon-festival-route-map-a-real-life-map-of-forza-horizon-3s-australia/71630 and DJKustoms on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/djkustoms/29238746503/in/photostream/lightbox/

In my past impression (10 years ago when I cleared the game), FH3 got a pretty huge map whose size is about the same as FH4, while it's true when I was replaying the game recently I was surprised by how little paved road compared to the sheer size of that map. Then I realized this game is actively encouraging you to go offroad by placing all collectibles much deeper into the wilds, I think that's why a lot of people remembered this game by being very "Adventure" styled compared to all later titles. Some XP boards are located in a deep tunnel at the edge of the map or at the center of a small island of a lake. It has that kind of proper depth for you to clear the whole map and is not seen in later titles again. Road is literally just about 50% of the whole game, traversing in wilds is another 50%. I hope this kind of design can come back in later DLCs of FH6.

Asian English version of PSP and PS2 version of Def Jam Fight for NY

Thought not much people here have seen this version, content wise it's the same as US copy and even have ESRB rating on cover, but this is region locked in NTSC-J consoles, this is the only English version published in Asian market, since Japan has its own Japanese version.

Some more screenshot taken in XSX's quality mode in daytime of Tokyo, personally I like this kind of rather clean and simple art style

PSM2 Magazine's review of Burnout Revenge and Burnout Legends

Both got high praise indeed, and Legends is actually considered the best racing game PSP can offer back then.

Personal screen cap on quality mode of XSX, ah the lush vegetation

I really thinkm it's the outdoor sections that really made FH6 shines.

Just cleared Spongebob Squarepants: The Movie, gosh it's tough...

Right before the trip to Planktopolis I was under illusion that this game is kid friendly. And then there are just one tough platforming after another, with long gap between checkpoints. On top of that the final boss battle is even tougher like it's close to being unfair, you have to avoid his super strict electric attack twice in a row to get a shot to fight back, not to mention there are enemies bombarding you from the sky, in the end it took me 3 hours to clear the final part of the game. I wonder if kids back then can take this kind of challenge and clear the game? Because for me it's definitely very advanced skill tests. Nevermind the graphics are good though.

TIL that the reason why Clancy Brown didn't voice in Spongebob: BFBB was because he was busy voicing Baron Praxis in Jak II

A little while ago I got myself a fresh new copy of PS2 version of Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom. The game is alright and has some nice ideas for a platformer, but instantly I realized the VA of Mr. Krabs is definitely not Clancy Brown, and the replacement actor wasn't even trying to sound like him, he just let it loose.

I was wondering why Clancy rejected this game project since it's still quite faithful to original series, then recently I saw it on IMDB stating he was busy doing voice for Jak II. Which is indeed a pity.

When THQ Nordic was trying to remake BFBB (Yeah even this game had a remake ahead of Jak games) they indeed wanted to invite Clancy back, but it seems like due to Clancy is a part of union they will have to re-record all the voices in that game, and some VA have already passed away back then. So in the end this game never got Clancy. Funny to think such kind of clash of schedule can happen even back then, at least in later new Spongebob platformer games Clancy is finally back as Mr.Krabs, including the new one that's about to release in this October.

The Moment when you realized that you chose the wrong sponsors package for UG2

Well, at least I tried to clear everything, maybe next time when I am feeling it to open another career file then I will try to seek for the right sponsors. As for now UG2 is also done for me, off to MW2005's challenge series then.

Back then it's still called as Project Velocity, and no matter which platform it's on Criterion is always chasing the best graphics and physical effects possible. Also you can already see Fiona Sperry here.

No modding, no enhancement filters, just the base game on PC is still holding up amazingly well. Overall still a rather easy game with adequate level of challenge, the only pity on PC is not having rumble support on controllers. I think I will play it again on PS2 in the future. Overall still a blast! And 206 WRC is a beast when fully upgraded.

Was going through my archives and was wondering if Rybakina can play in a rather defensive way that lasts a long and winning an important point, then I found this. She cartianly can play in a battle of attrition if she wanted, and it's a rather rare sight of her. She also had another 32 shot rally with Kasatkina in 2022 and ended up winning by doing a high quality drop shot.

Just wish we can remove engine covers of them like they did in E3 Demo. I got all DLCs purchased before it got taken down from PSN.
