Spotted in a slow-moving North Texas river. Longnose gar?

I’m new here and am still learning the local wildlife. Being a northern, I first thought it was a pike but I don’t think northern pike live in warm Texas rivers. It looked to be about 3-4 feet long and it was brownish. So, what is it? Thanks in advance.

Curious how well everyone’s ART work

Hey all. Just got diagnosed today. Feeling super blessed to have apparently caught it early as my viral load before starting ART is 23 copies/mL and my CD4 count is 924. I’ve been handling it pretty well but one intrusive thought struck me- what if even after the genotype testing there isn’t an effective ART for me? I realize that this is statistically unlikely, but it’s what scares me the most. I have a lot of reading to do but thought I’d start here by asking y’all if you’ve ever ran into this issue or know of anyone who has? I plan to take my medication religiously as soon as it arrives but I realize there is a chance it might not work as intended.

I would also like to hear how your pills have worked for y’all in general. What were the side effects, things you noticed, etc. I’m starting with Biktarvy but that could change once my further test results are in. Thank you all in advance.

Should I accept a lapse in coverage or …?

Hey all, I have a sort of unique situation. I just moved back to the states after living abroad for a decade. 6 months ago when I moved back I bought a non-owner policy with a 6 month contract with the idea of buying a car in Texas. Well, my circumstances changed and I never bought a car down here. I’ll be moving to Ohio in late August or early September where I will definitely need to buy a car. The problem is that my non-owner policy is expiring in early July and I can’t find a company that will do a non-owner policy for just like 2-3 months. If I continue with what I have now, I’ll have to potentially pay for 4 months of a non-owner policy which will become irrelevant because I will need an owner policy by then.

What is the best course of action here? Should I continue with my current policy for another 6 months with a potential to have to pay them out like 400/500 bucks? Should I accept a lapse in coverage for 2-3 months, or do y’all know of any monthly non-owner policies I could acquire? Someone recommended asking my family to add me on to their policy as a non owner, but I don’t really want to bother my family with that if possible. I might ask my current provider if I can change the policy to owner once I do buy. Does anyone know if that would be possible? It’s Direct Auto which seems sort of sketch to me; the only reason I signed up with them was bc I didn’t have the insurance history to get a policy at All State.

Any advice at all would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!

How to resign from my job due to my disrespectful boss

Hey all. I started a new job this year and my new boss is not a nice person.

After I locked in my answer to join their team, I quickly saw him make unprofessional and rude comments about people from the department I was transferring from. This was months out from my scheduled transfer and I remember thinking “Oh shit, I really hope my boss isn’t going to be a problem.”

Well, here we are. I was totally right about those red flags but getting this job meant achieving a long term goal and was also a nice promotion within my company. That’s all to say that I have really, reallyyyy been trying to make things work but my boss is rude, mean, and disrespectful towards me. He is like that to others too, but he is especially keen on digging into me because I generated push back at his behavior when I first started. I was utterly shocked at the way he spoke to me and naturally pushed back at being belittled, talked down to, and yelled at over honest mistakes (it’s only been 6 months). Since then, it’s like he has been punishing me for my initial pushback.

I eventually made the decision to just erase my soul at work and become a subservient vessel to finish my contract, nab the experience, and jump ship. My contract is non-binding but it’s still a commitment to me. That meant putting up with his dismissing me, laughing at my questions, doing long, exaggerated pauses and stares after I asked a question to imply it’s stupid, him straight up saying “that’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard” after I answered a question, etc… it really goes on and on. That was the plan until he completely lost it on me for sending the wrong information in an email one day. I was actually never trained to do something which was an important part of providing accurate information. Even then, I called him to explain the situation and to own up to my mistake excuse-free, and he lost his mind screaming at me on speaker phone in front of my coworker. He insinuated that I was innately stupid and that this was the true problem. He also pulled a line that he had used before for another mistake, which was to tell me that he’s never had an employee make said mistake before.

Even if that’s the case, there is absolutely no reason to demean someone over it. How does that fix the problem? It doesn’t, it’s just unprofessional and borderline abusive behavior. He has accused me of barely trying in another yelling rant despite me throwing 110% of myself at this job. I literally moved across the world for it. Those were the first straws, but him essentially calling me stupid was the last one. I’m in the final stages of securing a new job and I will be resigning with a several month notice out of courtesy for the other departments which will be affected.

I don’t know how I should approach the situation. He is aggressive, so on one hand it would be easier to say that the job itself is not a match for me, but on the other hand I don’t want to lie about it. Approaching HR is not really an option here because he’s been at my company forever and also our HR department is in a different country. It’s his lawless world out here and I’ve been forced to live in it. Also, stating the real reason will prevent him from trashing my name, or so I think, because he will have to provide the reason for my untimely exit to the other department heads. I will write a very vague letter of resignation but I know he will probe for the reason why and more details… what do I say then?

Your tips and guidance would be much appreciated! Thank you.
