What joke(s) do you tell about your disability?

I tell people that I use a cane in case I need to bust out a Fred Astair impersonation and that my neurological issues are brainfreestyling.

When my husband is being obnoxious, I (jokingly) tell him “My cane gives me an extra 37 inches of reach. Either stop being annoying or move 38 inches away from me.”

I am looking for novels about support groups for unique issues

I loved The Final Girls Support Group (a support group for survivors of slashers) and Assassins Anonymous (a support group for assassins trying to no longer kill). What are other books about support groups for unique issues?

People with “Do Not Resuscitate” orders, who in your life did you tell about your DNR?

I plan to have a DNR order before I have surgery. I will do all of the official legal paperwork for it and have told my next of kin (my husband) but I am wondering about if I should tell other people in my life about it. The surgery isn’t risky but even routine surgeries can result in people coding and I have no desire to roll the dice on whether bringing me back to life would make my already shitty body even worse.

I have always told people that I would never want to be in a vegetative state but people usually say that when they are talking about not wanting to be on life support, not in terms of “Don’t even try to bring me back.” When I told my husband about my wishes, he was heartbroken but understood.

I have told a couple of people in my life about it just because I needed to be able to talk about it but I don’t know if that’s something that I should or shouldn’t be telling people about. I don’t want to cause unnecessary distress but also want to be able to say “This is the reality I am living in.”

To those of you who have decided on a DNR, who did you tell and why?

Also, if you do not have a written medical directive, please get one. It doesn’t matter how many times you have told your loved ones what your wishes are, if it’s not written down it doesn’t count.

Virtual support groups

I would like to be able to find a support group for people with disabilities but am not able to do an in-person group.
For context, I have mobility issues and am bed-ridden due to a rare disorder but would be fine with a general disability support group where you can just talk about what is going on in your world with people who are also disabled.

I want to be able to actually talk to and see people but all of the support groups I have found are online forums. I am looking for a group that would take place over Zoom or some other video platform. Does anyone have suggestions of support groups for people with disabilities or ideas for how to find them?

How much of your collection is untried?

I have been doing a bunch of skittles to go through my untried polishes. I have now worn 75% of my collection. My goal is to have worn all of my polishes by the end of the year.

How much of your collection (either in percentage or in number) is untried?

What health and wellness “As seen on tv” products did you have and which ones did you want?

I am watching Matteo Lane watch 90’s and early 2000’s infomercials and it is a wild walk down memory lane. My sister and I used to stay up until 2 AM watching infomercials, mesmerized by all the products that promised to get us in shape without having to break a sweat and miraculous appliances that would make “healthy” foods that we would swear were “sinful” foods.
If we had had access to credit cards, our homes would have been overflow with “miracle” products.

The only ones I have owned were The Magic Bullet (hated it) and the Ab Roller (meh). I wanted a Shake Weight but never bought one as well as that ab machine that claimed it could electrocute you into having a six pack.

What health and wellness As Seen On TV products did you own and what did you desperately want?

Disabled laqueristas, what are your disability-friendly polish tips and techniques?

I got into painting my nails after becoming disabled two years ago. I have neurological issues that make it kind of a struggle but have found ways to make it easier. Here are some of mine:

*It is physically exhausting having to wipe off polish by rubbing polish-remover pads on my fingers and toes, so I use peel-off base on my fingers and plastic clips that hold the pad in place on my toes.

*Since I am bedridden and can’t sit at a desk or table to do my nails, I got a ring light that has an arm that can swivel over to my bed. It’s helpful to have an overhead source of light for painting.

*I have asked friends and family for help with painting my nails. It is a fun social event.

*I have to pay attention to bottle and cap shapes. There are certain brands that are too hard for me to hold (I’m looking at you, Smackers Disney nail polishes!) I do best with long caps that have some texture and bottles with corners. ILNP and Rogue Polish are both very accessible bottles. KBShimmer, I love you but I don’t have the hand-eye coordination for that short, smooth brush handle.

To my fellow lacqueristas with malfunctioning bodies, what are your tips? Also, are there any disabled content creators you would like to shout out?

How do your favorite colors make you feel?

I pick my nail polish colors based off of how I want them to make me feel.

Ariel by ILNP is for when I want to feel like I am Dorothy putting on the Ruby slippers

Disco Dust by Cupcake is for when I want to feel like I am an insanely wealthy drag queen whose mansion home decor style is best described as “tacky opulence.”

ILNP’s Bitten makes me feel like a vampire luring a man into her lair

Starlight by ILNP makes me feel like I am writing poetry while staring out the window at a grey Irish rainstorm

I Just Blue Into Town by Sassy Sauce makes me feel like I am on a roadtrip with my bestie, sticking my hand out the window to feel the breeze.

Get Your Knit Together by KBShimmer makes me feel like I am at Studio 64 but for mermaids. The mermaids are in full 70’s disco-wear. At this point in the post, I should mention that I am very stoned while writing this.

How about you?

Novels about elderly women being bad b*tches who are living their best lives

I loved the Vera Wong series as well as “Too Old for This.” I love humor and thrillers. I don’t want anything super sad.

Thank you in advance.

[Tool] Free Minnesota Mom pep talks for kiddos of any age who could use some cheering on or cheering up

I love getting to cheer people on as well as getting to impersonate my mom’s ridiculously thick Minnesotan accent.

Tell me what you need a pep talk for and I will do my darndest to give you a pep talk that will knock your socks off, honeybun!

PS: Thank you to everyone asking for pep talks and those who have asked for pep talks in the past. It has been so much fun and has meant so much to me to hear from people. When I told my mom that there are people who like hearing my impersonation of her she said “Oh my god! I’m a celebrity!” and has been beaming about it ever since.

I love telling my husband the plot twists of books without giving him any additional information. Without giving away any identifying details, tell me the plot twist of a book. Some of mine:

-The serial killer was the secret child of the original serial killer. He started doing copycat killings as a way to continue the family legacy

-The missing child was secretly given away by the husband who decided that kids would get in the way of cheating on his wives with women who looked and acted identical to them

-One of the three girls who went missing actually murdered two of the girls as revenge for them letting her sister die several years earlier. She takes on a new identity and lives a successful life.
