wasp spider (Argiope bruennichi)

Not my most beautiful photo today, but a special encounter for me nonetheless. This lady – the wasp spider (Argiope bruennichi) – was hanging and posing so beautifully at the edge of the leaf. What colors. Glad I came across her.

tachinid fly

A tiny visitor with a hidden mission. 🪰🌸

Perched among the delicate flowers of hemp-agrimony, this beautiful tachinid fly may look harmless — but it plays an important role in nature. Its larvae develop as parasites of other insects, helping to keep populations naturally in balance.

Sometimes, the smallest creatures have the biggest impact. 🌿✨

Great blood bee

🐝 Great Blood Bee – Sphecodes albilabris

A striking solitary bee with a deep red abdomen and dark, smoky wings. Unlike most bees, the Great Blood Bee is a cleptoparasite — it lays its eggs in the nests of other solitary bees and does not collect pollen for its own offspring.

A fascinating little specialist, captured in the moment while visiting this beautiful yellow flower. 🌼📸

Ant and Aphids

🐜🍯 A remarkable collaboration in nature.

What at first glance looks like an ant among a colony of aphids is actually a clever example of cooperation. The ant protects the aphids from natural enemies, such as ladybugs and lacewing larvae. In return, the aphids produce a sweet liquid: honeydew.

By gently tapping the aphids with her antennae, the ant stimulates them to release a drop of honeydew. This photo captures exactly that moment: the ant drinking the fresh honeydew. A fascinating example of how two completely different animal species help each other survive.

Sometimes you don't have to go far to discover the most beautiful stories from nature. 🌿📸
