I build my own listening web
I recently completed my IELTS exam and got a 7.0.
Now, I’m trying to learn Korean on my own. While preparing for IELTS, I listened to a lot of podcasts, news, and even radio channels to train my brain. I would listen while walking, cooking, or running, and it really helped me improve my passive listening skills.
Eventually, it also helped me get used to the British accent and understand spoken English more naturally.
Now that I’m learning Korean, I’ve realized that the resources aren’t nearly as vast as they are for English. There are still plenty of apps and websites, though.
Personally, I’ve used Memrise and Loecsen to learn basic daily phrases. But I wanted something different to improve my brain’s adaptation to Korean—something that I could simply listen to while travelling, walking, or doing other activities.
So, I decided to build my own website.
The idea is pretty simple: I can add my own Korean vocabulary and phrases, and the website randomly plays them with the correct Korean pronunciation along with their English meanings. After using it for a while, I can switch off the English meanings and focus only on listening.
I can also add new vocabulary and phrases with their meanings whenever I find something useful online.
Basically, I’m trying to create a kind of “Korean listening brain trainer” that I can use passively throughout the day.
I’m curious if anyone else learning Korean has tried something similar, or if there are any apps/websites that already offer this kind of experience.
