Ska on 45,ska dows
In some alternate world we'd have a weird al who, instead of doing polka medleys, would do ska medleys; it has nothing to do with it, but it occurred to me while I was listening to this.
Such a stupid idea, I'm surprised it doesn't exist.
Okay, what I'm about to say was more of a dream or something weird I imagined, but the idea is like, imagine a ska orchestra band. Okay, there's nothing weird about that. The thing is, they would literally play typical orchestral songs, you know, classical music and stuff, but with a ska twist. I've seen some bands out there do ska versions of classical songs, and I feel like putting an orchestra band to do it could be really interesting.
It seems he doesn't practice Santeria.(credits to drummer_nicky1)
It reminds me that I've been taking drum lessons recently and the teacher had me practice Santería and it sounded like this lol
What is the minimum number of people needed for a decent ska band?
Technically, with a PC you can do it all yourself, or even with a power trio you could do sublime-style ska, but I feel that the minimum for a live band would be a voice and guitar, a drum kit, a bass, a keyboard and two horns. You could also do two guitars and one horn, but I prefer two horns.
Bungalo vs elásticos, los elásticos
Does it even count as dub? I don't know, it's weird to see a Mexican surf rock band and have a song like this.
What's your favorite band that plays ska and cumbia? Whether they mix both genres or just play both.
República Fortuna would be the most mainstream ska band in my country, and I'd say they're good at combining that, and their drummer gives me lessons.
Periwinkle blues, gangster fun
Ska with lots of keyboards is the path to happiness
And by the way, the cover of this album makes me laugh so much, it's so weird haha
Let some anonymous skalcoholic come here and explain this
Random ska thing
This is just a random opinion or tidbit I overthink, but something that makes me laugh about early Spanish ska is that it often feels like they were trying to imitate the classic "pick it up!" sound used by English bands, but because they didn't understand or adapt the sound to Spanish, it sounded more like "piquiru," "chiquiru," or some other phonetically similar sound.
I don't know if it's the best example, but after about a minute or so you can hear a little attempt at picking it up.
What kind of collaboration would you like to see happen in ska someday, even if it's impossible?
I'd love to see any of the still-active third-wave bands play with the Skatalites; it would be interesting to see that connection between the first and third waves.
Que me quieras tu, los rabanes
His albums, from the second one to Money pa qué and Ecolecua, are really good.
The band with the worst downfall you've ever seen in ska?
Not exactly ska, but I feel like Los Pericos is kind of sad; it's not exactly bad, but after the change of vocalist, their music is very, I don't know, different.
Ska band that combines surf with ska?
This is more of a curious fact, but Mexico had a surf wave relatively close to the Mexican ska wave back then; artists from both genres often shared the stage.
Random question, but what about a ska band that plays covers of classical melodies? You know, Beethoven or something like that, orchestral music but in a ska style.
I don't know if it's the best, but this one makes me laugh a lot.
