How hard is it to make a vlsi profile externally after taking admission in communications or signal processing and machine learning at NIT Surathkal?

I've a gate score of 605 and would get vlsi in mid tier nits. I might get communication at nit surathkal and students from mid tier nits recommended to take it instead of taking vlsi at mid tier nits.

Hence, I had three questions -

  1. Are communication students eligible to sit for vlsi roles?

  2. Do communication students have good placements in communication roles?

  3. Is it possible to manage the academic pressure of mtech and create a vlsi profile externally?

What can I expect in written test of MTech RA and Mtech SS (EE Department)?

Recently the shortlists for both of these courses, MTech RA and Mtech SS were out and the written test for both of them is scheduled for 24th June.

IIT Bombay really surprised me with their written test as it included questions from Microcontrollers, PCB design, etc.

Hence, I wanted to ask what type of questions are asked in the written test, so as to prepare them well in the last 10 days.

Is this legit??

Programme - MTech (Online) in Microelectronics and VLSI

I came across this on instagram. I really want to pursue vlsi but am not getting any good IIT. Should I take admission somewhere and also pursue this online? Is the course good and also what about placements?

I'm not even getting NIT Surathkal, Trichy and Warangal. I might get Rourkela or Calicut VLSI or EDT. Apart from this I might get IIIT Allahabad.

If I get IIIT Bangalore or BITS Hyderabad then I'm satisfied and won't go after this thing. I'm guessing I would definitely get it, but wanted to ask about this course just for information purposes.

All exams are finally over

Today was the last exam (BITSHD) that I appeared for in order to get an admission for the mtech program, and I flunked it badly (test 1 + test 2 = 74 :/). The entire process has been tiring as fck. I got a decent GATE score (605 ece) but am yet to get any offers. I think I'll get IIIT Bangalore and I'm quite content with it.

I don't usually post on this sub (previously had posted a few doubts here and there). But, today I feel the burden to be off my shoulders for at least a month. I'm craving sleep, pursuing my hobbies, going on a trip with friends (last year hai to plan sabke bante hai, safal kuch hi logo ka hota hai T_T).

Lost a lot of moments with my best friends, gave up on almost everything that I liked just to get a chance at becoming something again. I hope that I have clenched it.

I still don't understand the point of this post. I just wanted to share my raw feelings after the exam was over. In the end, I don't regret anything a bit. This entire process was a good (different) experience.

Good night.

Regarding upcoming MTech RA test and interviews. Also regarding current projects and PIs.

I'll try to keep this as short as possible. I just wanted some information regarding the test/interviews.

  1. I applied to WEL for Institute RA. In the preference form we had to select how well versed (have an hands-on experience) are we with certain topics such as Microcontrollers, FPGA, PCB Design, etc. I chose I'm not at all comfortable with these as my college had this at a very basic level in their curriculum.
The pattern of the test is written test + skills test. Could someone help me what would they ask in skills test?

  2. I applied to Project RA positions as well and wanted some information about the Project Investigators. -
    a) Prof. Rajesh Zele
    b) Prof. Rahul Singh
    c) Prof. Laxmeesha Somappa
    d) Prof. Udayan Ganguly

  3. What are the problems that MTech RA students might go through during the 3 year degree?

I have got Bangalore interview on 12th and then Delhi on 14th. So I am planning to take a flight from Bangalore to Delhi. But then I have to return to Pune after Delhi and flights are too damn expensive. The buses take too long and the train has a BIG waiting list. Is someone facing similar problem? Can someone suggest alternate ways of planning travel (Like Mumbai, Nashik, etc. are well accessible from Pune. So can someone tell which cities are well accessible from Delhi as well as from Pune with a cheap travel)?

Same as above 👆.

Please comment below. I'm creating this post here because apparently every post regarding shortlists is related to cse or ai on main r/GATEtard sub.

I am 21M and appeared for GATE in 2026, got a decent score and applied for MTech Res. In the application form, PhD was getting selected by default along with MTech Research. Hence, I thought I would've to clarify in the interview that I'm not interested in PhD.

I recently received an email from IISc Bangalore regarding SoP and other details. In that mail they had clearly mentioned that they will be giving priority to candidates showing serious interest in PhD. I had previously thought that I have to clarify in the interview that I'm not interested in PhD currently, and would like to pursue only MTech Research. Now I'm having second thoughts about appearing for the interview. Can anyone please suggest something regarding this?
