Does anyone else have a terrible time when they have blood drawn?

It’s not the pain, but the entire process activates such a bad vaso vagal response that I feel like I’m going to pass out. I’m weak, and I usually end up with a headache for the rest of the day. (no, it’s not from fasting).

Healthy but stinky

I’ve had dogs my entire life. My current golden retriever is so stinky. No yeast/ear/skin/digestive/teeth/food issues. She also exudes more (coat) oil than my other dogs. Love her to pieces, but weekly baths are not feasible or good for the skin. She’s professionally groomed several times a year, and I’m always brushing her. Love her to pieces but… whew! Don’t want to just deodorize her with chemicals or masking fragrances. Any ideas?

Not buying from companies that require minimum orders

I am tired of product companies putting the squeeze on estheticians to have to meet a minimum buy-in purchase. Whether it’s an initial requirement or annual purchases to “keep the account active”. Sometimes, we don’t want $1500 of your stuff expiring on our shelves we don’t need. Sometimes, a lot of your products are disappointing in performance. Sometimes, they’re overpriced and you’ve got a stranglehold on us - as we hope and pray we sell them. Sometimes, we only like one or two things in your line. Making us buy 12, to get one free is a joke. Offering free shipping on a bizillion dollar order is a joke. A flat shipping fee of $18.99 sucks when I have to only buy a single necessary product for a client. We smaller practices probably do more to advocate and educate (read: sell) clients on your products than the fast-paced, high-pressure box-spas/waxing centers. So many times we read here how pressured estheticians are pushed to sell and coerced so they can make a meager commission. Tired of it.

Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name…

Sometimes you wanna go
Where everybody knows your name
And they're always glad you came
You wanna be where you can see (ah-ah)
Our troubles are all the same (ah-ah)
You wanna be where everybody knows your name

It’s so sad about the USC changes. We were there so many days every week. Spent a LOT on food. Most all the regulars were known by name, as well as the staff. What a shame! Panera corporate, YOU ARE GREEDY!

Increased afib on Tirosint

I saw there was an increased risk of Afib on the Tirosint website from Tirosint. Anyone see that? My endo said NP can cause it as well and is not recommended for ‘older’ people (?!).

Shrimp?

Back in the days when I could eat shrimp without an EpiPen, that was great. But when you’ve got a lot of young people and big staff turnover making these salads in the kitchen… What happens when there’s cross contamination? Granted not everybody’s allergic, but some people are so highly allergic that if it just touches their food, they get severe anaphylaxis… your thoughts?

Didn’t change the sheets

His client left the room. I could see the used sheets on the bed rumpled. Acupuncturist walked in the tx room, closed the door, and literally came out 30-40 seconds later to get me. Bed completely made…, fitted sheet, top sheet folder over the blanket. (Soiled sheets are kept under the bed, and are visible.) The dirty sheets in the basket were not the color of the sheets that were previously on the bed rumpled up. On the bed were the same color as what the previous patient laid on. I’ve no doubt! And there was no closet or storage in there for clean sheets. None were brought out or brought in. Everything was in full view of me as his patient left, and I was brought into the room. I’m grossed out. Yes, I was totally undressed. Been going there for 6 months.

Treatment is a continuous process, not total elimination

Please understand that treatment of melasma is not total elimination or eradication. It’s more suppression. The melanocytes can wax and wane, depending on multiple conditions. And those conditions or variables, are subtly different from person to person.

Clothing buyers: Please stop with all the polyester everything, and multiple iterations of the same thing!

Does any thought go into the buying for clothes at Costco? Everything is polyester! And do we need 3 iterations/brands of ladies teeshirts, jeans, activewear? In the rare occasion there were linen blouses, 100% Pima cotton tees, 100% cotton ladies lounge pants, the angels 👼 were rejoicing! Please, one can only use so many knit leggings, workout gear, grandma polyester‘blouses’. And for Heaven’s sake, no more of those ankle/short length pants. I’m 5’4” and they look like the flood pants of the ‘70’s.

Asterisks * on price tags - price change or is it being discontinued?

I’m making the assumption that the product is either discontinued, or it’s a significant price change. Can anyone explain this to me please?

Last warning…

We’ve asked and asked. Practitioners are getting upset because of everyone answering non-Aesthetician questions, wasting time and slowing the feed. Last warning. You answer one of these and you will be banned.

Filters

I’m still washing and reusing my original filter. Should it be replaced? Where do I get them? And can thin carbon foam sheets be cut to size and used?

HQ OVERUSE

Hydroquinone can be very effective for melasma and hyperpigmentation, but chronic overuse can paradoxically CAUSE discoloration and melanocyte dysfunction over time.

Hydroquinone works by suppressing tyrosinase and reducing melanin production, but prolonged continuous use may also create oxidative stress, low-grade inflammation, barrier disruption, and melanocyte instability. In some cases, this leads to rebound hyperpigmentation or even exogenous ochronosis — a difficult-to-treat blue-gray or muddy discoloration associated with long-term use.

A major problem is that many people mistake worsening discoloration for “more pigment,” then apply even more hydroquinone, creating a vicious cycle.

Modern pigment management is moving away from endless melanocyte suppression and more toward melanocyte stabilization:

strict UV + visible light protection

iron oxide mineral sunscreen

barrier repair

inflammation reduction

cycling hydroquinone instead of indefinite use

alternatives like tranexamic acid, azelaic acid, cysteamine, niacinamide, antioxidants, etc.

Pigment disorders are rarely just “extra pigment.” They are often inflammatory and regulatory disorders involving oxidative stress, light exposure, heat, hormones, and barrier dysfunction
