Book like Harry Potter

I like the Harry Potter series but don’t like supporting the author (for obvious reasons) and also the books just aren’t scratching a certain itch for me.
What I’m looking for is something similar to the Harry Potter books. Can be a series or a standalone, any age range is fine. My favorite parts of the series are
* the wonder that the world building inspires
* the characters
Obviously I’d prefer something in the fantasy genre, but not something too dark like Game of Thrones. Thanks for your help.

Y’all wanna start a bookclub?

I was thinking of starting a book club! I thought it’d be fun to start a book club with 3-6 people, we can choose a book to read each month (or whatever time frame we want we can iron that stuff out if/when people want to join up) and then we can meet over zoom or something to talk about it. If you’re interested let me know. I like to read

- What I classify as old white man horror fiction (Stephen King, Joe Hill, Clive Barker)

- Science fiction (Isaac Asimov, Andy Weird and looking to get into Martha Wells, little iffy on Frank Herbert but I’m still reading the Dune series for some reason)

- Fantasy and occasional young adult (Rick Riordan, Brandon Sanderson, RF Kaung, and looking to get into Victoria Aveyard)

- other writers include CG Drews and Danya Kakafka

Looking for pal to play with

Looking for a pal to play duos or even teams with. I’m 23M in EST, I play on Switch and typically play late, 10pm-4am. (Edit - I typically play zero build) I’ve been struggling to find friends who play on Switch. I can’t play on PC atm as I don’t have one that can run fortnite. I’m saving for a PC and will have one soon but it sucks that I don’t have anyone to play with in the meantime. Any skill level is fine, I don’t really care about winning, I just like the game. Please don’t respond if

- You’re not cool with the LGBTQ or BLM communities

- You’re not cool with swearing (I talk like a sailor sometimes though I don’t mean to)

Hit me up if you’re interested!

[23/M] looking for pal to email with

I don’t get a lot of emails and it depresses me :( I’m looking for a guy, gal, or nonbinary pal to trade emails with. If you are
- 21+
- cool with swearing
- LGBTQ+, BLM friendly
- hate the American president as much as I do
- a big reader
- like alternative and rock music
- open minded
Feel free to DM me for my email! I’m trying to find new friends and since it’s hard to meet people in real life I’m trying the online friend route first. Some other things about me (because the post needs 500 words for some reason 🙄) I work at a thrift store, I love reading and writing, and I’m currently in school trying to get my psychology degree. Message me if you’re interested.

Looking for authors for charity project

Hi! I’m Caleb and I’m working on a new anti-a*rtificial int*lligence charity project. The goal is to edit and publish a short story anthology and donate the proceeds to an anti-a*rtificial int*lligence organization you read about here.

Here are the kinds of stories I’m looking for.
- 5,000-15,000 words.
- sci-fi story with robotics/a*rtificial int*lligence as a main plot point.
- mature stories are fine but no smut and no s*xual ass*ult.
- no stories written by a*rtificial int*lligence (I will be checking).

Rewards
Since this is for charity I unfortunately can’t offer much in terms of payment but if your story is selected you will receive
- one (1) contributor’s copy upon publication
- one (1) 10 dollar gift card to Barnes and Noble (or a book store of your choice 😀)
- credit for your story (of course)

I am only seeking the right to edit, publish, and profit from your work (and then donate those profits), you will still be able to publish the story elsewhere.

Let me know if you’re interested! Send your inquiries or submissions to calebclarkauthor@gmail.com.

Note for mods: I got permission to post this so please don’t delete it lol

Edit: censored a*rtificial int*elligence because it wouldn’t let me post it otherwise. If you’re concerned about potential scam feel free to check out my account where you can see I’ve had many real conversations with people and also feel free to message me. I’ll be happy to answer any questions you have.

Looking for writers to assist in charity project

Hey guys! My name is Caleb Clark and I really hate generative artificial intelligence, so I’ve decided to start a project to do something about it. I am currently putting together a sci-fi anthology novel composed of various stories by different writers. Once this anthology is published, I will be marketing it myself and 100% of the proceeds will be going to Stop AI, an organization that "works to empower a broad coalition of everyday people to engage in non-violent resistance against those who wield technology to distract, deceive, divide, control, exploit and eliminate us.”

Since this is for charity, I unfortunately cannot pay you for your submission, but I will send you a copy of the anthology once it’s published (and of course you will be credited for your work).

Stories I’m looking for

- 5,000-10,000 words.

- Must have artificial intelligence/robotics as a main plot point (think of Isaac Asimov type stories).

- Mature content is fine, but no s*xual ass*ult and no smut.

If this sounds interesting to you let me know! If you have a story you’d like to submit or any questions for me, email calebclarkauthor@gmail.com. Please send your submissions in EPUB or PDF format.

Radiogarden/EST/English/23M

Hello! Trying to make some friends to game with. The only co-op games I really have are stardew valley, marvel rivals (which I’m not very good at), warframe, and fallout 76. I’ve also been wanting to get into phasmophobia and repo. I’m down for a ton of multiplayer games though. I also like among us though I haven’t played in a while. I also play Minecraft on PC and Fortnite on Switch. I usually play late 10pm-4am but my schedule is pretty open at the moment since I only have a part time job. Let me know if you’re interested.

I have a crazy idea

So I really hate the way generative AI has invaded our space. Laws and regulations aren’t moving fast enough to keep up with the technology and I get really depressed by the idea that there isn’t anything I can do about it.

Today I was on Wikihow, trying to see tips on how to help people. I’m not trying to virtue signal or anything, I’ve just been feeling a bit down and I figured doing something that has meaning might make me feel a bit better. Anyways, one of the tips was to use your skills or hobbies for a good cause. I was trying to think of what ways I could write for a good cause and then I got a crazy idea.

What if I published an anthology, a novel with sci-fi/robotics as the main theme, and myself and some other writers contribute the stories? Then I can edit it, hire an editor and even a copy editor from my own pocket, then market it and self-publish it. Then I can put every cent the book makes into a good cause, like an anti-AI fundraiser or something?

Is this a good idea? If so, would any of you be interested in writing a short story for something like this? Please let me know, but off the top of my dome this seems like a good idea. There might be some logistical issues that I haven’t thought of yet. For one thing, I’m a college student so I might not be able to afford a professional editor, but perhaps that’s something I can do myself, maybe even with the assistance of other writers who would want to volunteer their time. I’m in no way suggesting I’m as good as a professional, but I have been editing my own work for over a decade at this point, so I’m not a complete novice and there’s a lot I could learn about it through books and even connecting with other writers.

I know this might seem like I’m trying to publish something under my name and use the hard work of other writers to do it, but I just think this could be a really cool way to bring some of us together and garner some attention towards this whole AI issue. What do you guys think?

Young writer (23M) looking for writing pals

Hey guys! I love writing stories, primarily dark, emotional, character driven ones, and I’m on the hunt for new friends to talk about writing with. I don’t have a lot of people in my life who enjoy writing so sometimes it’s hard for them to relate to me on that subject.

My favorite authors are Joe Hill, Danya Kukafka, Rick Riordan, Brandon Sanderson, Isaac Asimov, CG Drews, and Stephen King. I’ve also been getting into RF Kaung and Emily Henry. Let me know if you’re interested!

PS - not looking for anything romantic, so please don’t ask lmao
