Finally got myself a "which is better" conundrum

I'm doing lightning damage, and with the left staff equipped I have 97.4% crit chance, obviously with the right that's 100%. The tooltip damage is slightly higher with the left, but that doesn't take into account the crit damage multi...

I'm leaning towards the extra 276 base damage (a 6% increase) not being worth the loss of the two multis, even with a large chunk of Willpower added as well.

EDIT: Thanks for the input everyone. I'm gonna wait till I can get my aspect maxed, and find crit chance on the gloves I want to use. Then I'll transmute both and see where things stand. At least if the transmute kills one the other will be a good backup.

Shaman of the Storm (a lightning Companion build)

Well I've made it into Torment 10 so I feel like it's time to share what I've been working on: a human form Companion build with a focus on Lightning damage.

Storm's Companion lost the massive boost to Pack Leader in LoH, so it takes a bit more investment into LHC to feel good. But that also means a primary damage source with 100% LHC and several supporting skills that can frequently lucky hit too*. Even Earthen Bulwark can lucky hit!

I've leveraged that high LHC investment to include the new Frostburn and Azurewrath unique effects, giving you a 50% on lucky hit to freeze enemies for 1s and do extra damage to them during that time, which Azurewrath (on a charm) then explodes out double or more to surrounding enemies when the freeze ends. Stuff is frozen and exploding all the time!

Due to the werewolf skill variant, this build can do a fair amount of passive damage just running through an area, as the werewolf companions will use their powerful AoE storm howl ability to pounce on enemies as you run around. The active companion skills can also be cast while moving, putting down raven storms in front of you, and calling the werewolves onto priority targets (though they don't always listen very well) all without breaking stride.

Going to the Mythic variant, I plan to swap out the Azurewrath charm to get both the 5 set Nafain's bonus on top of the 3 set bonus from the Storm Shepherd. Dropping Azurewrath makes Frostburn less appealing so swap that for the massive anti-oneshot boost of Endurant Faith gloves. I cannot undersell how strong turning a hit that would have killed you into a 4 second dot of 60% of that damage is.

I'm really enjoying this season and I hope this inspires others to branch out and have fun doing their own thing too.

* At 100% bonus to LHC you're at:

  • 100% on wolves
  • 90% on ravens
  • 100% on Cataclysm
  • 30% on Lightning Storm
  • 34% on Hurricane
  • 60% on Earthen Bulwark's tectonic plates that it spawns around you
