Watching the show for the first time. You earned those wings Twilight.

I know there was a lot of controversy when it first premiered and I definitely understand why. Twilight becoming an Alicorn is a game changer. Watching the episode for myself and seeing the buildup I can honestly say….

Twilight Sparkle, you earned those wings.

She deserved to be a princess after the hard work she put in and the struggles she overcame getting out of her comfort zone, changing her way of thinking.

I don’t agree with it being a jump the shark moment. The show was building up to this. Throughout season 2 and 3 they dropped so many hints with Celestia preparing her for ‘the next step’. Something big was going to happen.

The only thing I would’ve done differently was have the transformation in a later season. Maybe the halfway point or near the end of the show. Twilight having this major life changing moment in season 3 of a 9 season show feels too early. Like if Aragorn was crowned King in Fellowship of the Ring. It would’ve hit harder if she earned her Alicorn status much later on in the show. Idk if they were planning on having so many seasons so maybe they had to put it in quickly in case the show got cancelled.

Angry Pegasus flipping somepony off

Yes I know it’s supposed to be waving their fists BUT, when you know equine anatomy, you know a horse’s hoof is basically their middle finger. So she’s giving someone the finger. 😬

First impression as a first time watcher

I just finished season 1 and these are my thoughts of the show so far

  1. It’s so colorful and is such a delight to look at but at the same time it’s not over saturated or overstimulating like you’d think when the name My Little Pony comes to mind. It makes me miss traditional animation.
  2. I love that the background characters are individuals. There’s barely any copy and paste. Each background character is an individual pony with their own design. I love that attention to detail I already have a few favorites (Derpy, The Doctor Whooves, the unicorn in the Gala episode with the constellation cutie mark that I’ve named Orion)
  3. The Mane Six are very well developed characters with their own personalities and flaws. It would have been very easy for the writers to make their only personality traits the Elements they represent, especially with the intended audience being young children. But they made them 3 dimensional characters. I think that’s one of the reasons why the show is so popular with adults.
  4. The songs SLAP! Seriously! Winter Wrap Up, At the Gala, Art of the Dress. It reminds me so much of Steven Universe, my all time comfort show. At the Gala is straight outta a Disney movie. Did Alan Menken write these songs? Honest question.
  5. Ponies are racist. Ponies are prejudiced. And some ponies are outright jerks! Not to the extreme level humans are but it’s a fresh breath to see that this world and its people aren’t all rainbows and unicorns (literally!!) There are problems the characters (and its intended demographic) face in real life. Even the mane six themselves have their own prejudices they must overcome.
  6. Where’s Luna? So far she hasn’t appeared outside the first two episodes which I can kinda understand. She’s probably not comfortable at this point being among her people yet. Still strange she doesn’t get a mention to why she wouldn’t show up, even at the Gala of all things. “Oh my sister isn’t ready to see everyone yet.” Still wouldn’t the Gala be the BEST time for Celestial to introduce her sister and say she is reformed? Maybe I’m overthinking it.
  7. Discord would be bffs with Bill Cipher. He’s basically this show’s version of Bill. Favorite villain so far.
  8. Spike she’s not into you like that.
  9. I like the Cutie Mark Crusaders but I feel their episodes are…..repetitive. They want to get their cutie marks, their plan to get them doesn’t work out but they learn a valuable lesson. Rinse lather and repeat. I ended up skipping a few episodes.
  10. Pinkie Pie is a chaos god in mortal form and I will not elaborate.

All in all it’s a cute little series and a fun show. Not at the level of Avatar, Owl House, or Steven Universe (yet) but still binge worthy and a good way to end a busy day.

Hoping next year they will release an Epona model for the Legend of Zelda movie.

If the movie has Epona, of course, but it should!

Over a Barrel:Well THAT didn’t age well!

I don’t even think it aged well when it premiered. Seriously who greenlit that?

The lesson is a good lesson, finding compromise where both sides benefit, but when it’s applied in a story that’s a blatant allegory about the colonization and displacement of Native Americans, it leaves serious unfortunate implications.

The fact that the indigenous characters are represented as buffalo, the same species the white settlers nearly hunted to extinction in order to subjugate the indigenous people , makes things even worse in my opinion.

So far, it’s the only episode that’s left a bad taste in my mouth.

What are your thoughts?

Watching Friendship is Magic for the first time to see what the hype is about.

I was a Junior in high school when the show first came out and at an age where I didn’t want to watch a ‘kid’s show’ even when a lot of adults did. I stayed clear of it during its original run because crazy the fandom was in its day.

Now that time has passed I’m finally giving it a watch! I want to see what the hype is about and how a fun show about magic, ponies, and the power of friendship got such a cult following to all fans alike!

So far I’m loving the character dynamics and how each one is unique. Applejack is my favorite right now.

Anything I should know about the series as a new adult viewer?

Also. Pinkie Pie has serious Tom Bombadil energy. She would definitely be friends with him, Goldberry and his own pony Fatty Lumpkin

Any tips on riding when it’s THAT time of the month?

I’m supposed to start therapeutic riding soon and my first lesson is when I’m supposed to get it .
I’m planning on toughing it out and take Aleve in the morning and wearing period boxers.

Any tips to make the experience (and future ones) good as a regular day?

Just started Metroid Prime 4 and I have no idea what everyone was complaining about

I’ve wanted to play this game for a while and was waiting for it to go on sale. Finally got it during Amazon Prime Dayand I gotta say, so far it’s amazing.

It feels like a Metroid Prime game. It’s got everything what makes the other games memorable (exploration, alien worlds, mysterious lore, scanning the absolute hell outta everything) while adding new features to make it unique (the physic powers and the motorcycle, the desert hub)

And my good friend Mackenzie? Overhated. Yeah I see why some people might not like him, but to me he’s not that annoying. Is he chatty and excitable ? Yes, but who wouldn’t be if they were stranded on another planet with Samus Aran? And he’s not constantly talking and holding your hand. He’s more like the past guides from other Metroid games who guides you from afar and then occasionally chimes in to give you info or nudge you on the right path.

All in all. I’m glad I finally get the chance to play this game and make my own judgements about it. So far, it lives up to the hype.

Mineru: A Missed Opportunity

Mineru is the most interesting of the Sages and my favorite ToTK character, but I gotta say Nintendo really skimped out on her potential as an ally we get to know and connect with.

With the other sages we knew them from the previous game, and in ToTK see them grow both with their character development and their powers.

But we don't get to learn about Mineru other than the Dragon Tears flashback and once she becomes part of the group, she's just.....there. She doesn't talk or interact with Link after that (I've not faced off against Ganondorf yet..please don't flame me if I'm wrong). We don't hear her thoughts or emotions about her past. Her grief about losing her brother or if she feels guilty about Zelda's fate (Mineru told her about Draconification). It's as if they said "Here's your surprise party member, carry on."

The fact that her spirit rested inside the Purah Pad up until the Fifth Sage quest felt even more like a missed opportunity. We could have had her interacting and guiding Link from within the Pad in the role of a traditional Zelda partner like Navi or Fi. We wouldn't know it was her because we wouldn't hear her voice , or only see her words as text on its screen. As time progressed she'd show more emotion or say things abnormal for an artificial intelligence where you'd begin thinking 'okay, there's a person in there'. Then you connect the dots with the flashbacks and that twist hits better.

Mineru, you're so cool, I just wish you got more time to shine.

Does anyone else feel this way?

A horse is a horse as long as it has bones of course.

I love how some people are so chill about Link riding a skeleton horse and others freak out.

Rauru and Sonia’s child headcanon

The biggest question to me is who was the child of the first king and queen of Hyrule. They had to have had children at some point if Zelda is their direct descendant. But they are never mentioned and never appear.

I have a headcanon that Rauru and Sonia had a son who travels Hyrule in disguise to better understand its people. He knows that one day he will succeed the throne and he wants to get to know his subjects while traveling as a commoner, completely in disguise. Rauru does not approve of this, exactly like King Rhoam did with his own child thousands of years later.

The prince is busy traveling when Zelda comes into the picture and during the Imprisoning War he’s either fighting offscreen or he went into hiding.

What do you think of my fun little headcanon?

The power of horses and equine therapy

I was a horse girl as a child. Looking back it was a textbook example of a hyperfixation and special interest. It died down when I got older but I always felt it was a sleeper agent waiting to reactivate.

And it did. I began equine therapy this year and it has truly changed my life and improved my mental health. Being around horses and learning about them is healing my inner child. The child who loved horses with a burning passion and was mocked by her peers and told to stop talking about them. The child who played and brushed her toy horses’ manes and tails who now gets to brush the real deal.

Horses are no doubt the most calming animal I’ve ever encountered. Being in their presence is just calming and they bring you to their level. They don’t judge you, you’re kind to them and they give that back. They make you focus on the present. They’re the best.

If you’re doing equine therapy or have horses tell me your stories. Do horses have the same impact on you? I’d love to hear about it.

[Movie] The Legend of Zelda movie has the potential to show something that the games can't: The Gerudo War and the persecution of the Gerudo

It is a popular fan theory with extremely dark implications, but in a movie medium, especially in this day in age, it could be pulled off well if written right. It would give Ganondorf a reason to hate the Hylians and want the Triforce to avenge his people......only for his greedy corrupted heart to darken the land. Zelda could feel guilt that her family caused such strife, and strive to make amends for the actions of her bloodline, breaking the cycle. What do you think? Is it too dark for even a movie?
