I’ve been doing more maintenance on my own lately and actually started enjoying it, it saves money and helps you understand the car better, but sometimes it’s still easier to let a shop deal with the more annoying jobs.
I’ve also been looking around for good places to buy parts and consumables. After comparing a few options, I’ve mostly stuck with Autodoc since they usually have decent prices and most of what I need in one place. How do you guys handle maintenance? Do you do everything yourself, just basic stuff, or mostly use workshops? And where do you normally get your parts from?
Lately I’ve started doing more maintenance on my bike myself, and honestly it’s kind of addictive. On one hand, you save money and learn your machine better, but on the other hand sometimes it’s just easier to avoid the headache and let a mechanic handle it.
At the same time, I’ve also been trying to figure out where to buy decent parts and consumables. I checked different sites and compared prices and availability. So far I’ve mostly been ordering from Autodoc simply because I could usually find what I needed there without too much hassle.
Curious how you guys handle it:
Do you do everything yourself, only basic maintenance, or mostly rely on workshops? And where do you usually buy your parts?
I’m looking for a few parts for my Mazda3 and noticed that Autodoc has pretty good prices. Before ordering, I wanted to ask if anyone here has experience buying from them. How was the delivery time, packaging, and parts quality overall?
Would you recommend them for Mazda parts?
For me, finding parts for an old car is always a headache. Recently I helped a friend with his Audi A6 C5 1999 we needed to replace the climate control unit. It would seem like not the most complicated part… but finding it turned out to be much harder than we expected.
Maybe I am just getting behind the times, but I no longer really understand how all these modern auto parts stores work. Everything looks too complicated, and often it turns out that the needed part is not in stock. Local stores did not have it either: they could order the original part, but it was expensive and the delivery time would be long. I usually try to fix everything myself, I do not want to pay almost the same amount for labor as the part itself costs. It often seems like the repair is not difficult, but there are always doubts: what if it turns out to be more complicated? What if I break something and make it worse?
In the end, we started searching online and found Autodoc. The selection there was bigger, the prices more reasonable, and there are not only original parts but also alternatives. Of course, there are still worries about whether the part will fit, but at least there are options.
How do you usually find parts for older cars? Do you trust local stores or do you more often order online?
