Just picked up this beauty for 3k€. 1999mod with 66k km on the clock.
I fell instantly in love with it compared to my 2025 Voge ds625x.
Driving this on all the time now, just using the voge as a donkey, aka camping trips.
So, my question, how do you treat your VFR? Daily driver, beater or as something you want to keep for a long time?
For me, this one hit me hard with 90s nostalgia and a want to give it lot of care.
Breaks are a bit spongy so this winter it'll get new pads and maybe braided hoses.
What a great bike it is!
This is my 09. I picked it up about two months ago and has just over 5000 miles.
I did my first Europe trip on a motorcycle.
17 days through France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia and Croatia, and on the way back I came through Slovenia, northern Italy and France. Around 3200 miles in total.
First, I want to thank everyone who gave me suggestions in my last post. It made the trip so much better.
And you were all right about wild camping. It was not a good idea. European campsites are so much better than what we have in the UK.
This was my first international trip on a motorcycle, and damn, what an experience. I met so many people and made friends. It changed my perspective on how I look at life. I just turned 27 and this trip was kind of a birthday gift to myself. I'm from India, came here 5 years ago, and a lot of what I saw in Europe was a first for me. The culture, the people, the landscape. Wow.
Also, this was the smoothest border crossing of my life haha. They didn't even ask me to remove my helmet at the border control on either side.
I did so many mountain passes in Switzerland, Italy, Austria and Slovenia. The best was the D8 coastal road in Croatia. When I crossed from Slovenia into Croatia I had to reach Zadar, around 245 km away. Fast twisties for 3 hours, what a delight. I had two motorcycles in front of me and we rode it together the whole way. All of us stopped after 200 km with big smiles on our faces, giving each other high fives and fist bumps. It was amazing to see the same level of excitement on every face. I had never met these people before, and in that moment we had this bond. I was so happy.
I also got pretty emotional during that long stretch. In my head I was going through all the memories from my childhood and teenage years, back when I wished for a day like this. Damn, it took me 27 years to get here. Not in my wildest dreams did I imagine being able to do what I was doing. What an experience.
I also used Bunk a Biker in France and made an amazing friend. Really good experience, we talked for hours and had dinner together. I recommend everyone try Bunk a Biker.
The weather was perfect. It only rained for about 20 minutes the entire trip, while I was in Austria.
It took me 5 days to reach Croatia and 4 days to come back. It was definitely heavy doing so many km in a day. Next time I'll take it easier.
The VFR was absolutely amazing throughout. Funny thing, the day I got back from this trip was exactly one year since I bought it, same date. I've done 19,274 miles on the VFR now and I'm absolutely loving it. And then the morning after I got back, commuting to work, the radiator fan died. It's now sitting in the garage waiting for the part haha. What perfect timing.
I don't hate the OEM rear wheel, but I would like a different one. I can't even find one of the 8 spoke ones and if I could I probably couldnt afford it. I saw that a CB1000R wheel will fit but that wheel is also kinda ugly. Is there a list somewhere of all the wheels that would fit? Or does someone have any knowledge on where to source an 8 spoke? thanks
So, restoring a 1992, that hasn’t been on the road since 20018, have rebuilt carbs and front brakes. Just fitted new battery and an auxiliary fuel cell, and it started! Turned it off, pressed the button again and she fired straight up. Needs carbs balancing, but they’re not wildly out as is.
Just the fairings to tackle, new tyres, full service etc etc etc
Replaced fuel pump, fuel filter, time tensioners, checked voltage, pair valve is deleted, snorkel deleted, new air filter and still can't find whats causing this. Stalled at stoplight and keeps bogging.
My 6th gen 800vtec is a thirsty lad. I can do around 180km with one tank of gas, am i the only one with this issue? I do ride a little bit more sporty but it's not like im constantly pinning the throttle. how much do you guys get out of a full tank?
I'm also a bit behind on maintainance with my spark plugs and air filter. I hope that that'll make a difference.
Is this pretty normal for an old VFR? I'm getting conflicting opinions.
I know these things run hot, I've floated between 200-225 when riding previously, but now that summer is properly here (living in Texas in the USA) its getting hot hot. Running temps have been 220-235 if im not cruising at 75mph on the highway.
I'm planning on doing a coolant flush in the coming days once I'm off work, anything else to do to help with the cooling system? I've also heard of adding a fan switch to kick them on early, but I've got no clue where to start with that.
Bought the bike a month ago, have put 1800 miles on it with no issues, did a coolant flush and clutch fluid flush today and the day before, have had the side fairings off for 2 days now and have power washed the bike twice, didn't notice anything funny yesterday but today it started to have fluctuations on the temp gage right as I started it up, went from -- to 107, 98,160,140,80,170 ect. Was tweaking out. Seemed to stop fluctuating on the temp gage after about 10 minutes of riding but my boat meter that has a on off button turned itself on and off randomly while displaying voltage from 12 to 14 with random spikes from 12-14 to 40-80 volts. The wiring and connections still have a bit water sitting on them. Could thst be the issue or did I fry my shit?
Done a load of work to the 92 VFR
Brakes
Tyres
New head bearings
Paintwork
Starter relay was burned out. Removed all extraneous electrical tomfoolery and found a s/h relay in a breakers yard. Love to hear her song again❤️❤️
Anyone know what this connection could be? Definitely some odd things going on with the wring on this bike. On the left side of the bike right above the water pump
We had us a little unplanned adventure today. The day started with rain but the ride was beautiful. What we didn't know was Google maps put us on a gravel mountain road from Balfour to Trout Lake. 90 km of wet clay mountain road later we made it safely to the ferry. Breathtaking scenery with waterfalls and rivers. Lots of wildlife too. We took it slow and made it through. Wonderful adventure! Tomorrow my buddy on the Chieftain heads west and I start my way east to Saskatoon.
