I wonder what's everyone doing regarding small things that may add up

Basically, you go in to do a general clean, but sometimes there's things like the toothbrush pots/cups/holders that look filthy, the soap dish needing cleaned, the dish that hold the toothpaste, the shaving razors etc do you get me?

Will you clean these things every time you do a general clean, or every now and again, or you don't clean at all?

In my house, I make sure it's cleaned on a weekly basis, so I tend to clean whenever I see this in a client's house. But I notice some people are quite messy, and I am not sure if this is something considered part of the general clean package.

Thoughts?

Hoovers destroyed in most clients houses

I clean in the UK, for an agency. Their policy is to only use the client's equipment, tools and products.

I'm not paid all that great per hour, but I don't have to buy cleaning products, equipment, and have insurance, because all of that is taken care of.

But.. and a big BUT. Using the client's equipment can be really painful. And I have to say, I am shocked to say that in the 12 houses that I visit weekly, in only 2 of those, the hoovers are in excellent condition.

Everywhere else, it's smelly as heck, they clearly hoovered liquids, and plenty of liquids and the contents stayed fermenting inside the dust container. 🤢

I had a client buy a new hoover, and immediately they hoovered spilled tea on the carpets when I wasn't there 🤦🏻‍♀️ I mean come on people, if you want to use for hoovering liquids, that's fine - but make sure you'll clean it afterwards. PLEASE!

I sometimes wish I worked alone, and would have my equipment 😂😂🥲🥲🥲

How many pillows one bed needs?

I've not been working long as a house cleaner, but if there's something I dislike doing in my house is the bed. I don't know, something about it that breaks my back and makes me really tired.

I'm 5'2, I suppose that doesn't help much.. but I only have 2 pillows, one for each of us.

Now, what is this of, a lot of my clients having 10 different pillows in each bed? And having to change more than half of them?! Most of the pillows end on the floor by night time! And I'll be picking them up the next day...

It's very tiring changing the bed linen..

Home baker - difficult customer

Hi there, so I have been baking from home, since a few months ago. I have not been super busy, but had a cake or two every month or so.

I have in place the policy to ask for a small deposit to book the cake. But then I had one customer a while ago, messaging about a cake for later in the year. It happens they ordered another cake, last month and I have to say the experience was very stressful and it hadn't happened to me before.

The deposit wasn't paid, because I was promised full payment. But this payment, was delayed for several given reasons, until it finally was paid 3 days before the day to pick the cake. The customer was also messaging constantly throughout this time, with irrelevant things and they turned out to be quite picky and micromanaging in the end. This wasn't perceived in the previous exchange of messages.

It is to say little, that I regret having made and accepted this order. I didn't see that it would turn out so stressful. Even though my time to work on it was very short, it was perfectly manageable hadn't the customer constantly been needing my attention and that I replied to messages on the days leading to the cake day.

They were content, but still fuming that they had to pay a lot for it (I calculated all the costs and laid out for them, if anything I didn't charge properly). Turns out they really couldn't afford the cake. But I suppose they still wanted it very much.

I am just stressing out and overthinking that they won't be leaving me alone now... They comment in almost all of my social media posts, and react to a lot of the posts too. But I found the whole thing so exhausting and so very stressful (I also had quite a lot going on, on the side) that I politely cancelled the other cake for later in the year. I just can't go through that again.

Maybe I don't have the balls to continue this business ☹️

I wonder if anyone experienced something like this, did clients retaliate later down the line? I don't like conflict and because this person wasn't 100% happy, I refunded 30% of the final price for fear of retaliation, but also hoping they will go away and stop bothering me. I apologised multiple times, and was always polite.

Honestly, the cake was delicious and made to the exact copy, colours and decorations.☹️

This was days ago, but I am still upset and I feel haunted and worried...I just can't seem to shake this off. I know I will find difficult customers, it's impossible to avoid them...I just wonder if I've made the right decisions with this one, to prevent future problems...

How to clean bathrooms faster?

Edited to add, I'm working under an agency, they set the agreement with clients I can't take my own stuff, just gloves and different shoes or covers. They have insurance and arrange cover for when I am away, if that happens. Most of the clients are understanding if I would take longer as I'm only getting to know their house. Maybe I'm overthinking and stressing with no need!

I am changing careers at the moment, and I am cleaning private houses between 2hr - 4hr slots. Despite cleaning have been part of my previous jobs (in kitchens), cleaning private houses wasn't my main job, except cleaning my house. I also did offices long time ago too.

I am in the UK, and I am struggling to clean the bathrooms fast enough. In all fairness, it is still my first week, but, I thought the bathrooms were just the worst, and I never seem to have the proper tools (clients provide cleaning products, tools, equipment, etc).

How realistically, can you clean a house in 2 hours, that have 3 bathrooms, with the 3 toilets in it and 3 shower rooms and 1 bathtub? Also do dusting, tidying, changing bed linen of 1 of the bedrooms (master bedroom), vaccuming and moping? 😰

I felt completely defeated after 1.5hr. Sure, there wasn't too much clutter on the floors, or on the shelves in the bathrooms...

Only overstayed 30min, but it was a big push!

What tips have you got to clean bathrooms? I know about pouring the cleaning product down the toilet, spray around the hand sink and whatnot... But it feels impossible to make it faster..

Working with an inexperienced boss

I wonder what people's thoughts or experiences are in the following I'm about to write.

I worked for a while, in a place where the owner hasn't had much experience or hands on, of years of working in the trade. But managed to set up their own shop and build a presence in town.

However, the boss only employs people that are inexperienced, apart from me and another one person or two. They're also obsessed with people just doing things their way, and not being open to accept that there are many ways of working towards the same end.

I know I am already experienced and I have tried to advise on how things could be done easier, but I am constantly dismissed or talked to like I just started learning. Sometimes I take it, sometimes I feel really annoyed.

I am planning on leaving, because I see too many mistakes and I wish I could explain and make them see that things don't have to be so difficult, but it's the way of the boss and there's no saying otherwise.

I wonder what your experience working with inexperienced bosses is? This is the second time it happens to me, I decided I'm not going back to working for small businesses, I get too stressed and care too much to be accepting mediocre. But what I find more mind boggling is that they mostly surround themselves with inexperienced people.

Why is the screen recorder so shit?

Recording the screen is painful! I normally used it a lot with my family. Now, before I start recording, I need to choose between multiple options, and I have to drag the menu from the top down, and hope that when I click on said option it starts recording.

Why make it SO convoluted?!?! This is not the only annoying thing about the Nothing OS.. .

Despite all the bad reputation around it, it was religion - christianity - that taught me about love and kindness, when everything else around me was bad.

The title really refers to a time when I was a child, growing up and coming to an understanding about the world.

I grew up in a traditional family in Portugal, where people were going to the Church every Sunday and some more if they wanted. The children, were put into "classes" that run inside the Church or in a building nearby. The "teachers" were people that had some sort of relation to the church. Choir singers, ministers, helpers, administratives, and the likes.

At some point, when females were allowed to help the priest in the altar, as acolytes, my parents signed us up for it, and me and my brothers were there every sunday. And then we'd go to the class, in the church, after the mass.

I was a believer, and I prayed every single day, at night. Life in my house was total chaos. Verbal violence, alcoholism, death threats every week or so, by my dad. Every night, after silence would fill the house, I'd write in my diary. I'd pray and talk to Jesus. I did what I could to be good.

But not only that, growing with so much violence, I never really knew what it was to have affection, or listen to a loving word from my parents. But then I would go to these classes and I was learning about being good, kind, loving, throughout the years. It was the only thing keeping me sane and kept me from following darker paths.

I did resent my parents and fought them a lot, being a teenager. I wanted to protect my brothers and sisters from harm. Throughout my life, I had plenty of friends that chose different means for coping with life's challenges. At the time, mine was believing that someone that loved me was looking out for me. And it wasn't my parents.

If it wasn't for the nights, where I spent reflecting with God about why were things so difficult, trying to reason and come to an understanding why was the world having so many problems, I don't think I'd have made the right choices whenever a bad path was laid in front of me.

I never found the answers for all of the bad happening, but I thought, if at least I'll be good and kind, maybe that will make a difference. Or I'd challenge myself sometimes, it doesn't matter how bad life is, being good and kind is always the best option. I'd try to immitate what I had learn, follow in the steps of Jesus.

Up until the point where a major event happened in my life, and something in me completely shifted. I was burnt out, tired, it is, as if my faith dried up. I couldn't bring myself to pray anymore. I wasn't writing in my diary. I wasn't talking to God or Jesus anymore.

I don't know how to describe my relationship with religion nowadays. I don't go to church anymore, nor I pray.

But I do, wholeheartedly believe, that it were those years, going to those classes in Church, that helped me cope with the violence around me. If anything, good can come from religion, is how they teach love and kidness. In my time. I don't know how it is nowadays. This happened over 30 years ago. Sure, the classes lasted for 10 years, and I don't regret it. I enjoyed it. A lot of kids didn't enjoy it.

In a conversation with my now fiancé the other day, reflecting on how life has been so miserable, the death of a few loved ones shook the both of us, leaving us angry and demoralised. I sometimes wonder, how would I be, had I continued going to the Church, and praying? After all, it's the thing that saved me back then, when there was not much love and happiness around.

I understand how religion could be a construct to manipulate masses. And it may as well be, for if we reflect on it, the majority of the faithful are poor or living in poor conditions, it's like accepting you'll never be financial secure and have a decent living in today's sciety, but at least you have religion and faith. Religion, of whatever kind, brings some sort of comfort and hope.

Are we all wired to feel connected to something more? My fiancé doesn't participate in the same feeling, and since very young age he doesn't believe there's something more to life than this reality. I know I am a bit of a dreamer. Maybe I'm just being nostalgic... But I sometimes really wish, I could go back to having that same faith, from 30 years ago. The delight and happiness of knowing that a Higher power or being was listening to me. I wish, I could believe again. I wish, life hadn't crushed the faith I used to have.

Thank you for reading

The realisation of life

People tell me that therapy helps. Maybe it would.

But growing up in a violent house, filled with anger and not being allowed to talk to others about it, makes it hard to trust anything, anyone will say.

I did go to a few sessions of, maybe what you can call therapy. But I just felt that I was forced to remember and talk about things I didn't want to talk about. I felt butchered, and I don't think I'll ever do it again.

Why do I have to be the one seeking help, why is the world constructed in this fucked up way, where the oppressors have it easier, and the oppressed have to be crying out for help?

I didn't ask to come into this world. I didn't ask to spend my whole time, working away, in an asshole business, wasting my health and energy towards someone else's "dream".

Why did I have to work early to escape a fucked up household, to find out, I am going to be working with assholes, my whole life!!?!!!!

What the actual fuck is this? Where do I exit?

Hi, I am not sure if this is the right place, to post this. Please remove if it's inappropriate.

I am writing this, because I struggled all my life with socialising with others. I was heavily bullied at some point in middle and high school, apart from a couple of teachers and a handful of friends, I never had any other support.

I was never talkative except if the subject would interest me. I have massive trust issues when it comes to building up relationships, even if it's just with acquaintances.

With colleagues at work, it's where I have been struggling the most. When I stayed for 4 years in one place, there was someone that I could confide in and I knew she could be trusted, but it took well more than at least two years to build that trust.

Same for friendships in high school, I only made 2 more friends, and I was considering them friends by the end of it... Even that, took some time.

Along with that, I never took criticism well. I almost feel like crying immediately when people call me out on wrong things, or have a confrontation with me. We're talking in a work setting, but I know that if my partner were to speak out loud my flaws or what he doesn't like in me, that would make me cry and potentially be upset.

See, I thought I was maturing. I don't know what the hell is going on. Sure, I lost my dad 5 years ago, and a sister 3 years ago, and that hasn't been easy to deal with.

I overthink a lot, I am constantly alert to hear if people are criticising me, not that I'm going to confront them, because I'm scared shit, but because I constantly worry I don't fit in.

And I don't fit in. I don't talk much, and ever since some colleagues made very snarky comments towards myself, I haven't been able to let go, and I am quiet most of the time.

Maybe because I witnessed them actively ignoring a couple of new people, that weren't as experienced, now I can't bring myself to chat more to them?

I don't know. I am completely lost sometimes as to why I behave and react the way I do.

I needed to put this into words. I'm just unsure what I want to ask at the end of this... Do I need help somehow? I don't even know where to get it if I need it.

I have experienced a few sessions of therapy in the past, but I felt like I was being butchered and forced to talk about what I didn't want to speak about....

I have no idea what to do. I just wish, I wasn't such an overthinker and so stressed all the time.

Thank you for reading.

Todas as divisões têm bolor.

Obrigada
