Why do my Sony A6700 photos feel flat compared to every other camera I’ve owned?

Hello everyone,

I’m sharing my issue because I genuinely can’t understand what’s going on.

I love photography and I also enjoy camera gear itself. Out of passion and curiosity, I regularly switch camera bodies to try different models from different brands.

So far, I’ve owned:

  • Fujifilm X-T3
  • Lumix S5
  • Lumix S
  • Lumix S9

All of them had their strengths and weaknesses.

Out of all of them, the one I preferred the most was the A7 IV.

Since my finances are no longer what they used to be, but I missed photography, I bought a Sony A6700 a few weeks ago, thinking I would basically get a “small A7 IV.” However, I’m disappointed with the results I’m getting.

I simply cannot explain why, but I’m unable to achieve image quality similar to what I got from all my previous bodies, regardless of brand.

I first tested it with the Sony 70-350 and the Sigma 18-50, then moved to the Zeiss 35mm f/1.8 which is known for its incredible sharpness and even then I remain very unconvinced. The image is sharp, but much less crisp and pleasing than anything I previously owned. It lacks (micro)contrast, depth, dimensionality… overall, it feels rather flat.

Of course, I shoot exclusively in RAW, and I’m not saying the A6700 is a bad camera at all. But for some reason I genuinely can’t explain, I’m getting results that are significantly less satisfying than with every other body I’ve owned, even compared to my old X-T3, which was also APS-C and paired at the time with a fairly standard lens.

EDIT: after thinking about it, could it perhaps be related to pixel pitch?

  • Panasonic Lumix S5: ~5.94 µm
  • Panasonic Lumix S5II: ~5.94 µm
  • Panasonic Lumix S9: ~5.94 µm
  • Sony A7 IV: ~5.12 µm
  • Sony A6700: ~3.76 µm

Switching from OEM 17” to OEM 18” wheels on a 2019 508 SW

Hello everyone,

To explain the context, I own a 2019 Peugeot 508 SW and I’m extremely happy with it overall.
The only small downside is that it currently has the 17-inch wheels, which are very comfortable but not especially attractive aesthetically.

I’ve always wanted to switch to the original 18-inch setup instead.

My question is whether the final look would be strictly identical to the factory configuration. I’m asking because you sometimes see cars fitted with OEM wheels that still somehow look “off”, either sitting too high or with wheels that stick out too much or sit too far inward.

It makes the upgrade even more tempting considering mine is the 1.6 THP 180 version with adaptive suspension.

Thanks in advance for your opinions and advice.

Returning a €2,400 Camera to Amazon Germany from Italy - Should I Be Worried?

Hi everyone,

I’d like to get your opinion on a situation I’m dealing with.

I live in Italy and I’m a frequent Amazon customer. I have to admit that I’ve made quite a few returns on my Italian Amazon account over the years.

I’ve also ordered several items from Amazon Germany, mainly photography equipment, because prices are often lower there.

In 2026, I haven’t actually placed many orders, but I did cancel around eight orders that were never shipped because the products were out of stock. None of those items were ever dispatched.

About three weeks ago, I ordered a Fujifilm camera and lens for a total of €2,400. After only a few days, I regretted the purchase and decided that I wanted to return it.

At first, Amazon asked me to provide a front and back copy of my ID before approving the return, which I did. They then refused the return anyway. After I insisted, they asked me to send photos of the product from every angle, which I found excessive, so I gave up.

A few days later, I contacted customer service one last time through chat. This time, the representative approved the return immediately, even though the 15 day return period had already expired, and sent me a return label. Since the return is going to another country, I still have to pay about €40 in shipping costs.

Given all the scrutiny and hesitation on Amazon’s side, I’m now very nervous about sending back items worth €2,400.

I’ve read stories from people who said they returned expensive items and either never received a refund or had their Amazon accounts closed afterward. Others said Amazon claimed that the box was empty or contained the wrong item.

So my questions are:

- Is there a real risk in returning two high value items to Amazon in another country?

- Are returns typically recorded or filmed when they are received?

- Could Amazon claim that the package was empty or that it contained something else?

- What precautions should I take to protect myself?

This situation is frustrating because the camera does not suit my needs, and I would like to buy a different model, but I am very hesitant to return it if there is any significant risk of losing the full amount.

Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Sony A6700 + Sigma 17-40mm + 70-350mm contre Sony A7C II + Sigma 28-70mm

Hello everyone,

I’m a former Sony A7 IV user. I used to own the Sigma 85mm DG DN Art and the Sigma 24–70mm DG DN Art which I had to sell mainly for financial reasons. I was extremely satisfied with that setup.

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to buy a brand-new Sony A6700 with the Sony 70–350mm. I’m planning to add the Sigma 17-40mm f/1.8 DC Art. I previously owned the Sigma 28–50mm f/2.8 and was a bit disappointed with it. It was good for the price and weight, but I found it somewhat lacking in terms of sharpness and especially micro-contrast. The Sigma 17–40mm seems to be on a completely different level, although it costs around €1,000.

That said, I still have a few days left to return the A6700, and I’m considering switching to a Sony A7C II with the Sigma 28–70mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary, since adding the Sigma 17–40mm f/1.8 to my current setup would increase the total cost significantly anyway, given that this lens alone costs around €1,000.

With the A6700, I can’t seem to achieve the same “wow” effect I had with the A7 IV, or even with my previous full-frame cameras from other brands. It’s difficult to define exactly, but I feel like I’m missing pure sharpness and a certain sense of “depth” in the image.

I really love the size and form factor of the A6700 even more than the A7 IV and I also love its autofocus, which the A7C II shares. However, I’m a bit disappointed because the A6700 seems to get noisy fairly quickly at higher ISO values (which is expected with APS-C), and overall I feel the image rendering is not quite as good. That said, perhaps the Sigma 17–40mm would improve this significantly.

My main question is:

Would a Sony A7C II with the Sigma 28–70mm produce noticeably better image quality than a Sony A6700 with the Sigma 17–40mm? For roughly €200 more, I would lose the 70–350mm but gain a full-frame setup. I’m struggling to determine whether the image quality difference I’m noticing is mainly due to the larger sensor and higher effective resolution, or if it’s mostly because I’m currently using a less capable lens.

I’d really appreciate any advice or firsthand experience.

Thanks!

QNAP TS-251D suddenly stopped recognizing my password

Hi everyone,

I have a QNAP TS-251D that I powered back on a few weeks ago. I only turn it on when needed since I basically use it as a simple network drive and not really for NAS features.

A few days ago, for no apparent reason, the password for my personal account stopped working. The default admin/admin account is disabled. The NAS suddenly no longer recognized my password and I had to reset it.

This was not a typing mistake because I had been copy/pasting the exact same password from my password manager for weeks without any issue.

Also, the NAS had not installed any system update before this happened.

How is this even possible?

How to safely configure Carbon Copy Cleaner when source and destination are already identical?

Hello everyone,

A few months ago, I switched to a MacBook Pro as my main and only computer so I now need to rethink the way I handle my backups.

That’s how I discovered CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner). At first, though, my experience setting it up was… pretty catastrophic.

Because of a mistake on my part, the backup task completely wiped the destination storage along with all the data already on it.

After a lot of time and patience, I finally managed to rebuild everything from several different sources, apparently without losing any data.

So now I’m in a situation where I have:

  • my main storage containing all my data
  • and a second drive on my NAS containing a 100% identical clone that I manually recreated myself.

What I would like to do now is properly configure my CCC tasks without risking wiping the destination again.

My questions are:

  • Can CCC compare/analyze the source and destination before the first backup so it recognizes that both drives are already identical and avoids rewriting everything?
  • If yes, what would be the safest way to set this up?
  • Is it possible to use CCC to back up from the NAS to an external drive connected directly to the NAS, or would that necessarily need to be handled through the NAS interface/software itself?

Thanks for your help

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice and feedback regarding my backup strategy as I’m not sure which direction to take anymore.

I used to be on Windows with 4TB of internal storage. All my data was stored locally and I manually backed everything up to a 4TB Crucial X9 external drive.

A few months ago, I switched to a MacBook Pro but with much less internal storage.

My first idea was to go for a NAS: a 4-bay setup with four 4TB drives. This would suit my needs well since I mainly store photos and videos that I access directly from Adobe Lightroom and DaVinci Resolve. I also tested an older QNAP device that I borrowed and it worked perfectly.

The idea behind the 4-bay setup is to use RAID 5 for better data protection and scalability. I would also use my Crucial X9 as an external backup for the NAS (I’m not using the full 4TB yet so it would be sufficient for now).

However, I’m a bit hesitant because of the cost. With current prices, a 4x4TB setup would cost around $1200. I’m wondering if that’s overkill for a non-professional use case especially since I’m currently the only user.

My second idea would be to use the Crucial X9 as my main storage and buy a reliable macOS software (any recommendations?) to perform incremental backups to a second, larger external drive. This option would be significantly cheaper (around $300–$400). However, I have a few concerns:

  • Would it be as reliable as a NAS in terms of data safety?
  • Are there good tools that can handle incremental backups between two external drives?
  • And more importantly, would this put a heavy load on the Mac (essentially making it do the job of a NAS) during backup operations?

Thanks in advance for your advice 🙂
