Last time I shared our local passion project here we only had one fish available, now we finally have another made (and just in time for Halloween)! I have very fond memories of my parents taking my brother and I down to see the salmon after spawning when we were kids! I recently visited the Vedder to do some photography and seeing the decaying salmon again instantly brought me back! Hope y'all enjoy and have a great fall :)

I made some salmon plushies based on the diversity of iconic fish we have in the Fraser! Two are available on our Etsy at the moment! :) Nekra the Zombie Sockeye Salmon Plush Collectable BC Salmon Line Wave 1 by From the Shale Plushies - Etsy Canada

We just made a unique trilobite plushie based on our favorite Lower Cambrian fossil! BrennanThePaleoDude - Etsy Canada It is now available on our Etsy :) We made sure to include key features such as gills above each leg and a hypostome! This species was named after my mentor and Paleontologist Guy Santucci!

Carri and Bini were designed to include important features that are often neglected in some reconstructions, such as gills and head elements! We plan to make a diversity of Burgess Shale and Cambrian creatures into plushies down the road! They are available on our Etsy! :] Carri the Anomalocaris Canadensis Plush Toy Eager Formation Wave 1 by From the Shale Plushies - Etsy Canada

Soon-to-be physical plushies on Etsy!

Salmon were a huge part of school growing up in the Lower Mainland. I have fond memories of painting wooden salmon to decorate fences and learning about their life cycles on field trips to local hatcheries. Their importance, struggles and determination were inspiring to me as a kid. I wanted to do something as a love letter to these resilient and iconic fish. So far, we have only made a few, but after we are done, I would love to work on sturgeon and trout next! :)

So far, we have only made a few, but after we are done, I would love to work on BC whales and tidepool creatures next! As a local artist, I am inspired by marine life. I spent a lot of time at Fisherman's Wharf and Clover Point when I was younger, exploring the docks and rocky shore. I can't wait to make even more fascinating local aquatic critters into plush works of art :)
