Anyone else?

This is my latest MRI scan. Even walking to the clinic felt like walking on a broken toe. Given that I have failed a boot and a cast, what’s next to try?

The next steps?

Recently I have been posting about pain coming back after having my cast removed. Unfortunately, my foot feels the same as it was before I ever did any treatment, if not worse. For a bit of background, I started feeling symptoms in November, and managed with footwear, orthotics, and pads as best as I could. I finally saw a doctor at the end of March, when nothing I was doing was helping.

I wore a walking boot for 6 weeks and a cast for another month. After removing the cast, it took a couple days for me to walk normally, but once I did, the pain came back worse than ever.

I am unable to walk, run, or work and desperately seeking a solution. I will be seeing a different doctor very soon, but I would like to also hear from your experiences. Has anyone been in this position, and how did you finally get back to norma activities.

Thank you very much in advance. Wishing you all pain-free steps!

You know you have sesamoiditis when your foot stuff follows you around.

Thought I would share some humor with you today.

When the cast fails…

I made a post a little while ago expressing some concern over sesamoid pain following the removal of my cast. Unfortunately, the pain has now escalated pretty much back to what it was before I got the cast :(

I am extremely frustrated. Not only did the cast make my leg weak (one leg visibly smaller than the other), and my ankle stiff and very painful to use, but it didn’t even fix the problem.

Anyone been in a similar situation? I am hesitant to get a cortisone shot due to the risks involved and cannot tolerate another round of boot/cast. Any insight is appreciated.

Sesamoiditis potentially still there after 1 month non-weight-bearing.

So I just got my cast taken off today. It was on for a month, and before that I was in a boot for 6 weeks (which did nothing, prompting my doctor to do the cast). Of course, my ankle is sore and my leg is weak, but that’s to be expected.

However, there is still a sore spot right over my sesamoid. If I try to bend my toes, it still hurts. Has anyone had symptoms like this during their recovery? It would be really disappointing if the long month in the cast didn’t fix it.

Has anyone had to permanently stop running because of sesamoiditis?

Looking for people’s experiences with running long-term. I made a post a few weeks ago on r/sesamoid about running with sesamoiditis, and the responses weren’t exactly encouraging! Has this been a “career-ending” injury for anyone or is recovery possible? I would appreciate any input.

I’ve been running through sesamoiditis since last November. Finally saw a doctor at the end of March because it was just absolutely brutal. She put me in a boot and ordered an MRI. Had the MRI done last week, after spending three weeks in the boot. It showed mild marrow edema in both pieces of my tibial sesamoid (bipartite). My doctor expected me to be transitioning out of the boot by now, but the pain isn’t gone (however it’s much better than what it was in March).

I have tried ice, metatarsal pads, carbon fiber insoles, orthotics, and wide shoes. I can walk okay with metatarsal pads, but I’m not so sure about running. How did you guys finally get this to clear up? Is it more about managing pain rather than trying to fix/treat it? I would love to go running again soon!
