OTA update: Will it happen with Connected Services deactivated?

Basically the title. Is the car still reachable by Subaru when I am not connected to it myself?

12V issue: **UPDATE** MY CAR HAS GONE CRAZY!

After a couple weeks of running the iPhone Shortcut to automatically lock the doors ever 2.5 hours, suddenly this happened.

The 9:20pm and 12:00 midnight automations, for some reason did not run.

3 hours after the 9:20pm automation should have run, the sawtooth drain started. First time in many days.

The 2:30am automation also didn't run, so didn't interrupt the communications with the mothership. It ran for a solid 4.5 hours, just like before.

Now here is the weird part. I woke up at 6:00am, saw that this had happened, so triggered a Remote Lock using the app, intending to come back later for some investigation.

Unbeknownst to me, another sawtooth started, which I never noticed until 7:50am. I decided to wait 10 minutes and see what the 8:00am automated locking did. At 8:00am it ran, stopping the sawtooth.

What I learned:

  • Don't rely only on Remote Locking to intervene - it can fail. More than one failure can make 6 hours of idle time, which the software then sees as an opportunity to try to "phone home" for 4.5 hours
  • The sawtooth drain event does not require the car to be driven before starting the 3 hour countdown timer. Enough "idle time" can kick it off.
  • The sawtooth can happen more than once in quick succession. Mine finished at 5:20am, then restarted at 6:20. Left unchecked, this would probably have killed my battery.

So, reluctantly, I have again killed my Subaru Connect, and will leave it deactivated until Toyota fixes the software.

For what it’s worth - 12v battery in a good place right now

So to very quickly recap.

I had the sawtooth battery depletion problem like many other new owners did.

I deactivated Connected Services and it totally disappeared.
I reactivated a couple days later and it came back.

So I bought an AGM battery. It made the sawtooth a much smaller component of the total voltage.

Then, after reading about it on here, I made an iPhone shortcut to automatically lock the doors through the app approximately every 2 hours 40 minutes. You can see the little blips on the trace when this triggers.

Now, I have no sawtooth pattern, no major voltage changes, I have full use of Connected Services and I feel confident that the battery will be fine until Toyobaru figures out the problem.

Just an FYI for those that have been experiencing these incidents.

Automated Remote Locking and 12v Sawtooth: Anomaly?

Had a weird thing happen this morning.

My iPhone automation (9 times a day) has been working well for stopping the sawtooth drain 3 hours after driving.

However my phone triggered a remote lock (as scheduled) at 5:20 am - then at 5:42 am the sawtooth started for the first time since parking yesterday at noon.

I intervened by manually triggering a remote lock and will monitor over the next few hours to see what happens.

For curiosity’s sake: AGM 12v voltage trace

I installed a new H5 AGM battery yesterday. The overnight 6 hours DCM activity did this to the new battery. On the old battery a night of this would take it down to near or below 12v.

This is just data, not recommending anything.

Once Toyobaru finally 🤞🏻 fixes the DCM issue, I will still feel better having a stronger accessory battery.

Edit: Car was locked in garage, not plugged in, key hanging 3 meters away.

Remote Start: No CarPlay when I power on

Noticed this the last 2 times I did a Remote Start. I get to the car and the climate settings are engaged and the car is cool.

I sit in the seat and press POWER. The seat moves up and the car enters READY mode.

However, CarPlay does NOT start, is not even available on the screen's left-side menu, and the system will not connect with my phone, like it instantly does on a cold start. Also, my SiriusXM does not start playing after powering on the car, like it does on a cold start.

The only way I can get CarPlay and SiriusXM running is to either:

  1. Shut off the car and restart it, or
  2. Hold the infotainment power button, forcing it to reboot

Either of these will cause the car and phone to instantly connect.

Is this a quirk or am I doing something wrong??

EDIT to mention: My '22 OBW would fire everything up as normal as soon as I pushed the START button in the car after a Remote Start. Guess that is why I expect it to work the same.

Has anyone with an AGM replacement battery mitigated the low 12V issue?

UPDATE July 17 11:30am PDT: I did buy and install an AGM Grp 47/H5 battery. Reactivated Subaru Connect (opted OUT of 'Service Connect' during the reactivation process) about an hour ago. Will see how it goes.

I am aware that an AGM battery won't "solve" the issue, it will merely allow more leeway in what happens with the 12V charging/discharging patterns in this car.

I am considering buying a Grp 47/H5 so I can reactivate my Connected Services. I am really missing the ability to pre-cool my car. This really pisses me off, but I realized I can either be pissed off and uncomfortable, or pissed off and comfortable.

Like the title says, I am looking for real world experience on this topic.

Did you personally experience the low 12V issue, change out your stock battery for a Group 47/H5 AGM, keep Connected Services active and now you have no worries about the battery dying on you?

Interested to know.

Sleep Score woes

The app did not record sleep at all last night. So, I entered it manually but the app tells me ‘no sleep stages or scores will be calculated’. Duration only.
In the old app, if it somehow missed automatically recording a sleep, I would manually enter a start and finish time and the app would still calculate my sleep score and subscores. How is this better?????

12V drain solved by DCM replacement on Lexus sub

This will no doubt be of interest to all new Trailseeker owners.

A Lexus owner with "our issue" had his battery and DCM replaced. Parasitic draw went from 2A to 30 mA

Note that some of the comments are from a Toyota tech, confirming the issue and solution.

Got her home! 2026 Trailseeker in Brilliant Bronze.

The dealership experience was efficient and friendly, the in-car tutorial was excellent, and the 400 km drive back home through the BC mountains was a dream. Started in Surrey, BC at 100%. Stopped for a top-up at a Tesla Supercharger in Princeton, BC and spent a total of $10.79 and 18 minutes to get her back to 80%. She's home now, tucked into the garage, plugged in to Level 1.

I came here from a 2022 Outback Wilderness, so this one has big shoes to fill. That car was amazing in every way - never had a single problem. Hopefully my luck continues!

New gear day: 412ce-Fall Limited Edition

I just came into possession of this beautiful 412ce-FLTD.
As a gigging musician, I wasn’t prepared for the throaty, crisp sound through the PA. It is absolutely perfect and sits great with my voice in the mix. I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship!

Where is Jardiance all of a sudden?

After being absolutely BOMBARDED for 3 years, suddenly I haven’t seen a Jardiance commercial for the past 3 months. Not even once.
I kinda miss all those dancing fatsos.
