Why do I sometimes feel more depressed during happy moments?

Sometimes I feel more depressed when something good is happening. It sounds contradictory, but I’ve noticed that some of my lowest feelings show up during moments that are supposed to make me happy.I could be laughing with friends, having a genuinely good day, listening to music i love, or experiencing something i’ve been looking forward to, and suddenly there’s this heaviness underneath it all.

It’s almost like I’m experiencing two emotions at the same time.Part of me is genuinely happy, but another part of me is standing outside the moment, watching it happen, and instead of simply enjoying it, i start thinking about how temporary it is.

I might catch myself thinking,“this is nice, i wish i could feel like this all the time” and somehow that thought makes the happiness hurt.

Sometimes I even feel sad while I'm still happy, because I already know the moment will end.I’ll be laughing with someone, and somewhere in the back of my mind I'm already imagining myself alone again later.I’ll have a really good day, but instead of just being grateful for it, start thinking about how tomorrow might feel.

There’s also this strange guilt, when I’m depressed, often feel like I have no reason to be. So when something good happens, I almost feel like I’m not allowed to still be sad. I’ll think, “Look, nothing is wrong right now. Why can’t you just enjoy this?" and then I feel guilty for not being happier. Sometimes I think the hardest part is the contrast, when you’re depressed for long enough, sadness becomes familiar. You know what it feels like. But when something genuinely beautiful happens, you’re reminded of the version of yourself that can still feel things deeply, and that can be painful.

Because for a brief moment you remember what feeling okay is like, then the moment passes and you notice the emptiness again.

I also wonder if part of it is that I don't fully trust happiness anymore. When you’ve spent enough time feeling low, happiness can start to feel temporary or fragile. Instead of relaxing into it, part of you is waiting for it to disappear, almost like, “enjoy this while you can, because it won't last" maybe that's why some happy memories actually make me sadder afterward. Not because the memory itself was bad, but because I know I can't go back to that exact moment.

I don't want to sound ungrateful,i genuinely appreciate the good moments in my life. That's what makes this so confusing.I can be happy and depressed at the same time, can laugh and still feel empty, can have a good day and still dread tomorrow, can genuinely love a moment while simultaneously wishing I could feel that way more often.

I don't know whether this is something other people with depression experience, or whether I'm just getting trapped in my own head, but sometimes it feels like the happiest moments don't make me forget my depression, they make me more aware of it.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Alert: Cyber Cafe / Someone else filled their own bank details for my NEET registration refund

Hey everyone,

I am making this post to raise awareness and see if anyone else has faced this issue or knows a workaround.

While checking my submitted bank details for the NEET refund, I realized that someone already entered their own bank account details instead of mine or my parents'.

Here are the details currently showing on my portal:

Account Holder Name: Aarif Hasan

Bank Name: NSDL Payments Bank Limited

Submission Date: 26/05/2026

I am incredibly stressed because the security deposit refund will now directly go into this person's account. The portal is currently locked, and I cannot edit these details online.

Has anyone successfully managed to change their refund bank details by emailing or visiting the NTA headquarters? If you have any advice or draft templates that worked for you to get NTA's attention, please share them below.

Be very careful and double-check your confirmation pages, guys!
