What is ROTC like for a 2 year graduate program?

I know this is dependent on the program. I was thinking about doing ROTC at my state school after I finish my BA in the spring.

I am going into ELA teaching, but I want to get my master's and have always wanted to join the Guard. My state guard would pay full tuition for ROTC while I get my master's, and I was wondering what to expect in a 2-year program.

Could I maintain a part-time job? I currently work full-time while being a full-time student.

What is drill like? like I know there is drill weekend but what does my everyday look like compared to an average student?

Any advice would be extremely welcome, thank you!

The Wall

I have built up a Great Wall within myself
Made of concentrated stone

I have tried to go under it
But the length extends further down than I can dig

I tried going over it once
But atop sits razor wire
Which hurts me

I have even tried going through it
But the wall is much to thick
And tough

I am not strong enough to get through
I figure it’s time to turn
And go another way

Catholic University was what deconverted me

I got my BA at a Catholic school and am about to start my master's at another Catholic School.

I went into University a devout Catholic. It wasn't til I had classes with Catholics that my worldview changed. I began to genuinely be shocked at how little they knew about anything. They barely knew the Bible but referenced it constantly. And their ideas on how to solve real-world issues were appalling. Talking with more and more Catholics made me realize that they are following this faith blindly. I began to feel disgusted at basing my morality on something so absurd.

Then my mentor and English professor gave us Genesis to study. He brought out the hypocrisy in the text and helped me see through it.

Eventually, I would stay after class to discuss the obscurity of the book of Revelation by John, and he helped me change my mind.

I owe him a lot, and I owe that school a lot for hiring irreligious professors who spoke their minds. Education of any kind is the best way to rid religion.

Just wanted to share

I start today... Again

I lost about 50 pounds in 2021. Went from my highest at 265 to 215. I then nearly broke my spine and began to stress and binge eat yet again.

I am down to 205 right now. But I have been binging. I have an eating disorder, and have probably had one since COVID. But recently I have begun to feel bad. Stomach pains, bloating, etc. I am getting older, and it is starting to affect me more and more.

I decided that today is the day I start to finally hit my goal again. Please wish me luck. I am making this post more or less as a marker for when I start.

I don’t know where to even start with ancient history

It’s such a broad subject it overwhelms me. But I really want to read about the Roman’s, Greeks, Egyptians, etc.

My specialty is in US history but I’ve been reading more Western European history as of late. Anything before the Columbus expedition though is so foreign to me.

I was wondering if there are any good books to get started in understanding just the ancient world

Talking with Christians is such a frustrating affair

Most hardcore Christians don’t know anything about scripture or their faith or the history of their faith.

But yet when in debate or discussion, Christians show the strongest opinions.

I find it impossible to talk with most Christians based on the fact they state their point of view as an objective morality but yet are ignorant to what their faith even is.

And yes I’d say this is a majority Christian thing. Many of my Muslim friends know their text like the back of their hand and can at least point to specifics.

[POEM] Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen

Dulce Et Decorum Est means “It is sweet and fitting to die for one's country,” a popular Latine phrase during his time.

Wilfred Owen was a British Army Officer during WW1.

He wrote some incredible anti war poetry during his time serving. In 1917, he was wounded and diagnosed with shell shock (what is now diagnosed as PTSD). He returned to the front for complicated reasons. But continued to protest the war while fighting.

In 1918 on November 4, he was killed while attempting to cross a canal during the battle of Sambre-Oise canal. Shot down by German machine guns. A WEEK before the armistice.

He lives on with some of the best Anti War poetry ever written.
