[PC, Enhanced, Vanilla] Looking for a relaxed and medium-to-low population RP server.

- PC, UE-5 Enhanced Edition

- Unmodded only. I don't want to have to deal with mods, I've spent enough time messing with the load order and googling error messages so I can wear some bad looking elf ears and armor.

- I prefer closer to Vanilla settings. I want to play this survival game for what it is, not hit level 60 and build a castle within my first day

- I'm looking for something more light or incidental RP, I'm not interested in writing up some huge backstory and then getting scolded because my character canonically prefers axes but I used a sword and thus I went against my character's backstory (this one is based on a true story but in their defense I was Zathar the Axe-Lord)

- I'd prefer something smaller and more relaxed, even a little password protected community, rather than something way overbuilt and sweaty. I want less people who are more interested in RP, vice a bunch of people who just named themselves Gandalf because it's all they could think of and never actually RP.

- PVE is preferred. It's cool if there's an arena or something for sanctioned PVP fights, but I'd rather not get raided by the alpha clan led by the server owner's alt (this one is also based on a true story and I have no defense for them)

- This one's implied but I'd prefer if the server staff wasn't a bunch of power tripping needle-dick shitheads (this one is based on many true stories)

Edit: alternatively if someone's looking to start something that matches my desires, I'd be down to host and work with you

One of my favorites in my collection, I will die on the hill that “25 to Life” is a great game.

I’m a bit biased in that I love contemporary crime fiction, but this game was overhated in 2005 and still holds up. The gunplay is so tight that it feels like a modern game, the control mapping is a little obtuse (separate buttons for swapping guns/to melee, which makes sense but isn’t implemented well)

The story is fun, the music is great, I really like how side objectives are integrated into the main objectives and the gameplay and it feels like I have to try to accomplish them without going way out of my way and killing the momentum.

[TOMT][early 2000s] an anime that starts with a woman breaking out of some kind of (medical?) facility, fighting through dozens of guards

I might have watched this on Toonami, but looking at lists of shows on Toonami nothing looks familiar

The show opens with a woman breaking out of some kind of well defended facility, I think it’s supposed to be a scientific or medical facility, she’s attacked by a bunch of guards and fights through them

It was modern or maybe a cyberpunk setting, it was a pretty serious action anime, I don’t remember it being very funny, it felt pretty heavy.

I remember nothing after she escaped from the facility

My favorite part about this game is how boring and mundane it feels like 80% of the time.

I’m a big WW2-head. I had Sergeant Rock comics growing up, I saw Saving Private Ryan way too young, I still replay the classic Medal of Honor and Call of Duty games (CoD lost its way after CoD3, you will die on this hill), but even the old CoD games, designed to be a more “average soldier slice of life”, still centered around climactic set pieces where you were the main character.

I love ER2 because it lacks these huge epic scripted events, I truly feel like Anton Kolotov sitting in a trench with my homies, exchanging fire with the fascists, waiting to either get my head blown clean off or go home and impregnate my hot slavic wife.

There’s no car chases, if a tank shows up there’s not some unkillable officer telling me “Anton, go grab the TNT and take out that tank!”, if I’m not in an anti-armor role then I just have to cower in my trench and pray that I’ll make it home to impregnate my hot slavic wife.

Even other comparable games like Hell Let Loose feel too much like an action movie compared to this beautiful game. This game truly feels like it doesn’t want to sell me the glory of war, it wants me to hide behind cover, rifle in one hand, grenade in one hand, photograph of my hot slavic wife in the other hand.

One of my biggest pet peeves in the genre is "bloated resource variety", and games that avoid it.

I'm not sure if there's an official name for this genre norm, so I went with that. Surely I'm not the only one annoyed with this.

So let's say I just started the game, I'm low level, and I'm harvesting Tier 1 Wood to craft my things. I end up with a thousand Tier 1 Wood and then I'm ready to upgrade to Tier 2 Wood, but now I have a thousand Tier 1 Wood that's ultimately useless.

And yes, I can throw away my Tier 1 Wood to make room for my Tier 2 Wood, but if the game never tells me, "you'll never need Tier 1 Wood again", then I won't know that I'm safe to throw it away. And I've seen games subvert this by allowing me to use Tier 2 Wood in lieu of Tier 1 Wood, so I know I'll never need Tier 1 Wood again. And I've seen game that will let me upgrade my Tier 1 Wood into Tier 2 Wood, making my Tier 1 Wood not useless.

Conan Exiles is pretty good about avoiding this. All wood is wood, it can turn into the other tiers/varieties of wood. All stone is stone, it's used for bricks and then hardened bricks. Iron is used for all but one tier of craftable metal (iron to steel to hardened steel). Animal hides are used in armors, but they also turn into leather that's used in armors or to craft higher tier leather, tar (a byproduct of turning hide into leather) is used to craft late-game resources. Pretty much everything you're collecting in early game is still useful in late game.

Enshrouded is pretty good at letting you upgrade/use alternative materials, but you'll still end up with some weird early game resources that will collect dust in your storage room once you progress.

What other games have you played that subvert or avoid this? Or games that are especially egregious about it.
