HELLOOOO FROM A NEW IPAD!!! The summer smackdown will have to wait a bit longer because the backup of all my files and data I’m using on my new device now is from January 2025. My dad needs to back up all of my current data from my old device to the cloud once we get back from my grandparents house so the earliest I could see the next round happening is monday. until then I haven’t done one of these in a while so,,,,extra extra red all about it

Hi again. I’m merp. this is the final and last part of me showcasing what I had made of a scrapped Hilda x dandys world au called DANDYFOLK. while it’s true that I only completed four and a half of the planned 15 episodes, I still had the entire story of the au basically mapped out. that is what we will be going over today, along with some character concept art

first of all. second slide. this is the episode list. The four names in purple are the episodes that I had completed and the rest were planned but never made. I’m gonna go over them one by one so if you have context about what happened earlier you will be able to follow along. ill also share interesting tidbits about their development

Chapter 6: The Apprentice. This episode would’ve focused on Shelly and Brusha. Dandy and co. would hear about a talent show happening in Gardenview hosted by sprout and bassie, and encourage Shelly to join. Shelly would be dismissive, claiming she doesn’t have a talent, however through some means Dandy and Astro would find out Shelly is studying to be the apprentice of a witch: That witch being Brusha. Shelly would’ve wanted to keep her apprenticeship a secret, but Dandy eventually convinces to preform in the show with her magic under the guise of stage magic, and Shelly would’ve won the grand prize. This episode was originally called the Talent Show in my initial drafts, before the Shelly Magic plotline was finalized.

Chapter 7: The Underwater Princess. Shelly, being the productive toon she is, organized a fishing trip for ev’ryone. Dandy and Astro are exited… untill they learn that Finn is their guide. Shelly, having never met Finn before, isn’t annoyed by him in the slightest, unlike Dandy and Astro, until Finn tells them of a sea monster living in the lake they plan to fish in. As they sail, eventually they meet a Jellyfish named Jellybell. Jellybell, the underwater princess in question, is searching for help because the monster from Finns legend is attacking her Kingdom. Everyone goes underwater with Jellybells magic, and under the water they meet Jellybells guard, Triton. He is intent on leading the royal guard to kill the beast, but after they try fighting it with no luck, Shelly uses an emotion spell to calm the beast down, and the day is saved. Jellybell and Triton are characters from Dolly’s factory. I was planning to mesh a bunch of characters from fanworks and Dandy-likes where applicable, one of the best examples being this episode.

Chapter 8: The Reindeer. It’s CHRISTMAS!!! Rudie the Reindeer has crashed in Gardenview, and Dandy and co. along with Cosmo and Ginger find him while preparing for the Gardenview Winter Festival. Rudie claims to have fallen out of the sky while pulling a magic sleigh. Ev’ryone thinks he’s crazy, but dandy hears him out and wants to help him get home. He and Pebble go on a journey with Rudie, and over tome Dandy learns he may be magical after all. Back at Gardenview, the rest of the cast get into hijinx trying to set up the festival. Dandy Eventually finds a cottage with Rudie in the far, far north where Bobette the Gift-Giver lives. Bobette lets Dandy ride in her sleigh, and they both return to Gardenview to celebrate the winter holiday. This episode has clear inspiration from hilda’s The Yule Lads with shades of The Bird Parade. However, strangely enough, the characters of the Yule Lads are more similar to the Funglings from yesterdays post. 

Chapter 9: The Investigators. When things start to go missing around the Museum, Eggson calls upon Shelly and her friends to see if they have any leads. The detective, Rodger, and junior detective Toodles are there to investigate as well. The stolen items in question are actually not the exhibits, but items surrounding them. Signs, glass cases, velvet pillows and things like that. The culprit, Gigi, was using them to do… something. Now that we are later in the series the plots are going to get more loose as the further down the line we get the less locked in the specific plots are

Chapter 10: The Nowhere Train. While practicing her magic, Brusha accidentally sends her to an alternate dimension. Shelly discovers this, and Dandy and Astro come with her to try to respeat the spell in order to find her. After some attempts, tit works, and they find themselves traveling between dimensions on the Nowhere Train, run by the mysterious Dyle Timesly. The train goes on forever (you could call it an… infinity train) (rimshot) and the different doors lead to different entryways to other universes. They find Brusha, and find their way back to their dimension… but not to Gardenview, as the train plops them directly into the woods.

Chapter 11: The Circus. While wandering through the fores (which Dandy is accustomed to at this point), the Gang +Brusha find a circus tent. Inside the tent are…

Looey Yatta Blot Meistro Twilight Preston and Spinette.1 of those is one of my ocs can you tell which one

ANYWAY. the circus preforms for Dandy and co., and when they get wind of Brusha’s powers, they ty and get her to join them. The circus is supernatural in nature, and once you’re apart of it you can never leave. Dandy and the gang end up escaping together, and with directions from the circus’s token good teammate, blot, they start their trek onward.

CHAPTER 12: The Haunted House. Having escaped the circus, pomni and Jax end up- wait wrong show im so sorry

Having escaped the circus, the gang wanders onward until nightfall. Needing a place to sleep, they all take refuge in an abandoned looking mansion. Ev’rything seems fine at first, but there be monsters in this house, and they want to scare our heroes out their wits! All of the Halloween toons (+ Connie, and Candyce and Fang from TZ are there too!!) pull supernatural pranks all night long, and after a confrontation, Gourdy explains to the gang that scaring is their job, and they didn’t mean any harm and just wanted to have some fun. All is forgiven and Astro gives ev’ryone good dreams.

CHAPTER 13: The Winning Question. Ive been on record saying Vee in this au fits in Eugene‘s role from Hilda, and this is where she finally comes into play. After MORE wandering, Dandy and co stumble upon an abandoned warehouse which Vee just so happens to be! She fires up her game show, and ev’ryone is a contestant. Except Brusha. when Vee dragged ev’ryone onto her set, she forgot Brusha and left her behind, leaving her to try and break her friends out. Meanwhile, if the Three Toons Triumph in vee’s game show, Vee will tell them where to find help. If they lose, they will have to stay with Vee FOREVER!!

…They win, and Brusha helps ev’ryone escape. Before they go however, they tell Vee about the internet and how she can find an audience there. Overjoyed, Vee uploads herself to the cloud, and holy shit it’s FINALIE TIMEEEE

Chapter 14: The Sacred Beast. Yes it is a reference to the tally hall song. Anyway, THIS is what chapter two was alluding to! The gang go where Vee told them to, and they found a magical county of butterfly creatures, like Flyte and Flutter. Ev’rything seems fine at first in this happy dappy land, untill OH NO! Remeber that bone dandy took? Well the creature that it belongs to is very real in this world and is after them, and the gang has to use their abilities in a way I have not finalized to win! and once they win! the butterflies send them back to Gardenview and it’s a happy ending yay. that’s it. da-da da dada da.

but this post has more than two slides! slide 3 is a list of characters and their roles in the au. As you will see, some characters are listed under Adult. I know canonically all of the toons are adults and I. Dont like that. But I’m not gonna get into that right now

The rest of the slides are character designs! The first 3 are townsfolk, the next 2 are some adults, and the est are the various creatures. Please don’t ask “oh where’s my favorite character!!!” The designs I made here are the only ones I’ve made. There aren’t any more.(except for the funglings but I’ve put them in part 5 So I don’t see a reason to show them again) Jellybell, Triton and the evilll sacred beast are there too! For the beast I wanted to stylize them as one of the ghosts from Hilda and they look really cool if I do say so myself

anyways… that’s it. That is what was left of dandyfolk. Maybe one day I’ll come back to it, but for now this is where the story ends. I’m deeply sorry to anyone who was looking forward to this project, and I hope youve enjoyed what was made despite it not being a lot.

if there’s one thing I’d like you all to take away from this, its that you should WATCH HILDA!!! PLEASE!!!!!!! ITS SUCH A DAMN GOOD SHOW YOU GOTTTTA WATCH IT!!! especially if you have had any interest in this au at all. I promise you will be satisfied if you do choose to watch. it’s on Netflix. please. Also play twilights zone on roblox I promise that’s good too

Hi I’m merp. Throughout the week, I’ve been posting about my dandys world x Hilda au that I’d unfortunately had to scrap. The other posts had episodes that were complete, but i had only four episodes finished. This is Chapter 5, the Fungling keeper, and sadly it wasn’t ever finished.

if the name Fungling sounds familiar, that is because I got permission from the legend himself, Decco, to use the characters in the episode. and uh. decco.if youre reading this I just want to apologize. when I asked to use your awesome ocs i thought I could stick with the au till the end, and I’m sorry that I couldn’t . I hope you like what little I did complete nonetheless

in other news, the art for the episode was never completed, but the script is! The way I was making these episodes is I would write out the script, then plan out what moments I would want to turn into illustrations, which I would then make. Then I would add the captions last, which is why there is a notable lack of captions in the screenshots.
anyways, here is the script! It only matches up with the illustrations untill a certain point, so just use your imagination for the rest.

Hi everyone! Butturflygurl back again with another DANDYFOLK episode review, and goodness gracious was this one action packed with a very unexpected ending. I cant wait to tell all of you about it. But FIRST??? housekeeping.

For those who don’t know or forgot, these posts will follow a play-by-play ish format. I’ll talk about the episodes here, and when a number in parentheses shows up it will correspond to an image in this very post. I recommend you read the text and view the screenshots as they show up, as that’ll make for a more cohesive experience! Also, if you haven’t, make sure to go read the reviews for the other 4 episodes too! Now, with all THAT out of the way… this is Chapter 5: The Fungling Keeper! (2)

It’s another pleasant morning in the city of Gardenview, and Astro is telling some stories about what his life used to be like as an amateur dreamweaver. (3) Dandy, in response, tells how his life before he met Shelly consisted of exciting adventures wandering the wilderness. He didn’t have a place to settle down to, but he always saw something different and amazing, and wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Astro laments he never tried to go on real adventures in his old home… in fact, the closest thing to one was the journey to help Cosmo with his delivery (which is what happened last episode :D). Shelly recommends they visit a local nature trail in Gardenview that leads to the forest, and Dandy takes this opportunity to show his friends what a REAL adventurelooks like.

Shelly and Astro follow Dandy and Pebble as they start their journey into the woods, following the trail. (4) Shelly brought a backpack full of equipment for their journey, and although grateful for it, Dandy would rather rely on the wilderness to sustain himself as that is what he is used to doing. 

Astro is being cautious with every step, and as they trek down the trail further and further into the forest he begins to look more and more uncomfortable. Aparently there haven’t been many ’incredible sights’ so far on the trek… so Dandy thinks the only way to find some is to divert from the path and trek into the uncharted wilderness. Astro is concerned about getting lost, but Shelly brought a compass that always points back home somehow. Knowing that, Astros worries are soothed as they wander into the woods… and he’s doesn’t notice a trio of eyes watching from the bushes.(5)

After some more walking, Astro gets a feeling that the crew are being watched… and it turns out they are! Mysterious creatures are stalking them from the woods, talking about how Astro is “the one”, but hold that thought because Dandy found a GIANT MUSHROOM! (6) He’s never seen anything like it before. And as the gang turn to leave, a large net is suddenly fired directly at Astro!

Turns out, the net was fired by these mushroom things called the Funglings. Dandy, Shelly, and Pebble notice Astro being carried away by the little mushroom men, (7) and the three toons give chase. Before they can get close, however, a large hole opens up next to the giant mushroom, and the Funglings jump inside, carrying Astro with them. 

The hole begins to close slowly, and Shelly and Dandy decide the only way to get Astro back is to follow the mushrooms down the rabbit hole…(8) so they jump down, and it’s quite a long way. Longer than they were expecting. Long enough for them to regret jumping down, and landing with a loud thud.

Meanwhile, Astro is still caught in the rope, thrashing about and using his stars to try to get out. (9) Astro, though rightfully terrified about being kidnapped, builds the courage to ask the creatures what their deal is. The Funglings report that they are taking Astro, who they beleive is the Grand Fungling, to present as a sacrifice to their queen. An ancient prophecy fortold the Grand Fungling would save the Fungling Queen and revive the land of the Funglings. Astro tried to talk them out of this, proclaiming he isn’t a Funglng, but they don’t listen. Down they go, deeper into the tunnels, untill they stop and release Astro from their net in front of a giant tree-mushroom-hybrid-thing… aka, the Fungling Keeper(roll credits!), Pholia. (10)

Meanwhile x2, after recovering from their gnarly fall, Dandy and Shelly race down the tunnels, with Pebble in the lead tracking Astro’s scent. A group of funglings attempts to stop them, proclaiming that they will not interrupt the procession, but Dandy straight up throws Pebble at them which all in all must HURT. (11)imagine getting hit with a dog-sized rock. Yeesh

So following Pebble, Dandy and Shelly are led to where Astro is being held as Astro steps forward to meet the Fungling’s Queen. The Funglings present Astro to her as an offering, (12) still thinking that he’s some sort of prophetic higher being.  Before the Queen can do or say anything, Dandy and Shelly put a halt to the proceedings, claiming Astro is in fact, not a Fungling, but a Dreamweaver.

Pholia, the queen, does not have eyes, explains that she is hundreds upon hundreds of years old, and the Funglings try to keep her alive through rituals like these by using the life force of other, more powerful beings to keep the entire Fungling Kingdom alive as the prophecy fortold.  (13)The Funglings have tried to fufil the prophecy many a time, and failed, but this time they truly believe that Astro needs to be sacrificed in order to help the colony survive for another hundred years.Astro tries to explain to the creatures he is NOT a Fungling, but they won’t budge. So as everything comes to a head, Astro shows undeniable proof he isn’t a Fungling: he opens his blanket that he has been wearing through the show so far, and reveals he has Four Arms.😮 (14)

Pholia cannot see this revelation, but Astro knows a way he can communicate it to her. He goes near her, and uses his dreamweaver magic to show her a vision of himself. During the dream, the cavern they’re in seems to become far less dreary, and a few plants start sprouting. (15) When Atsro and Pholia come back out of the dream, the walls crumble again and the plants that grew wilt. 

Pholia claims that dream was a euphoric experience, and that she has not slept in hundreds of years since she wanted to spend every waking moment with her people. Astro realizes a way for the Fungling kingdom to stay alive without sacrifices: by putting the queen to sleep indefinitely. Pholia is initially against this, but seeing as she cannot see and can barely move, agrees that this would be the best choice to save her people. And with that, Astro uses his powers to put the queen to sleep, and the tunnels begin to bloom again. (16)

Cheers erupt from the Fungling people, as their home will finally thrive again thanks to Dandy, Shelly, and especially Astro, whom they call their savior. Dandy apologizes to Astro for almost getting him sacrificed to a plant god on his first real adventure… but Astro is glad all of this happened. He’s proud of himself for helping the Funglings.

Amidst all the celebrating, Shelly inquired about how in the world they are gonna get back up. The funglings are avid climbers, so they can traverse the tunnels just fine, but for normal toons cannot navigate them easily.  Dandy and Astro start to worry that they’ll be stuck underground forever, but then, Shelly takes the book from the end of last episode out of her backpack,(17) takes a wand out of it, says a spell, and Dandy, Shelly, Astro, and Pebble dissapear. 
And GUESS WHAT???? THATS HOW THE EPISODE ENDS. THESE CLIFFHANGERS ARE KILLIN’ ME I CANT WAIT FOR NEXT WEEK AUUUUUUUGHHH

So ummmmmmm Shelly’s a WITCH?? Or like magic??? Astro has four freakin arms? And Dandy is. um. i dont know what dandy is but aparently he’s been traveling for a verrryyy long time. 

This episode was a great one! The atmosphere in the cave was great, and I enjoy the Funglings designs they’re all very gremlin silly things. And Pholia was freakin COOL she has such a commanding stage presence cuz she’s so big, and the way the team got to save the Funglings was smart. I hope we can see more of them in the coming episodes

Anyway that’s all for now! The series is set to have 15 episodes (though iirc the last one is double length) so we’re offically one third through the series! It feels like we just started but I know it’ll be over someday and I will cri

yeaaah Shelly is a witch. to continue with the parallels from hilda Shelly was going to be practicing magic along with Brusha, but I will explain that more in depth when we go over the unused concepts for the rest of the series tomorrow.

the images after the funglings stealing Astro are concept art! I felt the need to include them so the post would feel less empty. the first one is the first pass of the fungling design along with pholias design,and the second one is the finalized fungling designs.I took inspiration from Hilda’s Vittra, as you can probably tell, but also i took design inspiration from the Yule lads, specifically with the shade under the mushroom caps and each fungling having a different color. I feel like theyre silly enough

Another thing to note. The first completed artwork where ev’ryone is sitting at the table? That yellow character in the stall on the right is Saturn from Twilight’s Zone, another Dandy-like which you guys shoudl play I promise you it’s good. I was planning to incorporate other characters from other dandy-likes too, which I will elaborate more on TOMORROW!! But saturn was the first non dandys world character to be featured in the au as far as I can remember

Anyways. we are in the final stretch now. Tomorrow I’ll go over allll the unused things and episode ideas and then I’ll FINALLY be finished. I’ll probably put all the episodes into a drive to archive them but I’ll worry about that later

Hi everybody! Butturflygurl here with yet another DANDYFOLK recap and review! The newest episode just released last night, and I gave it a watch so I could write down my thoughts. Im gonna say right of the bat, this episode is a bit more relaxed than last weeks episode, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, this episode introduces a lot of new characters and fleshes out the city of Gardenview more, and it was really interesting to see. Make sure to go back and read my reviews of the previous three episodes if you haven’t. 

For those who don’t know or forgot, these posts will follow a play-by-play ish format. I’ll talk about the episodes here, and when a number in parentheses shows up it will correspond to an image in this very post. I recommend you read the text and view the screenshots as they show up, as that’ll make for a more cohesive experience!

With that it of the way, here’s my review for :episode (or chapter) 4, The Delivery! (2)

We don’t get a cool cold open like last time with the meteor, but after the intro, we see Dandy, Astro, and Pebble talking on the couch. Shelly comes up to them and says that something came up over at the museum, and needs to spend the day there to help Eggson.(3) Dandy suggests showing Astro around the city, just like Shelly did a few days prior, and Shelly seems to like that idea. The trio split up, and Astro, Dandy, and Pebble are ready for a day on the town.

Dandy isn’t fully confident about where they’re headed, but from his experience you’ll always end up in the right place if you just keep going. After a bit, Dandy smells something scrumptious coming from a shop window, and it turns out they’ve found a bakery! (4)

The smell gets even stronger on the inside, where delicious cakes, pastries, and cookies are all on display. Dandy and co. Are greeted by the owner of the bakery, Sprout Seedly, who appears to be quite busy. (5)Sprout then introduces his two apprentice bakers, Cosmo and Ginger, who are busy boxing some muffins.(6) Dandy talks about how everything looks amazing, and astro talks about the fact they have no money and cannot buy anything. Sprout is a bit bewildered by this statement, and a bit disheartened, but he offhandedly mentions a way to get some free snacks, which Dandy immenditely jumps on.

Sprout explains about how the bakery has been recently receiving a lot of orders, and he has his hands full trying to complete them all. Dandy gets a bit nervous, because he doesn’t know how to cook, let alone bake… but it turns out Sprout just wants them to deliver some Lingonberry muffins over to Ms. Ceylon with Cosmo. It’s Cosmo’s first time on delivery duty, and Because the bakery is still quite small, Sprout couldn’t find time in his busy schedule to supervise him… which is where Dandy and Atsro come in! If they come with Cosmo on the delivery mission, Sprout will give them a box of their best sugar cookies. Dandy and Astro think it over, but then decide that free sweets for helping someone out isn’t too shabby of a deal.

Outside and with the boxed muffins in hand, Dandy is ready to deliver the muffins on foot, which Cosmo laughs at. Turns out, Dandy, Astro and Pebble will all be riding in a small cart attached to Cosmo’s scooter, which he mentions he got recently. They all get in, and set off to make the delivery. (7)

A little ways down the road, Astro inquires if Cosmo knows where he is going, just to make sure. Turns out Sprout gave Cosmo a small slip of paper with the adress written on it. Everyone’s releived… right up untill a strong gust of wind blows the paper right into a soda- stained drain. (8)

Cosmo is devistated, as he has no idea where Ms. Ceylon lives, and is too nervous to go back to get another slip from Sprout out of embarrassment. Dandy says they’ll just have to ask around town and find her in a different way, and Cosmo reluctantly agrees, having seemingly no other choice. 

Gardenview is quite a large city with many many residents, so it probably wouldn’t be too difficult to find someone who knows about Ms. Ceylon’s whereabouts. Dandy suggests their first interviewee should be a small shrimp, and goes up to ask for answers. Cosmo desperately pleads Dandy to stop, and it turns out his fear is justified, as the shrimp is extremely aggressive and rude, (9) even trying to throw rocks at the scooter as the gang desperately escape. Cosmo explains that is Shrimpo, the towns resident (for lack of a better word) jerk. When someone gets on his nerves, he’s usually pretty persistent in chasing them down, so they will need to tread carefully.

Cosmo tries asking multiple different Toons, such as Poppy the bubble, Scraps the cat and Goob the dog (I think), a weird little onion thing, and Finn the fishbowl. Poppy doesn’t really know who they’re talking about but thinks that Pebble is adorable (as she should) (10). Scraps doesn’t have any useful information, (11) while her brother Goob just wants to hug everyone and also eat the muffins. (12) New favorite character. Oh, and the onion from episode two is here. Astro thinks they should try and ask them, but Dandy doesn’t want to try as they cannot talk. (13)

Finn, on the other hand, is apparently an ‘interesting’ guy to talk to according to Cosmo after Astro gets a feeling he might have information. Dandy doesn’t think he looks that bad… untill Cosmo chats him up at the harbor. Turns out Finn is a Pungeon Master, and puts jokes into every sentance he says. (14) You can see everyone’s expressions sour in real time the more time they spend talking to Finn which was one of the funniest parts of the episode. I have to give credit to the writers for cramming so many puns into a small scene like this.

After surviving a gauntlet of Puns from Finn, they FINally get a lead as he directs them to talk to Glisten the mirror, as Finn believes he would know who Ms. Ceylon is. Scootering ensues, and the gang eventually find Glisten strolling through town. Glisten is fairly snobbish,  but upon being asked where Ms. Ceylon lives, says he knows exactly where and wants to direct them. Just then, out of nowhere, Shrimpo returns and begins chasing at the scooter! Glisten fills the remaining space in the scooter cart, and as they try to out scoot the shrimp who is inexplicably keeping up with the motored vehicle, Glisten shouts directions that are just a tad bit confusing…(15) but eventually, they all make it to Ms. Ceylon’s place. Including shrimpo.

Cosmo frantically goes up onto the porch of a big, fancy house, where a lovely teacup answers the door. (16) Ms. Ceylon is pleasantly surprised by the guests, and politely invites everyone in for tea.  Shrimpo joins in too, to the concern of everyone, but Ms. Ceylon states she knows exactly how to calm him down.

Ms. Ceylon, or Teagan, as she insists, is a good friend of Sprout’s and has heard a lot about Cosmo, although they’ve never met in person. Glisten has met Teagan before, as he boasts that he gets invited to her parties all the time. Shrimpo suprisingly is also quite good friends with Teagan, even though the angry shrimp claims to hate her, her tea, and everything ever… as he sips carefully from his cup. Everyone laughs and Cosmo says he’s glad everything worked out. Shrimpo says he isn’t, and everyone just glares at him resulting in my favorite frame from the show thus far. (17) really gives me Soos saying “I ate a man alive tonight” vibes

Glisten and Shrimpo stay with Teagan for a bit while Cosmo, Dandy, Astro, and Pebble all speed off to return to the bakery to report the successful delivery back to Sprout and Ginger. Sprout is proud of Cosmos successful quest, and he is also grateful for Dandy and Astro for keeping an eye on him. As a reward, Sprout gives Dandy a box of delicious looking sugar cookies to share with his friends. (18) He thanks sprout, and they begin to make their way back to Shelly’s.

When Shelly comes home, Dandy excitedly recounts the adventure he and Astro went on with Cosmo, much to Shelly’s amusement. As they all sit down to share the cookies, Astro asks what Shelly was up to, and she just says she had a few errands to run as the camera lingers on a magical looking book Shelly brought home with her… (19) and then the episode ENDS.

Other than that cliffhanger which we’ll have to wait a week to resolve, this was such a fun episode! We really got a good look at Gardenview and it’s residents, who all have really creative designs. I like how almost every character in the show is based off of an object you’d find in real life, like flowers or teacups. They all have funny interactions with the main group and Cosmo, especially Goob .oh my goodness Goob is adorable i love him so much. Shrimpo was hilarious too, I was not expecting him to return in the climax and it was a great moment.

The adventure this time around felt like a real odyssey and it was fun to follow. I can only hope we get to see more of Cosmo throughout the series, as he seems like a kind character. Also, unrelated, but props to the designers as they found a suitable way for someone with a cylander head to wear a bike helmet. Sprout was cool too, but it’s kind of weird to think he’d trust these random kids with a job like this, but it makes for a fun episode so I’m not complaining.

OKAY NOTES TIME. This is my favorite of the four completed episodes by far. Drawing all of the side characters in the Dandyfolk style was a blast, especially goob and glisten

this episode had a litttlle bit of sprout. I remeber when I first showed off the au people thought sprout was going to be johanna’s 1-1 but NOPE!!! not at all. Speaking of sprout, he was going to play a role in one other episode that never saw the light of day but I will talk about that more on Saturday when I go over all the unused concepts I had for the series

that green onion thing who can’t talk isn’t a just random OC. that is Kelsley from the Kelsley Chronicle which is a Hilda fan project I am making that was meant to go along with Dandyfolk. Kelsley ended up outliving Dandyfolk in the end as I will keep working on her story which you can read HERE!!! If you haven’t watched Hilda it won’t make much sense to you… which means you should watch the show please it’s SO GOOD you GOTTA

another note, The cake in the window and the ‘lingonberry muffins’ are references to the Hilda mobile game, Hilda creatures. I would know this because I haven’t been emulating the game since the beginning of this year. It took me 4 months to meet Hilda

not really much to say about this one, i reckon ill have more to say about the next two episodes (or rather 1.5). anyway. here is the original text

Hi everyone! Butturflygurl here with a recap and review for the newest episode of DANDYFOLK, and oh my goodness what an episode it was! If you recall, there’s was a blue moon character in the posters and promotional material for the show that hasn’t made an appearance yet, and I’m happy to say that this is finally their episode! It’s only been three episodes but it feels like it’s been a lot longer than that for some reason LOL. I can’t wait to tell you guys all about it! Make sure to read the reviews for the previous two episodes if this is your first time seeing of of these posts!

For those who don’t know or forgot, these posts will follow a play-by-play ish format. I’ll talk about the episodes here, and when a number in parentheses shows up it will correspond to an image in this very post. I recommend you read the text and view the screenshots as they show up, as that’ll make for a more cohesive experience!

Anyways, this time we’re jumping straight in, becuase that’s what the episode does. The first shot is of a tall mountain at nighttime. The shot lingers for a while, untill a giant blue meteor crashes into the mountain. (2)  After that you’re thrown into the series intro wondering what the heck just happened, but it will all be explained eventually… in chapter three, The Dream Spirit! (3)

So the cold open happens, then the intro, then the title card… then Dandy is seen relaxing on the beach, surrounded by the ocean.(4) Due to the title of this episode, anyone could probably guess that this is a dream sequence. But before Dandy wakes up, he notices a small blue figure watching him from beyond the beach,(5) and Dandy is sent catapulting out of “bed” before he has any time to react to what he just saw. And I say “bed” because Dandy is still sleeping on Shelly’s couch. Apparently he has been living with her in Gardenview for about a week now, and not much has happened since the day they found that skeleton in the cave.

Dandy, being heavily confused as to what just happened, goes to talk it out with Shelly, who is making toast and jam for breakfast. He talks about the dream he had, and how real and vivid it felt. Shelly wishes she had something to add, but she never remembers her dreams. Dandy, on the other hand, will never forget what he experienced.

Later that day, Dandy, Shelly, and Pebble are strolling through Gardenview, with Dandy still not getting over the dream he had. (6) As Dandy goes on, Shelly notices what looks like a large meteor crashed into the side of a mountain. Dandy suggests checking it out due to general curiousity and a desire to get his mind off of things. Shelly, thinking ahead, rushes Dandy home with her in order to prepare.

Dandy Shelly and Pebble get bundled up, and proceed to scale the mountain. It wasn’t particularly steep, but it was very tall and very snowy. (7) Once they reach the top, the three adventurers begin to inspect the meteor. It has a subtle blue glow, and it appears to have split in half whenever it crashed into the mountain. It appears to be oddly hollow, having enough room for Dandy to fit inside. (8) Dandy immediately assumes that aliens are attacking, but Shelly knocks some sense into him by stating if aliens were attacking, they would’ve destroyed the city by now.

Located around the impact site of the meteor is what looks like sparkly blue sand. Shelly collects a sample, and they all begin to climb down the mountain. Eventually, night falls back at Shelly’s place, and Dandy gets comfortable on the couch with Pebble resting nearby. Dandy slowly drifts off to sleep… but, suddenly, his eyes open wide, glowing blue with stars in them! (9) Dandy finds himself in a sunny field, surrounded by colorful flowers with the distant sound of birds chirping. (10) Dandy, aware that this is another dream, is tense at first, but eventually comes to relax,appreciate his idealic surroundings, and explore.

As Dandy walks, trees start to sprout around him, and soon enough he is surrounded by a dense forest; just like the ones he used to live in before he came to Gardenview. (11) He keeps walking, and eventually comes to a small clearing where the bright sun shines clearly through the trees. In the middle of this clearing is the same blue figure that Dandy spotted in his previous dream!(12) They lock eyes momentarily, and the figure takes off running, with Dandy following in pursuit. However, Dandy ends up tripping on a rock in his dream, waking him up.

It’s still considerably dark out, and Pebble is still asleep next to Dandy. Dandy looks around the room, and notices the sand sample Shelly obtained is now glowing under the moonlight! (13) Dandy wakes up Shelly promptly, and shows her the pouch of glowing sand. While in Shelly’s hands, it seems to emanate a glowing pulse that gets weaker or stronger depending on where Shelly walks. She assumes the sand is some sort of magical compass, and Shelly and Dandy run out to try and find where it’s leading them. 

Dandy and Shelly run throughout the city, with the pulse of the sand growing brighter and stronger, untill out of the corner of his eye, Dandy spots the blue figure that he was seeing in his dreams! (14) As soon as it sees Dandy, it runs off, and Dandy and Shelly give chase.

After some running, the figure ends up tripping not to dissimilar to how Dandy tripped in his own dream, and the duo catch up to him, seeking an explanation. Turns out, the figure, who is named Astro, is a Dream Spirit (like the title!!!!! wow!!!) who came down to Gardenview in an attempt to give its residents happy dreams. The Council of Dreamweavers has deemed Astro unworthy to stay living in his home- a higher plane somewhere in the deepness of space, (15) and sent him down to Earth hoping to get rid of him for good. When the meteor crashed into the mountain, that was Astro traveling to earth.

Upon Dandy asking, the sparkly blue sand is actually Stardust, and it gives Astro the power to enter and shape dreams, but he isn’t the best 

using his powers. That’s why he was banished from his home. Astro apologizes for the trouble, and Dandy and Shelly understand his plight and forgive him. Dandy asks if he has a place to stay, and Astro, having literally crashed down to earth 2 days ago, does not. (16) Shelly sighs and asks if Astro would like to stay with Dandy and her at her place, proclaiming that this is the last toon she’s letting stay at her house. Astro thanks Shelly for her offer and promises not to be too much trouble. Dandy gets an idea, and whispers something to Astro, who nods.

Early in the morning, Dandy wakes up to Shelly once again making breakfast. He sits with Astro, and Shelly reveals she had an amazing dream last night where she dug up a huge fossil! Turns out, that was Astros doing, and Dandy told him to give Shelly a good dream since she doesn’t remeber hers. Shelly thanks Astro, and hopes she can have a dream as special as that one every night. (17)

So… that was the episode. What a loredump XD I knew Astro was going to be important but I did not expect for him to be an alien with dream powers literally from the higher plane. He didn’t go anywhere at the end of the episode, so I can only assume that he’s a part of the main cast with Shelly and Dandy now, and I kinda like that. Astro, from what we’ve seen from him so far, does a good job of rounding out the characters, and I’d like to see more of his personality. It’s funny how Shelly has 3 people crashing at her place now. They wouldn’t but IMAGINE if they kept doing that and by the end of the show Shelly has like. 15 ppl living in her house. That’d be hilarious

 Anyways, this was a good episode. I enjoyed the bit of mystery we get with all the dreams, but I feel they could’ve paced Astro appearing in the real world a bit differently, and have some more parallels to the various dreams. Like, they gang catch up to Astro cuz he tripped on a rock, like in Dandy’s dream. What if the dream was a more specific foreshadow of what the encounter with Astro would’ve been like? I don’t mind how they did it in the actual episode, but thinking more about that makes me wish they did more of it. Missed opportunity in my book. The episode was still great though, and I’m really excited to see what Astro adds to the group in next weeks episode! What do you think of Astro? thats. pretty much it! Astro is a part of the main cast now and the trio is complete. id say the trio in dandyfolk have clear parallels to the main trio from Hilda: dandy being Hilda, shelly being Frida, and Astro being David (And pebble is twig). Interestingly enough, I’ve never really considered an alfur stand in even though he’s such an important character in the show. I don’t really know who would even fit as him. oh well. in the words of Fred jones ”we’ll never know”

anyway after this i have one more completed episode, the uncompleted chapter 5, and some concept art left to share before I close the book on the project for the foreseeable future. Maybe someday once ev’ryone forgets about this ill whiz back like a comet but with ev’rything going on right now that isn’t that likely

Hi ev’ryone. I’m merp. I’ve been in the fandom since it started, and ive been in the bcs community as far back as matches release in flavor frenzy. save to say a good chunk of my recent life has been with these games, but with ev’rything happening, I believe it’s finally time for me to move on. probably. there’s a good chance the drama just blows over, and ev’rything turns out ok. If that happens, I will be forever grateful, but that won’t change the fact that DANDYFOLK, as a project, won’t be able to move forward.

DANDYFOLK is an au that I have been developing since December 2025, and it is based off of a show called Hilda. one day, I realized while doodling that the art style of the show blended perfectly with the characters of the game, and quickly developed an entire story. From then to now, 4.5 of the 15 episodes I had planned for Dandyfolk have been finished. In the time I was working on the project, I was getting great ideas for things I COULD be making. And though working on DANDYFOLK has truly been a blast from here till now, it (along with a few side projects) was one of the only things I was working on, and I did not have time to foster those ideas. I’m going to be turning 17 soon. That means in about a year and a month, I will be an adult. And I would REALLY like to get a specific idea off of the ground before I grow up, even though DANDYFOLK has been going strong for months. So it ends here.

BUT, I did say that I had finished about a fifth of the story, and so these posts will chronicle the first four full ‘episodes’ of DANDYFOLK as a final send off! The fifth post will contain the unfinished Chapter Five, and either the fifth post will also show off things I had planned for the story or I’ll split it into 6 parts. Who knows. Anyway, without further ado, there is the original text for the episode. I think youll get the jist of the au by reading it

Hey everyone, Butturflygurl here! Renecntly, I’ve been looking forward to an upcoming show called DANDYFOLK. The show is created by Arthur Walton, and not many people seem to be talking about it, which is a real shame since it looks like a really fun time!

The first episode just released last night on Netflix, and I would like to give a recap and offer my thoughts on the episodes as they come out, so that’s what I’m going to do!

Here’s the way these posts are going to work. I’m going to talk about what happens in the episode and share my opinions. I’ll also put a series of screenshots from the episodes that fit my discussion. Whenever you see a number next to whatever I’m saying, that’s the screenshot of the scene that I’m talking about. I could just make an all text review, but that’d be boring, and also I just really think the art in this show is cool.

Anyway, here’s the first episode, The Forest Flower! (2)

After the intro, which I can only assume has characters that will appear in future episodes, we open in the forest with two creatures sleeping. One of them is a flower named Dandy, and the other is a rock who acts like a dog named Pebble. Pebble is Dandy’s pet, and I think they’re already my favorite character, LOL! They’re so cute 🥰!

So Dandy and Pebble are sleeping in the woods. Pebble wakes up, and then he wakes up Dandy too (3) and we get a little scene of them traversing the wilderness.(4) Eventually they climb a big mountain, where at the top is a beautiful sunrise which Dandy and Pebble sit and watch together.(5)

After this, strangely enough, is the title card for the episode, which you already saw since it was image number (2). This was a little confusing, but I wonder if they just wanted to do a little scene to set up the rest of the shows tone. I’m not complaining though, the artwork and the colors in the sunrise scene are awesome.

After that, we cut to a new character who is traversing the forest.(6) This is Shelly, and from the shows description on Netflix she apparently is a shell, but I don’t see it. She looks more like a cinnamon bun to me LOL. She seems very interested in the nature around her; so much so that she doesn’t look where she is going and almost bumps right into Dandy! (7)

Upon seeing Shelly, Dandy evidently doesn’t really know how to react at first. Apparently Dandy doesn’t see many people (or Toons, as the show calls them. That makes sense as they aren’t exactly people LOL) come through the forest often, as it’s usually just him and Pebble. Shelly introduces herself and explains that she was looking for fossils she can dig up and donate to the museum(8). Dandy seemingly doesn’t know what she’s talking about, and he explains that he’s been living in the forest ever since he sprouted from a flower patch. He doesn’t really have a home, or family besides Pebble, but he’s content with his life. Shelly is fascinated by this, as she’s always wanted to go on adventures. That’s why she wandered so far into the forest…. That and to find the fossil, of course. But as the conversation goes on, Shelly realizes that she is terribly lost. (9) Dandy and Pebble agree to help her find her home, which Shelly says is a wonderful city called Gardenview. Dandy has never been to a town before, so he is super excited to see one for the first time(10). 

Right off the bat, I like how we’re delving into Dandy’s backstory. So far, Dandy has a great dynamic with Shelly. Both are intrigued with the others differing way of life, and it makes for some fun interactions. But the episode isn’t over yet, so let’s keep watching.

Dandy, Shelly, and Pebble set off through the forest, and we get a little montage of them jumping on rocks to cross a river, (11) running past some wing- tree things, (12) and then running to the edge of a clifff, where we finally see an above view of Gardenview. (13) Dandy says he always loved to climb things for the views at the top, but he’s never seen something quite like this. Shelly agrees and the two sit for a little while, before the three of them start scaling their way down the cliffs.

When they finally reach the city, Dandy assumes it’s his time to go back to the forest and anticipates a goodbye (14), but Shelly, thankful for Dandy helping her find the way home, asks if he would want to stay in Gardenview for at least a little while before he leaves… to which the reply is a big YES! (15)

So the episode ends as they head towards Gardenview. I’m guessing Dandy being in Gardenview will be an important part of the plot of the show going forward, which seems exciting. I think the episode was a good first introduction to the show, and I cant wait untill the next episode comes out. Arthur stated on his social media that the episodes will be on a weekly basis, which is fine by me. One thing I was confused about is the fact that the posters and trailers for the show feature this moon character (who is probably named Astro thanks to the show’s description) but he wasn’t shown anywhere but the intro. I think that he will be in a later episode, but I don’t know how much later since he seems like he is an important character.

so. how was that.

I wanted the au to feel like a real show, almost. Though the first episode was made months ago and I think my art has improved since then (which you will see in the later episodes) I think I did a pretty good job of replicating the Hilda artstyle. The plan was to have all of the episodes finished and release one ev’ry week for as long as there were more episodes to release. I hope you enjoyed reading through and ‘watching along’. Three other episodes were completed, and I will be posting them throughout the week. I’m sorry to disappoint anyone who was looking forward to this projects completion, but honestly nothing will beat the disappointment of the sting of the allegations going on right now

Royalty free for all is an upcoming platform fighting game that I’ve been following for a while, and one of my favorite things about it is the cast of characters. All of them are remixes of characters and concepts in the public domain, and they have been reinvented into adorable, brilliantly cartoony fighters.

Dorothy (imgs 1+2) is freaking adorable. Her lore is that she wished to talk to Toto, sho she became a puppy!!! Her yellow brick bow is a clever touch too

Sweeney Todd (imgs 3+4) is one of my personal favorites. They made him a Barber Pole Vampire Robot with blades for feet and toothpaste for hair. He’s so cool. He reminds me a lot of invader zim, especially with that laugh animation (3) (which I just realized is difficult to see because I used a transparent image. SORRY EV’RYONE )

Mother Goose (5+6) is kind of the goofy-memeish character and her move set is very annoying to face but her design is cute. I like the big puffy hair that looks like an egg

Lilith (7+8) is a weird case. I don’t really know what she’s based on cuz like. she’s a plant .but she’s also like… the mother of demons or something??? I’m not sure. It’s ok because shes very cute. I love her brain plant giving her a little smooch in her taunt (7)

Lancelot (9+10) is so unabashedly boisterous and it’s amazing. He reminds me a lot of Dave the barbarian, if anyone knows who that is. i love that they gave his lance a bandana of its own

NESSIE (11+12) IS SO FREAKING ADORABLE OH MY GOODNESSSSS look at her go! on her little bubble!! The silly!!! Also worth noting, all of the characters have alternate names as seen in their reveal trailers to give the impression that everyone is an actor playing their characters. For example Sweeney Todd’s is Screamshaver. Nessies is Cuddlefish 🥹

Oliver Twist (13+14) is a literal olive . I love his big nose and feetsies and the fact he can create platforms out of the vine growing out of his hat. he also has alternate colors based off of the seven dwarfs which I thought was cute

Sakura (15+16) is a Yo-Kai, specifically the slit mouthed woman, and daresay she’s one of the most creative designs (and also she was my personal favorite to play back in the demo). I REALLY dig how her smile is so big you could mistake it for a mask, and her hair is in the shape of a ghost. Really super clever stuff

Piglet (17) is the worlds best pig!! he’s tiny. I like the fact he attacks with straw, sticks, and bricks like the 3 little pigs .What else do I have to say? Did you know he’s the worlds best pig?

Those were some of the playable fighters, but a few months back the game had a kickstarter with additional fighters as stretch goals. those goals were not met, but Id like to mention the fighters because, although we don’t have much to go off of with them, their designs rock

Bigfoot (18) is literally a big foot with the toes as his limbs. He’s simple yet very effective.

Frankenstein (19) is the fighter I really wish made it in. His design is just. REALLY cool and slick. Hes a combination of the doctor and the monster, which I think is a freakin sick direction to take his character

Lastly, Dante (20) from the devil may cry I mean the divine comedy series is a character I know virtually nothing about so I don’t really know how well they adapted the character into the deign…. But I like this eyeball dude. Kind of reminds me of the watchdogs from wander over yonder

SO EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THIS!!!

the SUMMER SMACKDOWN is a large (ish) scale subreddit event inspired by siivagunner’s KFAD tournaments that will run throughout the summer! 16 creatures will be placed in a bracket, and the subreddit will vote on who they think would win if the two fought. The winner gets… bragging rights? I guess. And a crown. Crowns are cool.

The main tournament will have its first official poll on Monday the 15th, and the results for that poll will come on Tuesday. The next poll will be on Wednesday and I think you get the idea
