Sealed in Time

Sealed in Time

While experimenting with glow and glue I decided to experiment with encasing wax in Adtech crystal clear glue seals.

I used Vaseline to adhere the wax cut out for the heart envelope. As you can see it helped to hold the heat and melted the wax a bit while stamping in glue.

With the rose I first cut out the excess wax and then put it back into the stamp and used my BBQ lighter to melt it back in the stamp. It lost its shape as the wax remelted but it stayed in the stamp and I was able to get a clear wax seal encased in glue. I’m happy with the results of the rose.

Glue n Glow

Because I’m obsessed still with glow in the dark seals I decided to try it with Adtech crystal clear glue.

Glow in the dark pigment powder mixes well into glue during furnace melt process.

Glows great in the spoon. (Secretly wishes I could brew a huge batch of this in a cauldron for Halloween).

Does not hold onto its glow properties well even after minutes under a black light. Almost instant fading happens.

I added silver mica powder to the clear glue which when mixed with the glow in the dark powder lost some of its clarity and became cloudy. Probably don’t need crystal clear glue if you’re going to do this.

Overall glow satisfaction: 3 / 10 (still fun to mix and concoct glowing potions, but severely lacking in glow longevity and beautiful visual sealiness*). *Yes I made up that word.

The Golden Ticket II

As suggested to try it with black scrape and pour on gold to get that real golden ticket Willy Wonka feel.

I forget who suggested it. But thank you. If I find the comment of who made the recommendation I’ll tag you in the comments 😊.

I find black or solid colours are so great for scrape and pour as detail in 2D stamps. Sometimes the metallics aren’t as crisp as I’d like.

Around the World (repeat)

I’m in love with this travel stamp. I’m getting so much use out of it. Plus I hum fast punk while sealing with this stamp.

I decided to try the scrape and pour with black and then marble earthy colours using some green and blue jelly heart wax beads. Just to compare to the gold scrape and pour I did about a week ago plus the gold metallic pen (see first pic)

Which do you prefer?

I just love the hints of translucency.

The last was a failed attempt at the black scrape adhering to the final wax pour but I loved the marbling and vintage feel so I’m keeping it and not remelting.

I did have to adjust some of my levels in the photographs. I’m not great at taking pictures and some of them were darker than the actual seal is. And I really wanted the lightness to come through.

A Rose by Any Other Name

This rose stamp really reminds me of the beauty and the beast Disney rose.

It was a mistake purchase. I meant to select the seal beside this which was strawberries and strawberry flowers. Lots of detail here so it should make a great scrape and pour.

I think I’ll use this to play with pigment or mica powders.

The rest of my new Mini collection

I mostly needed the Christmas ones for my cards but couldn’t resist the others.

I have no idea where I will use these but I’m willing to try mini scrape and pours.

A Pocketful of Lilies and Wax

I’m just in love with this adorable lily of the valley stamp.

I’m a huge sucker for 3D floral stamps to begin with.

The day lily is a 30mm stamp and as you can see I’m still struggling to get the final pour right. I ended up cutting it out. Because the unevenness bothered me.

I’d like to get a touch of orange which I don’t own into the white flower part. Give the lily more dimension.

Promposal

I thought where else can I share this but here.

My son made his promposal (friend only) sign (a riff on a drake album - don’t ask I think the relevance was lost on me, that his friend is particularly into) and asked to use my floral craft paper and magnolia seals. I couldn’t be more proud that my love of crafts helped him out but is also rubbing off on him.

You may need to really zoom in to see the seals in the wild! 😜

I can’t wait to find out her reaction to the sign. He spent hours making this sign. The font and message is directly from the Drake album Take Care.

Flower Wreaths

So I wasn’t careful when I ordered a bunch of stamps online and when these arrived they were huge. They are the 30mm stamps instead of the regular 25mm. Proof you should always read the descriptions 😂.

They take an incredible amount of wax and gauging how much has been a learning curve.

I can’t wait to use them as frame seals with glue and multicolour pours.

In order:

  1. Sunflower wreath
  2. Sakura cherry blossom wreath
  3. Tulip wreath

I think the tulip one would look amazing if every tulip was a different colour.

Now to scrounge my junk mail to see if anything would fit inside the frame.

Brown or Purple?

So I tried mixing 1 green and 1 red wax bead to get brown. I feel like I got purple.

Do I need to add two beads of one colour? And which one?

Also does anyone else see a dark purple or am I possible colour blind?

Sunflower

Another new stamp arrived.

I’ve been puzzling over how to do a multi colour on this and I’m thinking a pour and scrape may not work. I might have to cut it out.

The mid section is lower than the petals and I don’t have palette knives for ants 🐜 lol.

Lilies of Sorts

Two new stamps I’m dying to do multicolour on.

This new wax tends to trap more bubbles than I’m used to. Perhaps I need a lower heat.

New Wax and Stamps Arrived

My heart shape wax arrived.

It’s a wonderful wax. I only wish it would come in more solid colours (not pastels). Ordered on Alibaba from the same company as the sunflowers. This wax is flexible and mail safe. No heavy fumes when heating. I highly recommend this wax and company.

I’m still looking for brown, a school bus yellow, dark green and a pumpkin orange. That’s right Halloween colours.

The mini stamps are a double sided brass barrel with a tiny cupcake on one side and a doughnut on the other. The barrel is heavy. It has a very different feel compared to the screw on stamps.

I can’t wait to try a multi colour seal with these.

Up-cycled Mail into Matching Seal and Tag

I used the Tommy Bahama’s envelope to create the tags. The card inside that they sent to punch the backers for my seals.

I was only able to get 4 tags and a lot more seals but I love that this became a set.

My son used this for his dad’s birthday gift. I couldn’t have been prouder that my kids love to use my seal creations.

(I know it doesn’t match the wrapping paper but this is what he selected. There were other seal options that did match he could have chosen, that’s the next lesson lol)

Mad Science!

It’s Alive!
So I finally got this glow in the dark (black magic) powder.

I tried the first batch with plain vellum or translucent wax. Works amazing but in regular light you can’t see the design.

Second batch (single seal of the spiders web) I added a touch of green to test how to bring out the seals design in regular light. It didn’t really work.

Third batch was in black wax which was an epic fail - no black magic to be had. I even tried with the top seal sprinkling the powder on top of the black wax before stamping. Still a fail.

Fourth batch I used pure white wax. This appears the best for both regular and black lighting.

5th batch is 5 vellum beads and 1 white. This batch held the black light glow the longest after I removed the black light and in regular light the seal design still shows up.

Next tests for scientific purposes is to do a scrape and pour using the white and vellum with glow in the dark powder and a dark background final pour.

I enjoyed playing weird/mad scientist and mixing batches of glowing wax under black light.

Framed!

I used crystal clear glue. And then black marker to fill in the details. I think this would be better as a black wax scrape and pour then glue for the final pour.

I struggled to find pictures tiny enough for this view finder stamp.

I used stickers from a postcard that was sent to me by another redditor, the stamp from said postcard and some floral paper card stock.

My clear glue wasn’t clear enough to see the miniature details of the picture.

I’ll work on this more but I do think the picture has to be brighter for it to show up properly.

Around the World….

I searched for what I thought would be fun backers for this stamp.

I used a Tommy Bahama mailer to get the tropical 1” punched circles. And I used mini maps on newsprint for the rest.

Then I used metallic marker to highlight the relief. I love this stamp.

Now I’m sifting through mail for interesting visuals that can be used as backers to my clear glue seals.

Butterflies Flutter By

I got myself the smaller circle lever punch and was able to punch these tiny butterflies out of card stock. Well here we are I thought it might be fun in crystal clear glue with a 1” blank stamp.

Might also work with crystal clear glue and my 3D heart stamp.

And Action!

Cause what kid hasn’t dreamt of being in movies.

This is another tricky stamp. Some of the details got stuck in the stamp and didn’t come out on the final pour and press.

I’ll keep at it but I do love it and wished the clapper actually moved lol.

I think I could try more colours but I honestly love the simplicity of this being in black and white.

A View to a Kill (Not Really)

This stamp is a bit finicky so I need to practise more on multi pours with it. But it’s very satisfying to complete.

It’ll look amazing as a frame stamp with black and red details and crystal clear glue.
It’s funny cause I’m not huge into frame stamps but I love glue seals.
