Passed the OSCP exam!

I wanted to share a quick experience post for anyone currently preparing. This certification pushed me to improve not only technical knowledge but also patience, documentation habits, and structured problem solving. My goal throughout preparation was to understand methodology and keep practicing consistently instead of chasing shortcuts.

A few things that helped me along the way:

• Built a routine with regular hands-on practice sessions

• Focused on understanding enumeration and systematic troubleshooting

• Kept notes and documented findings to improve my workflow

• Revisited weaker areas instead of only repeating comfortable topics

• Practiced managing time and staying calm under pressure

• Used pass4surexams as one of my review resources to reinforce preparation and evaluate readiness alongside my regular study process

• Stayed focused on learning and improving practical skills throughout preparation

Big takeaway: OSCP felt less about knowing every technique and more about applying fundamentals with persistence and a structured approach.

Good luck to everyone preparing — keep practicing, stay curious, and trust the process.

Forming an LLC doesn’t magically make it a real business

One thing I’ve noticed after spending months around startup founders and small business owners is how easy it is to focus on the “official” parts too early. LLC formation, logos, business cards, websites, operating agreements, all of it feels productive because it makes things feel real.

I recently talked with an older entrepreneur who’s built and sold multiple companies, and one thing he said stuck with me:

“Your LLC is paperwork. Revenue is proof.”

That honestly changed how I think about starting a business.

He explained that a lot of first time founders spend weeks researching the perfect LLC setup, best state to register in, registered agents, business banking, and tax structures before they’ve even validated whether anyone wants what they’re selling.

His advice was simple:

Get your first paying customers before obsessing over optimization.

Don’t spend months building systems for a business that hasn’t proven demand yet.

Talk to real people manually.

Sell something simple first.

Then worry about scaling and structure after money starts moving.

Obviously an LLC has benefits and there’s a point where you should separate business from personal stuff. But I think a lot of us use “setting up the business” as a way to feel productive without facing the harder part, which is actually getting customers.

Curious if anyone else realized this after starting. Did forming your LLC help motivate you, or did you end up focusing too much on setup before validating the business?

[Music Ai] I built an AI that generates music for your video just by uploading it — no prompts, no timeline editing

Hey r/sideprojects,

Like a lot of you, I've been building things in my spare time for years. The part that always killed my momentum? Music. Not the creative side I actually love that ,but the hours of searching royalty-free libraries, trimming tracks to fit, manually syncing beats to cuts, and still ending up with something that felt... off.

So I built Sonilo to solve exactly that.

You upload your video. That's it. No text prompts, no mood tags, no genre dropdowns. Sonilo analyzes the motion, pacing, scene transitions, and emotional arc of the footage itself and generates a full-length, perfectly synced soundtrack directly from it.

I have tested it on everything from short demo clips for my other side projects to product promo reels, and the music genuinely follows the video rather than just playing underneath it. It also gives you multiple variations per upload so you're not stuck with one output.

The demo video I uploaded here shows it generating a track for a raw screen recording walkthrough the kind of scrappy content most of us make — and the result sounded way more polished than anything I would've found and stitched together manually.

The part I'm most proud of: zero manual syncing. It just works.

Would love to hear from other makers — what's your biggest bottleneck when packaging up a side project to share it? Is music/audio one of them, or is it something else entirely?

(Full transparency: I built Sonilo, sharing here because this community has always been real about what actually helps and what doesn't.)

Need help turning this tiny spare room into a beginner cardio setup

https://preview.redd.it/8ftsr6anz92h1.png?width=1075&format=png&auto=webp&s=931ccb800ed03e6be4f869f27c7285af3c2c26e2

I’m trying to turn this small spare room into a basic home gym instead of letting it become a random storage room.

I already have a treadmill that I’ll probably put along one wall, and I recently added a compact Merach rowing machine because I wanted something for full-body cardio that doesn’t take up a huge amount of space. I’m also planning to add a small dumbbell shelf/rack so the floor doesn’t get messy.

I don’t want to overcrowd the room, so I’m trying to keep it practical.

I’m thinking maybe a mat, mirror, fan, bands, or wall hooks, but I don’t want to buy random stuff just because the room is empty. What do you think I should actually get for this space?

Do you think opening a US LLC will help your international SaaS business grow?

I run a small SaaS product from outside the US and most of our users are currently in Europe and Asia, but lately we’ve been trying to grow more aggressively in the American market.

As things scale, we keep running into small friction points that seem tied to not having a real US business presence. Payment processors ask more questions, some software platforms seem to trust US companies more, and even simple things like business verification and banking have become more annoying than expected.

We’ve been considering opening a US LLC, getting a proper commercial address, US banking, and maybe even local support numbers to make the company look and operate more like a domestic business.

What I’m trying to figure out is whether this stuff actually changes anything in practice or if it mostly just feels more official on paper.

For founders who expanded into the US from another country, did setting up a US entity noticeably help with trust, conversions, partnerships, banking, ads, or platform approvals?

What's your go to tool for quick social video content when you're managing multiple clients?

Running lean managing social for several small business clients and video has become unavoidable across every platform now.

The problem isn't strategy or ideas , it's turnaround time. Proper editing software for a 30 second captioned Reel feels like massive overkill but I also can't spend two hours per clip across eight clients.

Been using FlexClip lately for that basic tier of work , quick cuts, auto-captions, platform resizing. Nothing sophisticated but it keeps things moving without pulling me into a full editing setup every time.

Still not sure it's the right long term solution though. Feels more like a workaround than an actual system.

What are others using for this kind of volume? Especially curious whether you've found something that actually scales or if everyone's just patching it together like I am.

At least somewhere in between I read that it would not lead to a flat tire

It is hilarious that one small thing could spoil your day. I saw it when I was about to leave, just a quick look around the vehicle and it felt as though something was off. It took me sometime to realise one of my valve caps was missing.

I do not know much about cars and It has been barely six months since I started driving. When I spotted it, at first I tried to overlook it, it was just the cap and not the valve itself I thought. I am an overthinker so this thing just had a way of messing with my head the whole day.

That is how I pulled out my phone and searched if it was okay to drive my vehicle with no valve cap on one of the valves on the tire. I saw things about dirt and moisture causing damage over time and how air leaks more frequently in a case where the valve is damaged too.

I still was not satisfied, somehow I even ended up on alibaba, and I saw packs of them in variations and I was even more confused. The bottom line was that I got to think about it less because at least somewhere in between I read that it would not lead to a flat tire and nothing will make me park my vehicle on the road. That was all that mattered then.
Do you think it was worth the attention?

It was about that little piece that could make a whole.

I have a friend who does not like to put so much effort in her dressing. Somehow she is always on something simple, nothing loud, nothing that would not make heads turn but I commend her tho’because beyond the simplicity she is always looking good. I remembered one time when we were to go for an event together, I had put so much into my dressing only for her to come in, in the most simple way but still looking very good.

I decided to pay attention to it because if I have to be stepping out with this girl all the time, I do not want to be looking out of place. And just when I started paying attention I noticed it, not even a big moment. It was her earrings. When I asked about them she said they were fashion cuff earrings and that she uses them everytime. She offered to give me one from her collection.

When I tried them on, it felt a little bit softer like a simpler version of me. Later I decided to look up more variations that existed and probably read about what made them stand out on Alibaba. It was not really about that anyway, it was about that little piece that could make a whole.

My EDC metal key chain setup after years of trying everything else first

I went through a genuinely embarrassing number of key organisation solutions before landing on a metal key chain setup that actually works for how I carry daily.
Plastic broke. Leather stretched and eventually tore at the attachment points. Carabiner style clips were bulky in my pocket and caught on everything. I kept solving the wrong problem by adding more to my setup instead of simplifying what was already there.
The shift happened when I stripped everything back and thought about what I actually needed on my person every single day versus what I was carrying out of habit or vague preparedness anxiety.
The metal key chain material matters more than I initially gave it credit for. Brass develops a patina that I genuinely like. It shows use without looking neglected. Stainless steel alternatives stay cleaner looking but feel slightly less characterful to me personally. Both outlast anything I tried before by a significant margin.
I went through a phase of researching key chain hardware quite extensively. Someone in a gear forum mentioned spending an evening on alibaba comparing solid brass ring specifications across different suppliers, which was exactly the kind of detail obsession that EDC communities understand completely even when nobody outside them does.
What single change to your key carry setup made the biggest practical difference to your daily comfort?

Pipedrive vs LionDesk for lead management and follow ups

I’ve been comparing Pipedrive vs LionDesk and wanted to get some real feedback from people who have used either one.

We need a CRM mainly for lead tracking, follow ups, email communication, and keeping the sales process organized without making things overly complicated. Pipedrive looks really clean for pipeline management, while LionDesk seems more focused on communication and automation.

For anyone who has experience with Pipedrive vs LionDesk, which one worked better for your daily workflow? Did one feel easier to manage long term?

Also curious if there were any features you thought would be useful but ended up not using much.

Does anyone else feel like banking gets weird once you stop having a fixed base?

Been moving around for a while now and this is honestly becoming one of the most annoying parts for me

Every few months something comes up again. Random card blocks weird verification requests platforms asking for address proof when I barely stay anywhere long term

I still use my bank account back home + Wise and it works most of the time but lately it’s starting to feel a bit messy

Kinda curious how other people here deal with this once you stop having a normal setup back home

How Much Does a Custom CRM Development Cost?

Hey everyone,

I’m a freelance developer currently discussing a custom CRM project with a small business client, and I’m trying to get a better understanding of realistic pricing before giving a final estimate.

The system would be web based and fairly customized around their workflow rather than just using an existing CRM platform.

Some of the main features include:

Multiple user roles and permissions

Client management

Order management connected to inventory

Admin assigning orders to different team members

Payment tracking and reporting

Invoice generation and printing

Dashboard and statistics pages

The workflow is somewhat operational as well, not just simple lead tracking, since inventory and order management are tied together.

I know CRM pricing can vary a lot depending on complexity, tech stack, scalability, and region, but I’m curious what developers or agencies here would realistically charge for a project like this.

I’m mainly trying to understand:

What would be a fair minimum or average cost for a custom CRM like this?

Would you charge fixed price or hourly for something this size?

How much extra should be considered for future maintenance and feature requests?

At what point does building custom stop making sense compared to customizing an existing CRM?

Would really appreciate hearing real world experiences from developers who’ve built similar internal systems or CRMs before.

Thanks in advance.

Guys please help me decide: BigCommerce or Shopify?

Shopify feels so dominant in ecommerce conversations that I automatically assumed it was the obvious choice until I started noticing people quietly recommending BigCommerce instead.

Now I’m curious what makes someone go that route.

Is it lower costs over time? Better built-in features? Less reliance on apps? Or is Shopify just easier for beginners and that’s why it gets mentioned more?

I’m interested to hear from people who picked BigCommerce on purpose and didn’t feel tempted to switch later.

Why open-ended sand play is better than structured toys

I’ve been spending a lot of time observing how my kids interact with different types of beach toys at our local park, and that made me realize a lot of interesting things. The highly detailed character molds like a plastic car or a specific cartoon animal usually hold their attention for about ten minutes before they get bored but when I give them abstract tools like buckets of four different sizes, heavy-duty sifters, and sturdy, flat-head shovels they stay deeply engaged in collaborative play for hours nonstop.
This has made me start researching educational-grade sand equipment that focuses on volume, weight, and texture rather than just flashy colors. I found great vendors on platforms like Amazon, Etsy, and Alibaba that sells heavy-duty sets specifically designed for actual preschools and sensory gyms. These are thick-walled, textured for better grip, and designed for heavy daily use by dozens of kids unlike the typical ones you find in the grocery store. I usually mix those with some natural items like large shells or driftwood to create a flexible play environment. It’s been incredible to watch their fine motor skills and their ability to solve problems together as they figure out how to build different imaginary things in the sand. If you want a truly peaceful beach day where the kids are actually learning, give them tools that require imagination rather than toys that do the thinking for them.

Why do similar looking DC/DC converters behave so differently?

I’ve been trying to understand something about DC/DC converters after a small project I started didn’t go as planned.

I was working on powering a device from a different voltage source, and I thought it would be straightforward, just get a converter, connect it, and it works. But once I actually tried it, the output wasn’t as stable as I expected. Sometimes it worked fine, other times it fluctuated enough to cause issues.

That’s when I realized I don’t really understand what makes one DC/DC converter behave differently from another.

I started reading more and saw people talking about efficiency, ripple, heat, and load handling, which all seem important but also a bit overwhelming at first. What confused me more is how similar many of these converters look, even though their performance can be very different in real use.

In a few discussions, I also noticed people mentioning sourcing differences, including platforms like Alibaba, especially when comparing how DC/DC converters can vary depending on internal components and build quality. That made me realize there’s probably more going on inside these than I assumed.

So I wanted to ask, what should someone new actually focus on when choosing a DC/DC converter for a small project?

Is it mainly about matching voltage and current ratings, or are there other factors that matter just as much in practice?

I’m still learning how all of this works, so I’d really appreciate any guidance from people who’ve worked with these before.

Tried 4 AI video editing tools none of them perfect !

Testing AI editing tools for the past few weeks because I was tired of guessing which ones are actually useful and which ones are just hype.

Here is what I found

Descript — Powerful but honestly feels like overkill if you just want quick edits

Kapwing — Clean interface but the AI features feel more like extras than the main thing

Captions — Does captions really well but that's about where it stops

NemoVideo — Chat based editing which is different from everything else. you just type what you want done and it handles it but the free plan only gives 3 exports which gets annoying fast

All four are free to start which is good for testing. But none of them are perfect and they all have gaps depending on what kind of content you make.

If you do high volume content and need to move fast any of these beat editing everything manually. But the learning curve is real for all of them and it takes a few sessions before things start feeling smooth.

Still testing and will probably switch things up as I go.

Are user reviews actually useful for comparing comfort in men’s khakis?

A couple of days before, I was browsing through various khaki collections of men and I noticed how many humans consult with user reviews before purchasing. Initially, I believed that there would be minimal differences between brands in khaki, but reviews indicate that the comfort, softness of the fabrics, and flexibility are very different.

In my research, people tend to evaluate khakis according to the level of stretch, fabric weight, and type of fit such as slim, regular, or relaxed. There are those who feel comfortable with lightweight stretch khakis to wear all day, and those who feel that heavier cotton twill is more structured. The real buyers also state that some brands can be run tighter or looser than anticipated, which influences the comfort.

Browing through the various selections, including those available in Alibaba, I also realized the customer rating and customer response where customers give their experience of being comfortable after using the product.

I have heard that user reviews are among the top methods to make comparisons in terms of comfort before purchasing.

It is only experimenting but with genuine responses, it is much easier to select the right khakis.

iOS 26.5 somehow locked me out of my own phone

I updated my iPhone 13 Pro last night before bed, nothing unusual, just hit install and let it do its thing overnight. Woke up this morning, grabbed my phone, and... Activation Lock screen. Asking me to enter an Apple ID like it belongs to someone else.

The weird part is this has literally always been my phone. Bought it new myself a couple years ago, same Apple ID the whole time, never sold it or anything.

Now it keeps saying the iPhone is linked to an Apple ID but won’t let me get past the screen even when I enter my own account info. I’m honestly so confused right now.

I always thought Activation Lock was only for lost/stolen phones or used phones people forgot to remove from iCloud. Didn’t even know an update could somehow trigger this.

Kinda freaking out because basically my whole life is on this phone lol. Photos, work stuff, apps, everything.

Please tell me I’m not the only one this happened to.
