This time it was actually the lab's fault! This story will have a happy ending for whoever's film I was sent, though.

Maybe this post caused a butterfly effect (my condolences, by the way u/LandySam11 and get well very soon).

The lab accidentally sent me someone else's roll of a lovely vacation to what looks like the Canal Boat Tour area in Amsterdam instead of my humdrum roll of street photography in the USA.

I am sending this film back to them ASAP so it can go to its rightful owner. I do wonder if this was common in film's heyday given how much volume labs went through with tight turnaround times. Have you ever had a lab send you somebody else's roll before? I understand mistakes happen - we are all human.

I feel like going to Amsterdam now.

Note: If you made it this far, the Pentax 6x7 MLU has nothing to do with this...I am just loving the handle I 3D printed for it. Give it a try.

How satisfied are you with your NONs Instax Square back for the Mamiya RB67?

What drives you crazy about using the NONs Instax Square back? Are you satisfied with the accuracy of the plane of focus? I noticed many NONs sample frames look soft. Is the battery life satisfactory? How well does the darkslide work? Are any of the competitor brands much better in your opinion?

I am deciding between purchasing the NONs back or taking a couple weeks to build a DIY version of an Instax Square back with STLs and instructions available online. I already built an Instax Mini version with instructions so I know it is doable.

I asked for help with a common cable release problem and u/Excalibur-Umbra delivered. I recommend you print a few and stick them in your bag my fellow tripod haulers. I will place context, details, and links in a comment. The license is Non-Commerical 4.0 International.

Are the 3D printed folding waist level viewfinders with loupes a decent replacement for the original in your experience?

I mean the ones that seem to be essentially the same design in all but materials. They collapse and rise in the same way.

What orientation did you use on your print bed for this Pentax 6x7 grip STL?

Edit (07/19/2026): Nevermind - I worked it out!

I am sure some of you printed this right hand grip for the Pentax 6x7 by user simonpw. The description in the print details confused me. Unfortunately, it looks like the author has not been on back to the Thingiverse since 2018. Do you have a picture of the final print sitting untouched on the bed? I want to see the orientation you used.

Are spots like these normal in White Bread? Or will I end up featured on Chubbyemu?

I opened a fresh pack and noticed this for the first time. I checked and slices all the way through have similar brown patches. Has white bread always been like this?

It does not 'look' like mold to me. I assume that this could be some sort of natural discoloration and fine to eat.

Are canned sardines refrigerated in transit? Do they need to be kept in the refrigerator after delivery if they are?

This was a first for me. I received a cold load of cans with condensation on the outside due to the summer heat. I am wondering if they need to be kept refrigerated to stay food safe.

I assumed that canned sardines were shipped in ambient temperature. Maybe one of you work at a grocery store and happen to know if they're trucked in cold.

My best guess is that I will live if the cans do not swell.

Help needed: Determining 'SFW-XL' film developing process based on the canister style and any user experiences/samples welcome.

I am testing a salvaged camera for someone. This is the film inside. I see 'SFW-XL Seattle Film.' There is one frame left on the roll.

I found a Wikipedia description and a Reddit post that I will read through in detail later. I am wondering how exactly to confirm if it this is C-41 or not because my quick skim shows that Seattle Film respooled ECN-2.

I've developed ECN-2 on my own before. I am unsure how old the roll is so if you have suggestions for development time adjustments based years aged then please let me know. I will try to determine the roll's age after I expose the final frame.

Update June 16, 2026: I added pictures of the film roll in response to a comment below. I decided to make the final frame a blank because the condition of the roll is uncertain.

Do any of you work for FedEx? I wonder if they CT scan film packages shipped domestically and respect the Kodak X-Ray sticker.

My question applies to the USA.

I used the Kodak sticker. However, I do wonder if FedEx cares much about that.

Kodak suggests you tell the carrier you're shipping undeveloped film. Based on my chat with FedEx staff at a particular location, there is not some sort of 'note' attached to you package aside from the sticker if you choose to add one. Maybe one of you happen to have more specific knowledge about this thanks to working at a lab or dealing with a mishap?

Have any of you been using the Filmomat for over a year?

I would like to ask some specific questions about your experience with it. I have not come across many owners. Are you happy with your purchase?

I pushed Ilford XP2 Super to ISO 3200 although the data sheet says that is naughty.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. I was at a concert yesterday and I determined that at ISO 3200 I barely had enough light to get usable frames.

Unfortunately, I read this in Ilford's data sheet after I already rated a 120 roll at ISO 3200.

💀

I went ahead and pushed the roll two stops in development because I found this claim that Ilford has been telling a white lie all along. The negatives are hanging to dry right now. So far, they look the way I expected. I can post a cleaned up scan in a week or two when I have the time if anyone is interested.

Here are a few more posts about pushing Ilford XP2 that I referenced while my chemistry was warming up: 123.

P.s.: If you were at the Covet show yesterday and you caught me in the background taking pictures with a camera upside down, please message me. I went solo and forgot to take a selfie at the venue for memories.

P.s.s.: if Ilford is reading this...what is your opinion on the comment in my first link?

What is an emotionally intelligent response if a model reaches out because he or she would like to be paid to collaborate with you (the photographer) if you are not excited about working with them for a price?

This is for situations where I was not the first to message the individual although I may have advertised that I am looking for a model.

I can't help but feel that any response at all is base and selfish no matter how you dress it up. However, ghosting someone is also impolite. In my case, taking photographs is not 'free' because I use an analog workflow. Every frame costs me money and quite a lot of time to from click to print.

This question only applies to working with strangers. Cost is not a factor for my friends or family, and I am always excited to capture them on film.

I just did the latest software update for Silverfast that was intended to fix bugs and now the colors in the Workflow Pilot fail to match the export. Instead, I am getting JJBA style colors. You may want to delay your update.

I wish I followed my instinct and screenshot the update prompt to ask about it here before going through with it. Silverfast has been crashing often lately. That is why I updated.

My guess is the fix will be simple enough. This might spare you the trouble.

I ran into someone with hundreds of feet of 16mm movies and several boxes of 120 slides produced by his late father. His father was a professional musician and sculptor. Toss an upvote, and maybe this post will help convince him to put together something showing the 'best' of the work.

Pictured: Kodak 120 slide film dated 1964. I tried to adjust the image to reduce the red tint present after years of aging. The subject is unknown. He states that his father used a TLR.

I have been reading a biography about Vivian Maier, so this encounter was a pleasant surprise. We chatted for a while as he dropped off a motherload of film to get scanned. I explained the basics about Vivian, looked at a few of his slides, and listened as he talked about his father's history. I cannot tell you if his archive is as extensive and collectible as Vivian's; however, I am sure that there is much there to interest some of you who are curious to take a glimpse into the past. Inspiration can appear in the strangest places.

Each slide held impressive detail despite the color shifts likely caused by years of aging and possibly unarchival storage. The image above still has the creamy transitions from light to dark and the sharpness of a high-resolution medium-format lens. I can feel my wallet itching for Provia again. I do wonder if Kodak will ever return to processing still film someday.

Hopefully, this post has enough 'film' and 'community' for the moderators. I am fresh off my three-day ban for posting about the disappointment of losing contact with a fellow photographer because this sub 'doesn't allow searching for lost connections.' Let's see if it accepts sharing our new ones.

Here's to documenting the world as we see it. 📸

Some unfortunate news. I took a film photograph of a film photographer on a film camera with expired film (pictured) and had the negatives developed at a film lab in film chemistry, but I lost contact with the subject before I could share the results. Has this ever happened to you? Pretty negative.
