My husband died in 2024. I'm still carrying the grief.

My husband died in 2024. I'm still carrying the grief, the responsibilities, and the financial burdens that were left behind.

We had taken out personal loans during a difficult period when he wasn't able to work consistently. Some of that money went toward basic living expenses and trying to improve his job prospects. After he died, I was left trying to keep everything going on my own.

I've continued working and paying what I can, but I'm still struggling with the debt. Some days it feels like I'm trying to rebuild my life while still carrying the weight of everything that happened before.

I'm not posting this to ask anyone for money here, because I understand that's against the rules. I suppose I'm just looking for somewhere to tell my story and perhaps hear from other people who've had to rebuild their lives after losing someone.

I'm trying to find a way forward. I just haven't found it yet.

I Lost My Husband. The Debt Stayed.

I’m asking for help after losing my husband.

My husband and I were together for 10 years. After he became ill and eventually passed away, I was left dealing with the personal loans we had taken out while we were struggling financially.

I’m still working and I'm still paying what I can, but the remaining debt has now become more than I can realistically manage on my own.

I’ve started a fundraising campaign to try to settle these debts and get myself back to a stable financial position.

I know there are many people asking for help online, and I understand why people are cautious. I'm not asking anyone to donate if they aren't comfortable doing so.

Even sharing this with someone who might be willing to help would mean a lot to me.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Fundraiser by Chantel Fourie | Help Chantel Rebuild After Losing Her Husband

Hi everyone. This is one of the hardest posts I've ever had to make.

I'm from South Africa, and after losing my husband, I've been left trying to manage the personal loans we took out while he was unemployed and later became seriously ill. We didn't take those loans for luxuries.

They helped us keep a roof over our heads, cover essential living expenses, and pay for his Code 10 licence and truck driver authorization so he could improve his chances of finding stable work. We genuinely believed we were building a better future together.

When he passed away, that future disappeared overnight, but the debt remained. I've continued working and paying what I can every month because I believe in honouring my responsibilities.

Even so, I'm struggling to get out from under the remaining debt on my own. I've started a WhyDonate campaign in the hope of reducing these loans and giving myself a chance to rebuild my life after losing the man I loved.

If donations aren't allowed here, I completely understand. Even advice, kind words, or suggestions about safe places to share my campaign would mean the world to me.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story.

Those loans were used to cover essential living expenses, help him obtain his Code 10 licence and truck driver authorization so he could improve his job prospects, and deal with other necessary expenses as we tried to get through a difficult time.

Since he passed away, I've continued working and paying what I can, but I'm struggling to get out from under the remaining debt on my own.

I've started a GoFundMe in the hope of reducing these loans and getting back to financial stability. If donations aren't allowed here, I completely understand. Even advice, kind words, or suggestions for places where I can safely share my campaign would mean a lot to me.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
