Final Days of Fairlane Village Mall as a mall (Pottsville Pa)

Submission statement:

The title needs some explanation. Fairlane Village Mall will still remain in the coming months but no longer as a fully enclosed mall. Current management is moving forward to demall the remaining northern concourse for a potential tenant to take the space. The order was given to remaining tenants in the section between Boscov's and Dunhams to vacate some time around march. Dollar tree will remain to my knowledge as they have an exterior only entrance. Not sure when this section will close. No one is left otherwise.

I've been stopping by this mall for the past year and it's kind of shocking to see it go out this fast despite it doing okay as a partial strip mall like the neighboring Cressona mall. It was a nice place

Final Days of Fairlane Village Mall (Pottsville, PA) 5-11-26

It's looking like Fairlane Village Mall management is looking to demalling the remaining northern section of the mall as all the remaining inline tenants were told to vacate as of a couple months ago (according to a former tenant). As of right now, I don't know who is going to move in if that is the case. I don't know when they're going to close. What I can say is that only Boscov's has an open interior entrance. You can still walk around the northern section for now.

Last mall of the day and didn't have much time to get photos. I'll have to come back for more and a video run if possible.

Decided to stop on by and do a scouting run here and found this place in decent shape. Wasn't able to get photos of the former JCPenney as a couple locals were painting a mural at the former entrance today. I'll be back again to document the final result as it looked really nice. There are some empty spots but overall, the middle section to the former JCPenney was fairly occupied. Not many people in today but would still want to come back here for another 70s gem.

Not much has changed here since my last visit other than the fountain was off this time. Decided to recreate some shots and see how the place was doing and to get a slice at Towne Pizza. Couldn't get photos of the former Sears as there were a lot of people hanging around the space that now houses Family Dollar and Dollar Tree. Overall not much has changed. Weather was much more co-operative and managed to run a gopro for a change.

Tbh I still hold the opinion that this has to be one of the most if not most unique mall in PA. You don't really see any mall like it anywhere else. The closest I could find is a farmers market near Garnet Valley in Delco.

First Ohio mall I've done. There isn't much to this place as it's a baby mall that's more of a truck stop but in mall form with plenty of gas pumps. There's a restaurant, two arcades, a chapel (not pictured as there were people in there), a couple other shops, and a bar I think?

I still feel like it's worth posting photos of dead malls across the country at this point to show the changing tides of the economy and how the state of malls seem to overall get worse for one reason or another. Could be Namdar and Kohan refusing basic maintenance for cost saving measures. Could just be Simon refusing to adapt and sticking to a model that isn't working or compatible with everything right now. Olean Center is following the lines of Abrams with Exton Square Mall. The current owner (a developer) has owned the property since 2021 and wants to redevelop the property but is also no longer maintaining the mall. There is only one tenant inside the mall proper, Kay Jeweler. Kohl's and JCPenney sealed off their indoor entrances. There is no final day set but the owner is trying to force eminent domain to finally get redevelopment started if it even does. This mall could be gone within the year if things go to plan
