I just bought a arduino uno super beginner kit, and i'm enjoying my time with it. I like to be able to create small circuits, with or without code logic in them.

At the same time, i feel like i'm too far from the hardware, and i'd like to talk more closely to registers, and to understand the "bare metal" way of doing things.

With a little research, i found out that the alternative to arduino IDE is the avr toolchain, and i could use the datasheet to figure out what to write in which register.

Would the struggle be worth it? I'm exited to try because one day i'd like to work with embedded programming (right now i'm studing computer engineering but maybe next year i'll go to electrical eng)

EDIT:

Also, what project could i do for the "bare metal approach"? Chatgpt says a MIDI interface would be fun, and i agree, but i'm open to new ideas
