How bout multimillionaires? How bout 8 inches, and thick?
Found this one today and the groove on this record is awesome.
This is the OG green label and man oh man does it ever sound good. RVG and the boys cooked on this one. Got it for 50 bucks (CAD) and it was still in shrink. All around VG+ and plays very clean!
Stephen if you’re here, please make yourself known. You will not regret it.
I’m working on a project right now that’s for a YouTuber and it’s 5+ hours long. I’m working on an M1 Mac and so exporting this video to 4k will take a while. Usually I clock out when I hit render, but this one will tie my machine up for a while and I won’t be able to jump to another project while I’m waiting for it. I’m curious if editors here are charging clients for the time it takes to render projects?
Hope this question is allowed! Thanks!
So much cool music from this label from this era and a lot of the albums are still pretty affordable for OG copies (though some are climbing for sure like Red Clay). I’d say a lot of the music can be hit or miss, but when they hit they hit hard and there is generally gonna be at least one banger if not more per album. The lineups are always so great too.
What’s YOUR favorite CTI album?
(Also I chose not to include my KUDU records but I have a few and have a lot of love for KUDU as well. Maybe I’ll do a KUDU post next…)
Pressing info: The Joe Farrell is a 70’s Japanese re press and has Buster Williams on it and it’s sick as hell!
Freddie Hubbard Straight Life which is a pure pleasure analogue re issue.
Crying song Hubert laws is a 70’s Canada re issue (incredible underrated album imo)
The rest are US or Canada OG pressings.
Had to order this one on Discogs cuz I just can’t bring myself to lineup for RSD and I think only one of my local shops got this one in for RSD and they only had like 3 copies. A friend of mine got one, and saw someone else buy the other 2 😤 But honestly, all the jazz releases for RSD made me 🥱 (especially those dumb overhyped Coltrane tapes lol) but I discovered this album a few months ago and at the time looked to see if it had had a AAA re issue and happened to see them that it was getting a AAA re issue for RSD so had to grab a copy. So glad I did too. I really wish all jazz re issues could be done as well as this.
The music is incredible, iykyk and if you don’t check it out for sure. Funky and unique and groovy, I love bassists albums so much. The vinyl is flat and quiet, the AAA mastering is really well done with nice wide sound stage, and the packaging is really proper. Honestly I give massive respect to the label for the inner sleeve it comes in - one of the mofi style rice paper and poly sleeves. I use these for all of my records and it’s nice not to have to replace an inner every once in a while! (I really don’t understand why more releases don’t just use these or why they haven’t become the standard…)
Anyway, cool album, I’m stoked to own it. Grab one if you see it!
Pressings info from left to right:
Moonshade - the Roger Webb sound
Really cool funky music designed for film and television, awesome instrumentation with vocals too. modern re issue from Be With Records - sounds beautiful
The Nucleus - Galt Macdermot
Incredible funky breaks from the great Bernard Purdie - similar vibe to moonshade but less score like. Both of these albums remind me of david axelrod which is a genre I really fuck with. This is a now and again AAA re issue that I found brand new for about 25 bucks on sale at a local shop recently.
Soren skov orbit - spiritual kinda funky interesting contemporary jazz. Some proper bangers on this one.
MMW - Tonic
Recent blue note classics re issue (?) - first time pressed on vinyl. An incredible document of jazz music, this one. Glad to add it to my collection of MMW albums. Been enjoying their music since high school (so a long time…)
Sun Ra - Lanquidity
Strut 25th anniversary special edition. Not AAA but I’m finding strut does a beautiful job re issuing some of these older cool obscure-ish jazz albums and they do it well. This one sounds great. Flat and quiet. Such cool music. My first Sun Ra album and certainly won’t be my last.
Leroy Vinnegar - glass of water
Awesome Rhodes heavy smooth and groovy funk jazz. Was a recommendation from discogs.
2024 On High Records re issue, first and only re issue sounds great to my ears! Don’t think it’s AAA but I’ve got nothing to compare it to.
Miles Davis - Live Evil and Dark Magus
Live Evil is an Obi’less Japanese OG copy that I got to upgrade my beat up old Canadian version. The sound is honestly night and day. And it’s minty, a beautiful copy.
Dark magus MOFI I found on sale locally for 25 percent off and couldn’t resist scooping it. Such a vibe. Can really hear Miles’ anguish in this recording.
JJ Whitefield & Forced Meditation - The Infinity of Nothingness
Always on the lookout for beautiful contemporary spiritual jazz that sounds like it was recorded in the 70’s and this is one of those records. Haven’t spun the whole thing yet but what I’ve heard I’ve liked! Fans of phipsonics or organic pulse ensemble will likely enjoy.
Green Cosmos - Abendmusiken
2025 Fredriksberg Records re issue of this rare cosmic journey. Shout out fewkaleidascope for inspiring me to scoop this one. Recently bought the people’s people present the spirit of david from this label and they do a beautiful job with these private pressed rarity re issues!
Always open to recommendations from this community based on what I post! Cheers y’all xo
