Head shape concerns? Possible to fit bike helmet?

Head shape concerns? Possible to fit bike helmet?

Hi, my baby had cranial vault surgery at 7 months old, and we are now 6 months post-op. I wasn’t quite prepared for how much bigger their head would be after - they fit 12-18 month clothes but everything has to be button-up because their head size is more like 3T-4T.

I notice two prominent bulges along the middle when looking top-down, and one seems larger than the other. I have been wondering how expected that is or whether I should be concerned. Did anyone else’s baby look this way?

They have also shown interest in riding/being pushed on a tricycle and I want to give them that chance, but it seems like a good idea to fit them with a proper helmet so it becomes habit. But this head shape still seems irregular to me and I am worried the foam padding would need to be thicker around the front. Has anyone done it? Do you have advice?

Did a pacifier ruin sleep

My baby is almost 14 months and has been going to daycare for a month now. The daycare person gave my baby a pacifier to sleep and it seemed to be a big hit so I started giving one at home at night too. I have been trying to keep it in the crib only to prevent teeth issues and make it easier to stop using later. But now it seems like baby can’t sleep without one, or without being a barnacle baby (we would usually cosleep for the last couple hours to have milk only once a day, we are almost weaned). They have really upset crying fits now in the middle of the night, I think because there soother fell out or is not in my bed with us where it would get lost. Help, what have i done?? Should i remove soothers entirely? Remove the bed sharing part of the night and fully wean?

Struggling with tantrums at 12 months

I feel like I am failing my baby already. I am a first time parent and a single parent. I have spent so much time learning how to deal with tantrums with toddlers or older, but they started showing up with my baby by ten months old. They don’t yet have the words to use all the techniques I have been learning for 2-5 year old meltdowns. I am at a loss about what to do.

A tantrum with my baby is so far always caused by wanting to see or play with something that isn’t safe and has to be taken away; or it’s time to go do something else and I need to break focus; or simply that they don’t want to lie back so I can put on a diaper because they would rather be sitting up playing.

The tantrum looks like crying angrily, flopping back onto the floor/table, stomping feet and arching their back, and can sometimes go on for several minutes. Most of the time, the only thing that works to stop it is to give them back access to the thing that was taken away (do not want this to be the answer!!) or find something equally interesting and distracting by carrying them screaming to a different place - but if they don’t have their diaper on and we’re in the middle of all that, it’s not possible and sometimes they’re even stomping in the dirty diaper which is the worst case.

I have tried things like being calm, providing pressure of my hand on their chest, blowing gently in their face, just riding it out… I am at a loss. If this is what it’s already like, I feel so unequipped. Am I just ruining our trust already?

Baby uncomfortable/fussing for second half of night, every night

Baby is just about 12 months old and we’ve improved sleep quite a bit after a major disruption, but need to improve some still. I am trying to figure out what might be causing wakeups and unrestful sleep in the second half of the night.

Baby falls asleep independently in 5-10 minutes for naps and at bedtime with little to no fuss.

We were down to 1 nap only for a few weeks, but this past week she seems extra tired in the late afternoon so we are back at about 3.5/4/3.5 with the morning nap about 1-1.5 hrs and afternoon nap usually about only 30 mins. Wakeup is 8, bedtime is around 8:30-9:30 depending on if they had one nap or two.

Baby sleeps great for the first 5-6 hours. Then they wake up crying, fussing, acting absolutely exhausted and squishing eyes closed, acting miserable around 3 am. Sometimes it turns into acting really angry, the way you’d expect a tired baby to act if they were playing with something unsafe and you had to take it away.

My attempts to comfort them don’t seem to help much. So instead of intervening with little success, one morning as an experiment I left them fussing in this half asleep state and they kept at it on and off (mostly on) from 5:30-7, when they finally fell back asleep for another hour. So I think this is also what is happening while I am half asleep and trying/failing to comfort them. No wonder I am exhausted.

Is athis discomfort? If it’s not enough awake time, where should I be trimming sleep? Baby is really exhausted come nap time so I hesitate to take it from there. What else could be going on? I am exhausted.

How to get a response from the company for faulty machine

I am so frustrated with this company and their finicky, unreliable machine combined with terrible customer service. I sent the email below on June 5 and have received no response, other than the automatic reply with a complaint number and a request not to follow up because it could apparently delay their response time. Any advice for how to get through? Or should I just give up on this company altogether? This has been going on for two years now.

Hello,

I purchased a Plus Life machine that I received in October of 2024. I am replying to a previous email about a complaint with the machine that I made in December 2024 that was never resolved.

Right away, my machine was unreliable and began producing invalid tests often - usually 2-3 invalid tests per box of 10. As the service complaint was never rectified above and I was using the tests infrequently, I continued to use the machine even though it was frustrating and wasteful. I have since met several people who purchased machines at around the same time as myself who never had such issues. I have tried a variety of power sources that should work according to their specifications for 3amps, as well as plugging into the wall.

In October 2025, I purchased a new cable for the machine, because a friend told me that other Pluslife machine users whose machines were fabricated at the same time as mine had issues with their power cables. This did improve the frequency of invalid results for some time. Unfortunately I think after a year of use with a faulty cable, the machine was damaged beyond repair. As of April 2026, the machine only produces invalid results. The service life of the machine was meant to be until July 2026.

I have tested my power sources and tests with other machines, which work fine.

I am very disappointed to have spent so much money on a faulty machine and so many invalid tests. I wish that the service request I had made at the very beginning was listened to. I have a young baby that will be needing to start daycare soon, and I wish that I could have the tests to help keep her safe in her first year of life.

If there is a possibility to provide me with a discount on a new machine I would be very appreciative.

The machine I purchased is as follows:
Model: PM001
SN: redacted
MFG: 2024-07-10

I have attached an image of the most recent invalid test. I am happy to provide previous ones as well.

Green growth on 2x4s on cement basement floor

Fun colour! Don’t think I want it in my house, though! What the heck is this? And is this a reason to not purchase the house? It covers probably 8-10 board feet in this basement that was supposedly totally gutted after a sewage backup, then these studs put in for walls that were never finished.

Correct bad manners with fetch

My border collie’s outside job is fetch with a ball. She loves it, unsurprisingly. She’s very devoted to her flock and rarely lets them run off. No complaints, except - sometimes when you go to take the ball and throw it again, she lunges dramatically forward to snap up the ball again. This isn’t aggressive or possessive. She never does this to another dog taking her ball, only a human that she has been playing with already. She seems to want you to throw it but it’s like something short circuits and she is compelled to snatch it even though she actually wants it thrown.

She’s never done this when playing with new people or small children- she drops the ball, lets it roll ahead of her, lies down in the classic border way, and then eagerly runs the 4 feet or whatever the managed to throw. .(don’t worry, only extremely supervised and controlled setting). But the random quick grab seems to be getting worse and I am not quite sure how to intervene. Sometimes I will manage to snag her before she jerks away and use the “drop” command but she has a really hard time hearing it when she’s in this mode, and she drops it again immediately anyway asking for another throw.

Share your bedtime/naptime successes, trials, tribulations?

How to gentle parent at bedtime seems to be a common theme, but most posts about sleep have few comments other than solidarity. I wondered if this approach might be helpful to folks:
What’s worked for you?
What didn’t work?
What have you tried for sleep and how was your experience?

How to handle many changing schedule interruptions

Me again 😅 I searched the group for this question and saw a lot of answers for one-offs but not when schedule interruption is the norm. I have a baby with a lot of medical needs and that means a lot of doctors appointments that are all over the place timewise. I am wondering how people manage to have a “consistent” schedule when there’s no way to have consistency day to day? Since birth my baby seems to have slightly lower sleep needs and has resisted napping (rarely longer than 40 minutes).

Seeking morale and stories from others who have had busy erratic schedules!

Baby with longstanding pain wakes frequently- help with soothing?

Trying this again with a lot less details because i am honestly not understanding what caused my last attempt to be deleted but i really need help even after reading the rules multiple times. If any mods want to explain i would appreciate it

My baby used to sleep like a dream but then got surgery and nothing has been the same since. First it was expected to wake often from surgery recovery, like every 30-60 minutes, but recovery started dragging on and getting worse again. I realized it was probably teeth. In the past 3 months since the surgery, baby has popped out 6 new teeth (8 total), with it seems like two more coming now. At only 10 months old this is pretty precocious

I am at my wits end and need help getting baby to sleep longer. At the moment they wake up screaming in pain usually every hour or two. Infant pain meds help but don’t cure it. It’s been three months of extreme sleep interruption and i am so worn out.

Schedule changes frequently depending on how the night went but it’s usually something like
Bed at 8:30
Sleeping on and off until 8:30 am
20-40 minute nap around noon (they wake up on their own)
20-40 minute nap around 5

Help with sleeping longer durations- pain and 10 months old

Tips on sleep and pain (10mo)

(Please read in full before offering advice)
Starting to try to help my 10 month old sleep independently. The past 3 months have been absolutely brutal- first, recovering from a full cranial reconstruction where, due to pain and swelling, bb often woke every 30 mins to 1 hour crying. When recovery did not continue on track, I realized that this poor thing was working on so many teeth. Now, three months later, there have been 2-3 times where I slept for four hours straight, but mostly it’s every 1-2 hours waking up crying. At 10 months old, all 8 of the first wave of teeth have already broken through the gums, and I am terrified to say that it seems like the next two upper ones might also be on the way very early. My exhaustion level is at a breaking point. Do you have any tips or advice for me to slowly increase independent or longer sleep periods?

More info:
\-bb goes to bed in a crib next to my bed, but does usually sleep a little better next to me. Usually by midnight or 1 am, bb comes into my bed for a quicker re-settle, but I do not rest well at all while we co-sleep
\-bb usually goes to sleep between 8-9 pm, which is much better than it used to be (11pm-1 am)
\-it usually takes 30-60 minutes for them to settle in the crib, with me reading my book and rubbing their belly and a nursery song stuffy, or sometimes falls asleep nursing
\-bb naps twice a day for 20-40 minutes each, sometimes falling asleep in the crib using the above method. Sometimes nursing to sleep
\-for the past few weeks I can tell that there is tooth pain so I dose Tylenol or Motrin before bed. Often I will re-dose Tylenol during the night, since we are waking up so often as it runs out. Usually it’s not used in the day
\-nighttime wakeups are usually going from full sleep to full screaming like a switch was flicked. Sometimes it’s just waking up and fussing, and a couple times bb has gone back to sleep in the crib from me singing a familiar lullaby. But usually if in the crib, the fussing goes to a full howling/panic cry within five minutes if I don’t get up

Help??! I am a single parent and we live in an open concept one bedroom with no couch, so any type of cry-it-out won’t work. I have kind of tried it a little bit, but by 5 minutes the crying was panicked and hysterical and accompanied with hyperventilating/panic attack-like behaviour, which bb sometimes also displays since the surgery with medical staff or in pain cycles.

i wish co sleeping permanently felt like an option but I am always extremely sore in the morning, don’t sleep well at all, and I am always scared my very cuddly large cat is going to come lie on the baby. There are some gross motor delays so bb still isn’t able to roll independently and I worry about us co sleeping being unsafe even though I have done my best for the safe 7

P.s. i have consulted every medical professional I can find about the longstanding pain, and no one has anything substantive to offer

How to sleep through the night - 9months

I am slowly coping less and less from lack of sleep. My baby is 9 months now… they used to sleep for 6-8 hour stretches in their bassinet, wake up for a quick feed, sleep again. I am starting to wonder if some of that was due to independence from bottle feeding - we had a really rough start and they didn’t start breastfeeding meaningfully until 5 months old.

They had a huge surgery at 7.5 months old- cranial reconstruction. I haven’t slept since. The surgeons say it’s not surgery-pain related and they’re healing great. They started teething 8 days post op which has been brutal - tylenol helps. But the biggest change is that now baby wants to nurse so often during the night that I can’t get any decent sleep. It’s hard to tell when it’s pain-related and needs a dose of Tylenol vs just comfort related. They seem to have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep during the day for naps, too.

I am slowly losing my mind. I have started gently trying to retrain them to sleep more in the crib (we share a room) but it’s definitely worse right now than just letting them perpetually breastfeed.

What works? How do you gently train a baby to sleep for longer periods and reduce reliance on nursing?

No a night nurse is not an option, nor is cry-it-out

What plug/power source do you use?

I have been having power/connectivity issues and want to get something entirely new that is tested and true.

I am in Canada, so need some kind of adapter or power source that can be used to make the factory-provided plug fit my outlet, or that can be used with USB

What have you been using that works? I have been trying to find power banks online but they never seem to list how many amps of power they provide, and I believe it has to be exactly 3 amps, right?
