Forty years ago, "Only The Beatles...", the Heineken cassette, was released.

Although its release wasn't planned as a regular album—"just another Beatles record"—"Only The Beatles..." was distributed with the purchase of Heineken. And if you wanted the cassette, you had to collect a certain number of can tabs.

While the promotion was successful, there was one detail that would generate legal problems with The Beatles' music (despite its official release) and halt the cassette's distribution... APPLE.

If you want to see more details about "Only The Beatles...", go to Wikipedia.

How true is this "Family Guy" joke about Sting's English? (in your opinion)

I'll keep it short. When I listen to "Walking On The Moon," I can't help but notice Sting's pronunciation in the song. And it also happened with "Don't Stand So Close To Me," but not as much anymore because now I understand a bit more of the words Sting sings.

  1. Epidemia (Cachureos)
  2. Adriano Castillo (Compadre Moncho - Los Venegas)
  3. Nicanor Parra
  4. Jorge González (Los Prisioneros)
  5. Cecilia Boloco
  6. Pedro De Validvia
  7. Antonio Vodanovic
  8. Violeta Parra
  9. Paul Vasquez (El Flaco – Dinamita Show)
  10. Coco Legrand
  11. ¿?
  12. Miguel Tapia (Los Prisioneros)
  13. Myriam Hernández
  14. Señor Lapiz (Cachureos)
  15. Felipe Camiroaga
  16. Bernardo O’Higgins
  17. ¿?

A new Monkees release is coming: Made For TV (OFFICIAL SOUNDTRACK TO SEASON 1 OF THE MONKEES)

We're halfway through 2026, and I think it's already considered the best year for Monkees releases. In January, we got "The A's, The B's & The Monkees," the definitive collection of the band's singles based on their five-year career (although they omitted "Do It In The Name Of Love"). In February, a deluxe edition of "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd." was released, containing new, previously unreleased audio and new stereo mixes (although honestly, they should have released this next year, since it's the album's 60th anniversary). At the end of May, we got a new edition of "Good Times" for its 10th anniversary. And then this comes along...
What is this? A new Monkees compilation album is coming, but this time focusing on their television series—the definitive soundtrack of the show that started it all. Since the Monkees had two seasons per recording year (1966-1967), this release will focus on the first season. So (I imagine, and God willing) the complete soundtrack will be released next year, featuring a collection of songs from the second season.

This new compilation will be released on vinyl (featuring the highlights), 2 CDs (all the songs), and a Blu-ray disc that includes 10 episodes from the first season. The Blu-ray disc will feature episodes chosen by fans and beautifully restored (as the announcement states... I imagine the episodes are taken directly from the 2016 Blu-ray box set).
As a preview of this album, the television version of "She" has been released.
The album will be available on August 14, 2026.

Personal opinion: Rhino has made the best catalog acquisition of a band in question (equivalent to Warner Music's acquisition of The Smiths' catalog). Regarding the relationship between Rhino and The Monkees, they've undoubtedly done their best (with physical editions of their TV series, some box sets, and new studio albums), but with this, they've set the bar high. After years of having the band's monaural TV mixes on box sets or deluxe releases (most of which aren't available for streaming), we're finally going to have a proper (theoretically two) album based on the series that started it all. And as a die-hard fan of the band, this release is worth having (whether on streaming or physical media). Almost every TV series I know has a soundtrack album; With The Monkees I thought it wasn't necessary, since we have their discography to enjoy, but with the arrival of "Made For TV", everything will change.

The Beatles have released a new album... compilation. What do you think about this?

Yes, the title might be a bit sensationalist, sorry for it.

This Thursday, June 25th, will be celebrated as the (official) Global Beatles Day. Apple Corps chose that day because on that same date in 1967, The Beatles performed "All You Need Is Love" on global television. I'm not going to give my opinion on "Global Beatles Day," as it's not relevant to this post (although they should have done something like this next year, 2027, since it will be the 60th anniversary of that historic event).
But the relevant point here is this: This morning, a new compilation album (in quotes) by the band was released, featuring 20 of their songs that deal with love, whether romantic or in a hippie-inspired way.

Why is this compilation in quotes? Because this album feels more like a Spotify playlist than a proper compilation album. Apple Corps has been doing this kind of thing since 2024, with certain albums called "soundtracks" that collect the songs featured in recent Disney+ documentary films (like they did with "Beatles '64" and the new anthology, although the latter is definitely noteworthy). Now, if you want to know the difference between a "real" compilation album and one that resembles a Spotify playlist, look at what they did with Queen's discography last year. I don't understand why they even thought of doing that.

But getting back to the album itself, something very curious about it is that almost all the songs on this album come from the original versions, that is, the 2009 remasters (none of the recent Giles Martin remixes, just the originals... Although I'm wondering which master they used for "From Me To You," whether it's the 2009 or the 2015 one). And something I'm grateful for is that they used the original mix of "Real Love" (thanks Apple for not including last year's remix XD).

I recreated the demo of "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" using the multitrack mogg

If you hear any scratches in the audio, I'm very sorry; I couldn't remove them. The important thing is the intention to share it.

By the way, happy summer solstice to everyone on the north coast!

The single cover of "Let Me Live", now in color

https://www.instagram.com/cristian10082004/p/DZtOCBKGwX8/

A few days ago marked the 30th anniversary of the single "Let Me Live," a song from "Made In Heaven" and one of the best ballads in their catalog.

The original single cover features a collage of four individual photos of John, Brian, Freddie, and Roger, combined into one to resemble a typical band photo, even though almost five years had passed since Freddie's death. The colors were adjusted in this photomontage, resulting in a black and white image with a greenish duotone.

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of this single's release, I wanted to share this single cover I created: I found each original photo used in that photomontage (in color, except John's picture) and recreated it. The only difference from the original is the bars displaying the text.

40 years after "The Queen Is Dead," I present the album cover, but with the title changed to "Margaret On The Guillotine."

https://www.instagram.com/cristian10082004/p/DZqLfBUG5I0/

I forgot to share this yesterday, And I know, it's nothing special the album covers that I made, but who cares?
Although the title was first revealed in a Morrissey solo song, this and "The Queen Is Dead" form part of the band's political stance against the British monarchy (although the official title originally came from a book called "Last Exit to Brooklyn," but that's beside the point).

The first image is based on the 2017 edition of the album, the second is the same but in color, and the third uses the original 1986 design.

Can someone explain to me why there are two Pauls on the right side of this image from Yellow Submarine?

I've seen Yellow Submarine many times, and I still don't understand this image. They're singing "All Together Now" on the submarine, and out of nowhere, I see this... 2 PAUL MCCARTNEY'S for no reason.
And yes, this image has been used as another piece of evidence regarding the P.I.D., but putting the legend aside, and getting serious, can someone explain to me why there are two Pauls? Is this an animation error?

"The Doors".

¿Que opinan sobre "The Kids Are Alright"?

¿Sabes que si no has visto nada no tienes opinion?

Can someone explain me what happened here and why Sting was so angry?

I imagine that by now, this community is aware of this video. And I imagine someone has asked about it before, even though nothing comes up in my search results XD.

Seriously though, can you explain what really happened in that video? What was the reason Sting insulted someone in the audience? I saw the comments on this video, but I didn't understand, and it doesn't make it clear what really happened.

A Chilean writer starring the album cover of "Louder Than Bombs"

https://www.instagram.com/p/DZV15GjIPan/

If her name doesn't ring a bell or you're unfamiliar with her, here's a brief biography:
María Luisa Bombal was a pioneering Chilean writer of contemporary narrative and a precursor of magical realism. Known for her dreamlike and avant-garde style, she explored female inner life, desire, and solitude in seminal works such as *La última niebla* (1934) and *La amortajada* (1938). She was born on June 8, 1910 (today marks the 116th anniversary of her birth), and died on May 6, 1980. Personally (as far as I can remember), I never read any of her work in school. Furthermore, I don't consider myself a great reader due to my interests. What I can say is that I discovered this writer through some memes (shitposts, to be specific), and last year, I learned that she committed a crime, which I won't recount because it's not the purpose of this post (if you're interested, go to Google it).

Now, where did this idea of putting a renowned writer from my country on the cover of "Louder Than Bombs" come from? In a community where they only talk about anything and everything related to my country (news, historical events, entertainment, etc.), I asked what old photo of Chile would be perfect for a typical Smiths cover. Someone commented with a photo of Maria Luisa Bombal, accompanied by a text that said "Louder Than Bombs"... The rest is history.

This is the photo that was used for the album cover of "Rock 'N' Roll Music."

This photo was taken in February 1964, during rehearsals for their performance on the "Ed Sullivan Show" (just as it is, without any "cheating tools" that might enhance the image quality).
It was first used for the album cover of "Second Album" (a Capitol Records album). Years later, it would be used as the basis for the album cover of "Rock n Roll Music" (an album that turns 50 today), where artist Roy Kohara recreated it using only brush and pencil, including thumbs holding the record.

If you want to know who photographed it, don't judge me, but it's unknown due to the various credits. "Second Album" credits "Black Star" and Joe Covello, but doesn't specify which photo it was taken from. Alternate versions of the photo credit Michael Ochs.

And if you're looking for the original photo in its original size (and good quality), I regret to inform you that only some alternate versions are available, so the original photo in the mentioned size isn't available.
I wanted to share a cover I made for that album with that photo in good quality, but due to certain rules this community has, I hesitated, and that's why I'm sharing the original photo.

Let's talk about "The Singles Collection" What do you think?

Between 2008 and 2010, EMI Records, in collaboration with Queen Productions, released the Queen singles collection. This collection was released with 13 singles per box set, for a total of 52 singles, divided into 4 volumes.
Unlike other compilations, such as "Greatest Hits 1-2" or "Classic Queen," this one features an international edition of the single as its cover art (For example: If the liner notes of Greatest Hits mentioned "Bohemian Rhapsody," you would see the original 1975 UK single cover; but for this collection, you would see the purple cover of the blue vinyl, released in 1977).
Coincidentally, between 2009 and 2010, Queen's relationship with EMI Records was nearing its end due to contractual reasons. As a result, certain compilation albums released by the label (such as "Absolute Greatest" and "Queen Rocks") would be removed from both the label's and the band's catalogs (including these singles box sets). Therefore, finding them now, either on streaming services or physically, is virtually impossible.

From what I've read, Greg Brooks (Queen's archivist) had envisioned this "singles collection" as a single box set (containing books and CDs), with a more comprehensive content (i.e., including singles from other countries or versions of tracks from certain singles). Who was responsible for changing this magnificent idea into what we've been sold? Two words: BRIAN MAY. Queen's guitarist rejected Greg Brooks' idea and devised what we ended up with 4 boxes with 13 singles each, but with the "special" feature of replicating each single on a single CD (technically, putting 2 or 3 tracks on a single CD takes up a lot of space, so they missed the opportunity to include certain versions of songs that have never been released on CD, such as the extended version of "One Vision" or the short version of "Liar").
Another flaw in this collection, despite what I mentioned earlier, is the omission of singles released in other countries. Like Queen and other bands, a variety of singles have been released in certain countries, some of which weren't sold in England (a prime example being "Teo Torriatte," a single exclusive to Japan but not to England).

Personal opinion: It's not a bad product, but it has its flaws. What frustrates me most is that, since this collection is out of print, some versions of certain songs (some of which I like and would like to add to my playlists) aren't available for streaming. Furthermore, with the emergence of new fans thanks to a certain 2018 film, this product will be unknown to younger generations. Considering that Queen (and Sony Music) have recently been releasing deluxe/collective editions of their albums, why not create a more complete "Singles Collection," without repeating the mistakes they made in the late 2000s, and make it available on streaming platforms?... By the way, I know we're in the age of streaming, and that releasing a compilation album these days isn't worthwhile because playlists exist, but think twice and consider this further.

So, what do you think about this?

DISCUSSION: Do you approve or disapprove of artificial intelligence colorizing black and white photos?

In recent years, artificial intelligence has become a key element of our daily lives. On the one hand, it has proven to be a very useful tool when used correctly, enabling tasks such as isolating instruments in a song or restoring old photographs. On the other hand, its ability to perform in seconds tasks that would take a human hours or days (such as musical composition or the creation of illustrations) has generated profound debates and discontent. Focusing on the latter, this creates controversy surrounding doubts about the originality of the works and the fear of job displacement in creative professions.

For the context of the following discussion, since 2020, platforms capable of colorizing black and white photos with a single click have emerged. Initially, the results were questionable, as the images often presented a "heated" or artificial tone that did not do justice to the natural colors. However, with the passage of time and the emergence of models like ChatGPT or Gemini, artificial intelligences have appeared that can colorize with surprising accuracy.

To illustrate this point, I'll ask an AI (called "evoto.ai") to colorize two photos (one in black and white, and another that was originally in color). In the first example, I'll show you a photo of The Smiths taken around 1984 (although, judging by Marr's hair, it might be from late 1983... And yes, there's an alternate shot of the same photo, but in color, it doesn't matter). The second example is from 1985, during the "Meat Is Murder" tour.

Now you can draw your own conclusions. What do you think? Do you approve or disapprove of artificial intelligence being able to colorize black and white photos?

Did anyone else notice this "error" in episode 3 of Anthology 2025?

Before I begin, I didn't edit or manipulate the video; this is how the episode clip was. And to specify the "error," it's at the 7-second mark.

Now I'll explain the error in detail: In this revamped version of Anthology, released last year by Disney+, every time the segment about their albums begins, a clip appears taken directly from the 2009 mini-documentaries, showing a kind of animation of the album cover. These segments can vary from episode to episode (if they were going to talk about "Rubber Soul," you'll see the 2009 clip upscaled to HD, or if they were going to talk about "Abbey Road," you'll see a video recreating that year's animated video), but there were some exceptions (if they get to "Sgt. Pepper," after "A Day in the Life" ends, they'll show you the same animation they used in the original 1995 version, based on the sketch to identify the characters).

Interestingly, when they talk about "A Hard Day's Night" (both the film and the album), they show you the animated album cover, also taken from the aforementioned mini-documentaries, but with the mistake of showing the video in black and white ("but the AHDN cover is black and white, and that's it!" THERE'S A BLUE BACKGROUND AND RED LETTERS). When I saw this, I felt it was a bit disrespectful, because if this is a professionally produced product, it shouldn't have any editing errors. If there are any, they should be corrected before being delivered to the consumer. That said, I didn't take it too personally since it's just a short clip, but this "error" piqued my curiosity.

I could easily end this post here, but I'd like to explain something related to what I'm talking about, since I also edit videos and always focus on the details. I want to give you the following advice: When you take a black and white video, edit it, and export it, you'll get some green spots/pixels due to the quality or bitrate of the final video. To solve this problem, go to the file where you edited the video, select the same black and white video, go to effects, and add a B/W effect. With that, those green spots/pixels won't appear in the final video. With that narrated, I come up with the theory that the editors of Anthology '25 knew about this problem, and left it unchecked.
