Dreamy jazz to atmospheric post metal. Took me long enough to set up on Bandcamp but at least my first release is one I’m quite excited about

I sat on this for a long time because it didn’t live up to up to my expectations, but after several rounds of songwriting challenges and the feedback and help from the community I learned enough to finally make it how it should be.

[COMPLETE] Hypnagogia - 2 years in the making

2 years ago I came to this sub looking for collaborators. I found a singer, and two bassists! The final singer came more recently via r/metalmusicians, and the lineup was complete.

It's probably best described as jazz inspired post metal.

[English > Sanskrit] Compound word help

At the risk of seeming like a naïve outsider I’m asking for your advice on a potential artist name as a musician.

I’ve been exploring different avenues, and one option that appeals to me is the concept of “an offering to the void”, which perfectly captures what it’s like creating music as a small artist these days.

My understanding is that it would be a combination of shunya + arpana, but I don’t know if that would work as a single compound, or what case each fragment should have to give the right meaning.

Any help would be appreciated, likewise if you think it’s a terrible idea please don’t mince your words.

Monograf - The Prophet (post metal with Norwegian folk influences. Ffo Yob, DVNE, Gåte)

Almost criminally low listener numbers if you ask me.

Chiaia - Field recording + processing

I was recently in Naples, Italy, and they have some very funky metro stations. This one in particular, Chiaia, features artwork on multiple levels depicting a descent from the heavens to the underworld. Another interesting feature is that the tunnels are so small that you can hear the trains pretty much along the entire line as this amazing background hum.
I was totally mesmerised by it and couldn’t help but record it. I took a couple recordings from different positions, and later put them together on a single track. This then got routed through various aux channels and blended into what you can hear now.
I hope some of you enjoy it :)

Doom and Dub - a natural combination?

Mixing dub and doom is something I've been wanting to try for quite a while, and the latest songwriting challenge at r/metalmusicians gave me a good excuse. The task this time was to cover a non-metal song while also utilizing at least 1 original riff.

So here we are, a kinda Slomosa-style stoner doom song with reggae vocals and some dub thrown into the mix.

I feel like it's got legs. I want to go deeper and darker, maybe closer to Bell Witch with some really gnarly tape delays and other dub-style effects.

What do you think? Is the dub/doom blend worth pursuing further?

^((No AI was used in the making of this song or video, with the exception of stem separation of the vocals))

Stoner doom and dub - double trouble?

We’re almost at the end of the current songwriting challenge, so here’s a taster from my entry. Been wanting to meddle with doom/dub as a crossover for a long time, don’t think it’ll be the last.

Any metalheads in here?

Over at r/metalmusicians we are running songwriting challenges every month or two. The latest compilation is very good if I may say so, even though I’m biased as a participant.
Open to all to join :)

A Severed Thought - Pray the Ghosts Are Friendly (FFO Wilderun, White Ward, Deafhaven)

The whole album is well worth a listen. Quite a journey touching on a variety of genres.

For me at least, having a group around me pushing me to get it done, who will listen and feed back after, and help me along the way has been a massive boost to both the joy I'm feeling with music, and pure productivity.

This month's challenge results are exceptionally strong if you ask me. If you haven't yet, it's well worth a listen.

This wasn't at all what I had planned for this month's challenge, but the song had a mind of its own. Does that happen to you?

Full song will be available soon once the challenge results are published!
