Chronic gastritis sufferer: Better digestion on vacation, worse after returning home.

I have chronic gastritis and severe duodenitis.

I just spent 7 days in Bali and honestly expected my stomach to give me trouble, but the opposite happened. During the trip I ate a wide variety of foods including fried rice, fried noodles, Indian food (paneer, butter naan, etc.), eggs, bread with butter, and hotel breakfasts. I completely avoided alcohol and caffeine.

Throughout the trip my bowel movements were normal and well-formed. No diarrhea, no constipation, and stools were consistently solid.

Yesterday I returned to India. Since coming back I've eaten fairly simple foods:

  • Breakfast: dosa and medu vada
  • Lunch: rice, dal, papad
  • Dinner: rice paneer, and 1–2 small tablespoons of ghee
  • 1table spoon fiber with water before sleep

Today my bowel movement was different. I had more gas and the stool was semi-solid rather than smooth and well-formed. This is actually similar to how my stools were before I left for Bali.

I'm trying to understand why this might be happening. Has anyone experienced better digestion while traveling and then a return of gas or looser stools after coming home, even when eating relatively bland or familiar foods?

Could differences in oils, spices, gut bacteria, water, meal timing, stress levels, or something else explain it?

Would appreciate hearing from anyone with gastritis, duodenitis, IBS, or similar digestive issues who has noticed something similar.

Currency exchange related

Hi guys,

We're traveling from India to Bali next week. Should I exchange Rupees for USD first and then USD for IDR in Bali? Or is it better to exchange Rupees directly for IDR here in India?

Also, what's the current exchange rate for 1 USD in Bali right now?

thanks in advance..

Advice, guidance needed

Hi, As I'm tapering off Vonoprazan now I'm taking it on alternative days 10mg.

Next month I'm going to Bali (Indonesia) for 2 weeks. So I need advice on how to approach this trip, what precautions I have to take? Can I start Prebiotics medicines again??

Currently I have no symptoms at all. On strict diet like no fast foods, alcohol, caffeine etc.

And following same in bali too.

If you have any experience pls let me know.

Thanks in advance 🙏

Lunch and dinner options in Kita and Ubud.

I'm traveling to Bali next month, mostly I'm having breakfast where I'm staying, so I want lunch and dinner options both veg and non veg.

As we're group of 4, two eat veg and other two non veg only. Ok with indian food as well. Also want to try local dishes as well..

Guide me over how to find good hygienic, economical hotels to eat also recommend your fav hotels etc

Thanks.

We’re 2 couples (first time traveling outside) heading to Bali and just wanted a quick sanity check on our plan. Would appreciate any suggestions, especially for our free day and if we’re missing anything important.

PS: We're going through tour agency.

Plan:

Day 1

Arrival Kuta

Day 2 –

Water sports

Uluwatu Temple

Kecak & Fire Dance show

Day 3 -

Free day (no plans yet)

Day 4 –

Sanur Port

Nusa Penida West Tour + snorkeling + lunch

Day 5 –

Handara Gate

Ulun Danu Temple

Tanah Lot Temple

Day 6 –

Arriving in Ubud

ATV ride

Day 7 –

Kintamani

Coffee plantation

Tegenungan Waterfall

Tegalalang Rice Terrace

Jungle Swing + lunch

Day 8 –

Departure

As we have day 3 as free day, open to better ideas if something is a must-do.

Are we missing anything major? Since it’s our first international trip, we don’t want to overpack the schedule but also don’t want to miss must-see experiences.

Any unique Bali experience we haven’t covered?

Any beginner tips? Since we’re new to international travel.
