A film series where the main characters repeat things like "I've always wanted to (thing)" and the movie ends without them ever doing it.

I want a deep phaser that has super long and short options for the cycle, and also the ability to stop in any part of the cycle.

Is this a pipe dream? Do I have to get a smarty pants to tell me how to diy it? It seems like if you could connect to an expression pedal that would provide the ability to stop and hold it any any point. But do phaser pedals have the ability to use an expression pedal? Apologies for being dumb.

Cool bars in walking distance to the Hyatt?

I'm working AV at The Hyatt and I don't drink so I don't know bars. The client just asked me if I knew any cool bars in walking distance. I told her The Saint but that's too far. The Rusty Nail is also too far. Any recs that aren't lame? Sazerac in the Roosevelt is alright but they're looking for a more "local" experience.

EDIT: Thanks for all the great suggestions! They flew out today so I didn't get any feedback, but I'm sure they were happy.

I'm the dummy so you don't have to be - Clearcom Freespeak headsets mute themselves when the mic is turned upwards.

I just embarrassed myself by not knowing this. I'm sure you all knew this, but just in case.

EDIT: I'm only talking about the Clear Com CC-300 branded sets.

I wish people knew how to play with cats.

Play is essential to a happy cat. But people need to learn what good play is!

People whip the wand toys around WAY too fast, all it does is frustrate the cat. The correct way is to WAVE the toy around gently and let them get it every once in a while. Let them "catch" the "prey" and mess with it. Never whip anything. If it's too fast they'll just sit there and wait for it to get close. If you're slow, you can get them to chase it around. Keep it fun, going too fast is just cruel.

Toss things in the air, don't bean em.

Don't play jumping games on hard surfaces, it could give them joint pain and arthritis later in life.

Never, ever, no matter what, play with laser pointers. If you do this, the cat could end up in a state of constant anxiety, watching for the red dot. It's also cruel because they can't ever catch them. Do not ever play with a cat with a laser pointer.

Are the comics in the "Tarzan In Color" series also in the Titan hardcovers?

They look similar but I don't have both so I can't compare. One of these days I'd like to get the Tarzan in Color set.

The one-legged biscuit pose?!

I have never seen her do this before, she's always used both front feet. I also posted to animalsbeingstrange, because wth?!! Her name is Miss Li and she's 10. 10 and 1/2 actually.

She only wants half the biscuits!

She has always used two feet as far as I've ever seen, until today. What a weirdo! Her name is Miss Li and she's 10.

A guy I met yesterday said he thinks atheists should do research on all religions before committing.

When I told him I was an atheist he immediately asked me if I studied world religions beforehand. I did actually take a few religion classes in college, so I was exposed to "Eastern" religions. He said he was raised Christian but hated it, then he learned about Hinduism and converted. Apparently in his opinion, some religions are correct.

We didn't have much time to talk about it, but it was kind of a fair point. (EDIT: it's not a fair point! Thanks for pointing that out!) Kind of like someone who hates all kinds of foods they've never tried. But no, BS is BS and I simply believe ALL religions have it wrong if they talk about divine beings. So, do I really have to study them?!

It did make me curious as to how many atheists are just rejecting Abrahamic religions compared to the others.

The Bombardier Beetle's Chemical Cannon

The bombardier beetle possesses one of nature's most advanced chemical defense mechanisms. When threatened, it contracts muscles to pump two separately stored chemicals—hydroquinone and hydrogen peroxide—into a thick-walled reaction chamber. There, they mix with the enzymes catalase and peroxidase, triggering a highly exothermic reaction that strips oxygen from the peroxide, builds immense pressure, and superheats the fluid to near 100°C. To protect its own internal tissues from the extreme heat, the beetle expels the noxious liquid (benzoquinone) in a rapid succession of microexplosions at a rate of 500 pulses per second. It then uses a flexible, turret-like nozzle at the tip of its abdomen to rotate up to 270°, spraying predators with pinpoint accuracy: https://news.mit.edu/2015/how-bombardier-beetles-produce-defensive-spray-0430

Hot take: glossy paper sux

Compared to nice matte paper, it's a whole nother thing. Constantly adjusting the page because of obscuring light reflections, and don't forget fingerprints! Lastly, it's a lot heavier. A longbox of glossy floppies is like 40 pounds (or more) heavier. Sure, they take abuse better and hold up well, but so do well-printed-on-good-paper matte comics. My 90s Fanatagraphics books, the few that were color, still look brand new. So there.
