Tactical shift question

Tactical Shift

PHB-2024, pg. 92

Whenever you activate your Second Wind with a Bonus Action, you can move up to 15 ft. without provoking Opportunity Attacks

Is the movement from this ability additional to your base movement or does take from that total movement in a round

As a player what are some ways to practice combat

I’ve spent plenty of time going over sheets and learning the rules in combat but as a newer player that only gets me so far. Going into a stressful dangerous combat in game often makes it hard to slow down and remember all my options and all the ways my character now works well with the rest of the team too. What are your recommendations to help get reps in for piloting my character in combat scenarios?

I was thinking I would just copy my character (wizard) and a fighter or something and practice combat with on a vtt solo, do adventure modules have preplanned combats? Any other ideas would be great thank you

Arti Chron 2024

Making a 2024 Level 7 Artificer/ chronurgy wizard going to level 13 for campaign.

we are using 2024 rules and books as well as any unreprinted 5e content so far the only limit is on races with perma fly speed otherwise its everything else is fair game.

I believe the rest of the table will be a pally sorc warlock and druid.

is arti2/wizX or arti1/wizX better in 2024? from what i can tell most 2014 builds take only 1 level of artificer but with magic item plans moving to level 2 I'm tempted to go arti 2 for that feature.

the table is probably only mildly optimised so in playing this I will be the most mechanically thought out character

any additional input on playing arti chron is much appreciated

Apothecary Build

Is playing an apothecary strategy wise similar to a wizard just with a bit of the blasting replaced with healing ? Build wise focusing on concentration protection for big spells and then just pumping main stat while getting something useful to do on subsequent turns?

Anyone who has played apothecary and tried to optimise it mechanically please drop your thoughts below I’m rolling one up soon thanks

Any tips for our character ideas?

A friend and I will be playing a fighter and Druid as a mounted combatant duo

Fighter 5 Battle Master

Dwarf 72 Hp

18 14 12 10 8 13 9

Mounted combatant feat at 4
Protection fighting style
Alert origin

Lance + sentinel shield or long sword + sentinel shield and some javelins

Menacing attack, riposte and Maneuvering attack

Moon Druid 5

Human 48 HP

10 16 14 10 16 10

Tough origin feat
Lucky origin feat
Sentinel feat

Primal order magician

Spells are just control and healing with my only damage being conjure animals and spike growth

I plan on mostly using dire wolf as the mount form but if there’s anything strong I might have missed let me know
Dm is letting us share our highest initiative roll so combat is smoother and we don’t have to manage the gap in our turns and the order
Thanks for any input you guys have!

Storage replacement suggestions

Currently looking to switch out most of my storage in my computer and clean up the remaining boot drive. I have a Samsung 970 evo as my boot drive since 2020 and haven’t had any problems but the older SATA ssd and hdd in my set up are starting to die. What are your picks for one or two large hdds or ssds for file storage and some video games. Most of my frequently used programs and favourite games will just go on the boot drive. Also I plan on doing a fresh install of windows when I switch out the drives are there any good resources for that process? Thanks

Any unique and fun directions to take my fighter?

Currently playing a battle master fighter and looking to this sub for any fun recommendations as I’m currently just in the loop of knock prone and wail on enemies.
Level 5 battle master fighter (precision, menacing, feinting)
Dwarf

18 10 16 10 13 8

Great weapon master and lucky

Vicious greatsword, maul and javelins

In a party with a gravity wizard, light cleric, swash rogue and battle smith artificer we will probably hit level 12 at most in the campaign but I value being powerful at all levels more than having a crazy combo later.

Please give me any of your craziest ideas to spice up my battle master! Thanks

Divine soul sorcerer pally dip

Just reached level 7 in my campaign and the DM has given me a +2 great axe that uses charisma for its attack and damage rolls, in lore it’s a great paladins retired weapon. Should I dip one level of paladin or stay straight class?

Thoughts on my one shot build?

Gnome warlock 2/ Valor bard 6

8 14 16 8 10 18

War caster
Tough

Pact of the blade, agonising blast and lessons of the first ones MI wizard for Shield

Cloak of protection, pipes of haunting and broom of flying

Half plate 17 AC

Sword and board or halberd for reach

One halberd attack and two Eldrich blasts per attack action

Spells are mostly support and control in case I don’t get a good way to fly in to halberd distance

Any way I can make this better currently it’s 3d10 + 12 per turn I believe
