I feel like doing some reading, and I’m wanting to read particularly about our mandibled boys and girls.

What are all the stories in the Halo universe that feature Sangheili in any perspective? Like Shadow of Intent features Rtas and The Return are both short stories, plus Mona Lisa, and I think I heard the Kilo-Five Trilogy has some stuff in it. Then R**endezvous with Ramen is a cute shortie with Peter the Christian Sangheili in Rio de Janeiro.

But I know there’s plenty more. I wanted some folks’ who could help me with bullet points?

I asked Google and the AI overview missed some that thankfully I know about so I know it wasn’t fully accurate. So I wanted to check a better source.

My partner and I got our son into Halo with Campaign Evolved and he absolutely adored it! We were able to play all three of us of course, but now we’re onto Halo 2 Ann. And bummer to learn there’s no way to do 3 players in base game campaign.

So I tried to look into mods. First went to look at AlphaRing but partner reported something about its recent versions having issues because of MCC updates so then suggested Nucleus Coop.

I was testing it out after installing but then I got an issue with NucCo-op forcing windows into a small frame at the center of my screen without the ability to fix it after I try to turn the game’s connection method to LAN. I tried to load base Steam MCC and I got a notification of “halo launch error createservice failed with 1072”.

I had steam verify the files, and I restarted my computer. I’m afraid anti-cheat flagged me because successful attempts to open the game just say “Error occurred when signing into Xbox Live.” If I press ‘retry’ it gets stuck in a spinning loading screen. If I cancel, it goes back to the title screen.

So if not the worry for anti-cheat, it’s also the struggle of the intricacies of making this work.

I could really use some help. I mean, worst case, we play through it with him and maybe alternate who plays with him until we get to Halo 3… I’m just sad because I was looking forward to playing Halo 2 as a family the most. And I think I’m too impatient to wait for Halo 2’s remake just to get what I want lol.

I already regret not video taping his reaction to the Mjolnier theme song. We listened to it twice and he admitted he’d have his Echo device play it more before bed. We were head banging. First time I’ve seen the little man head bang. He was air drumming and has begun to hum the theme thrice what he did when we played Halo CE 2026. I feel so proud and happy that Halo continues to win hearts even twenty-plus years later. Not that I’m surprised but I’m enjoying reliving a lot of youthful joy to share this with him. Plus my partner and I connected early on by playing the trilogy.

Sob story aside, I’m basically saying I reeaaallly wanna make this work and Halo 2 is the point where Halo goes from good to great. I’m in denial to settle for less.

I haven’t played Halo 5 just yet but I am writing a story in universe and let’s just say I did a deep dive all the same on Sangheili culture. Running into that, I read on renowned figures such as Jul ‘Mdama since we didn’t get to really know him much from Halo 4 alone.

Man, what was “bad guy Sangheili” before is now a really tragic story and my heart bleeds. He was right to be mad and heartbroken. Plus, knowing ONI not only tried to assassinate Arbiter after Arbiter was welcoming peace with humanity, but basically started the war on Sangheilios, controlling crops to kill off Sangheili…

Dude, I’m not saying I want to join a Covenant but I also cannot blame Jul ‘Mdama for trying to preserve his race. We’re really just making ourselves out to be the bad guys in universe, aren’t we? I know ONI also made our green goblin of a fellow 117 plus the rest of the Spartan program but being right once doesn’t mean always being right.

I guess my mind is trying to say that if Halo would take time to give the Sangheili internal conflicts a spotlight, it would be awesome if we had one on humanity too. Sangheili aligning with us to defeat the corruption inside our own world.

Idk, like the CIA and the conflicts of Guatemala in 1954, or Afghanistan from the 70-90’s, MKUltra of the 50’s-70’s… The ‘puppet master’ type conflicts that really piss me off from intelligence factions…

The benefit of fiction is we can see a desired outcome come to life… I’d really love for ONI to get some of their own medicine. But I guess I’m also a Sangheili-sympathizer cause I want to see humanity en masse and Sangheili en masse work together without reservations.

I once thought aliens were the antagonists of this but uncanny how it’s ONI really digging the graves… A fictional intelligence agency that’s convinced me to project my emotions — just like a real intelligence would do to its own people in real life. Yeesh. That’s not to say some Sangheili were not fated to conflict still.

Heard a theory online about how the next major installment would be cool if Arbiter and Chief got back together to defeat The Banished… That’s the kind of war I want… I mourn the fact that ONI reflects some real world history to an uncomfortable level. But I don’t hate it— because that’s just good writing. But if it’s not an alliance versus the Banished… What about the alliance versus ONI?

Which doesn’t have to be a main series installment, but a covert spec-ops game within Halo could be snazzy too maybe. Not all wars are fought with guns and grenades… Some are fought with brains and screens… ONI managed to recruit Ayit ‘Sevi… Imagine a mission impossible style game with a rag-tag team of unlikely heros trying to prevent another war from ONI or other covert ops.

I know in targeting ONI like fighting the CIA wouldn’t cause internal conflicts but look at Edward Snowden too. Imagine if ONI could be exposed for unethical approaches and Sangheili could realize humanities forces versus humanity as itself aren’t the same thing. Same reason we can say we don’t trust Russia but that doesn’t mean the Russian people are the problem— it’s the governments that we raise an eyebrow to.

Thoughts? Or do I ramble like a madman?

I downloaded Skyrim poorly translated yesterday and between yesterday and today, the subtitles are for vanilla Skyrim. I know the mod has subtitles because I’ve seen other streamers have it.

Anyone know how I can get subtitles for the dialogue or if there’s a setting/additional mod I need to make it work?

I want to make a slice-of-life Halo-universe comic featuring a human and Sangheili, but there’s not as many good references of helmetless Sangheili as I’d like— and the most helpful but armorless Sangheili full body is the one model of the Arbiter made for the Anniversary edition. Aka my main issue is not enough variety.

I wanted to commission a reference sheet for the Sangheili race, or just a non-specific Sangheili. There could be different faces and emotions, and a couple different body poses. Budget is $200 ball park but I’m also flexible.

But no, I mean legit if there’s ever been any mention of attempts?

Came to curiosity because I ran into an old post where people talked about colony worlds after the end of the Great Schism where humans and Sangheili could have occasionally tried something simply by living in proximity. But I also recently learned about a little story in Infinite where a Sangheili fell in love with Commander Sarah Palmer in Halo 5 and wrote her a poem. To which, a Unggoy intercepted him, and I believe I heard that he never ended up giving her the poem.

It made me so sad, but I’m also a hopeless romantic. But on that note, I wondered if any combos of any race had been successful or simply a record of any trying?

The end of the Schism had to have brought peace to a lot of individuals. I’d be surprised if no one had made any attempt at a connection. But that’s also the only story I’ve heard about.

My step son asked me if I’d take him fishing this summer…. Eeee!! Every fishers dream!

Anyways he’s 11 coming into 12 soon. He’s a smart kid but not very athletic so not super strong. Not weak necessarily either.

But I know what to get for myself— I don’t know what to get for his age and skill group. He’s too old/big for those little 18 inch button casting Shakespeare’s that send a bobber like ten feet away lol. I’ll teach him casting but I didn’t know if a fuller size rig could be too much weight.

Sticking with teaching him spin cast of course. Want him to get the basics down and he struggled with his attention span sometimes, so not having ti rely on constant attention works until he gets the hang of it.

His grandparents live on a bank of a river. I aim for mountain fish and trout (so we’ll start him on power-bait) but there’s also steelhead and chinook. I won’t be aiming for such a fight for him yet, but if he manages to hook one somehow, I’ll be there. But considering where I intend to take him to learn, was considering hybrid or fiberglass rods. I fully expect him to loose some hooks to tangles too, so we will need bendy rods.

Otherwise, any advice for shopping for his age/skill? I don’t mind if it’s something he can grow into but also can’t get him something too heavy. If he struggles to work it even without the fish, that’ll be on me.

Hear me out: I have keeping experience but I got rid of my snakes around COVID because the fear that I could afford to feed myself became real. I haven’t had any since.

But instead of a small breeding collection, I’ve decided if I go back in, I’ll do a couple instead. And in that case, I can afford to take on more intermediate animals because I can focus more on them.

I elaborate clearly: I would not buy the falsie for him. I’m buying the falsie for me. It would be my pet and for the viewing/limited interacting pleasure of the boy.

In the last two years, I’ve become a step mom. My partner knows I want snakes again, and indeed invites whatever small critters I want to be something that lives for a few years, because he doesn’t want the son to get an animal that he has to mourn the death of in two years… Fair.

Half of the week we have his son stay with us. He’s a VERY respectful young man, and very smart. I’m not worried about him getting into trouble or mishandling it without me knowing.

What I want to get a consensus on is if I got a False Water Cobra for myself— if it had a good personality, if I monitored its time out of the enclosure— could I justify it in my household?

Don’t think I’d go without educating him about the animal, nor would I allow interaction if its temperament was touchy. If it was in any sort of mood, that’s a boundary for just me to handle.

Complimentary: If I got myself a falsie, I’d also get another snake. One the boy can learn handling and care through. If he understands one, he’ll begin to understand the other. Plus, if the falsie is touchy, I won’t bum him out with saying ‘look but no touch’. He can have something of his own.

Again: the falsie is not a snake for him, it’s a snake for me. But I would allow him to learn about it, and if I trust the animal and his judgment, I may allow him to handle it too, under my eye.

But simply having a falsie in a household where 3-4 days a week, we have a 11 (almost 12) y/o. Is this something I’d be crazy to do or would I be okay to consider this?

I would not even bother asking if this was say, a rattler. But a falsie felt like a “liquor cabinet”: He knows where the liquor is but I trust him to not get into it, because it’s handled by adults only unless otherwise consented to.

Elden Ring has been giving me troubles. I try to start it up and it crashes. The most I’ve gotten is to the menu, but it crashes there too.

Yes checked drivers. Checked CPU. No other games or programs are having issues. Uninstalled and reinstalled, no mods (attempted to start up with one but when game gave issues, I deleted all of it and focused on just trying to fix the game.

Checking Event Viewer and it can’t elaborate better. Reverified the files many times. Like sheesh, I don’t know what to do at this point. I feel like there’s things I learned about computers and tried and it didn’t help.

Yes ray trace is off, and it’s not in 4k and starts up windowed…

It’s a doozy and I’ve exhausted everyone I know. The last resort is take it to a computer store, because I don’t want to mess so hard that I make more tangles I can’t figure out later (the whole three bugs, fix one, suddenly 200 more, and the one you tried didn’t fix anyway).

Come at me with advice or if you got tons of computer experience or a business in it. I really need the help.

Hi there! I just started Returnal this week since I heard it’s harder than Saros. I love the game but after reaching Biome 2, I do find myself frustrated sometimes when trying to learn the nuances, or how I have to navigate in Biome 1 and reach Biome 2 with metaphorical wounds still bleeding.

Reading some tips for beginners or ‘wish I knew sooner’ posts. Some have mentioned save scumming but I didn’t think that was possible in the game.

Now I know why one might not use it on this game: the arcade-like treatment is its purpose. Some might argue save scumming defeats the purpose of the game. And I don’t immediately call you wrong either for it.

More, I spent a lot of time in Biome One and to find Biome Two I still spend a lot of time in Biome One. And if I find Biome Three and so forth, I feel like save scumming could really help me not loose faith on good runs.

I wanted to ask how one can even save scum in a game that doesn’t have saves? But secondly, supposedly there’s faster paths to find the portals to biomes but I still just see random RNG. Any tips for making the transition? I greatly appreciate it!
