Daredevil Born Again Thoughts

Did not really get the appeal of Frank Miller nd David Mazzucchellis appeal in Batman Year one. But liked the way the story and art complimented each other in Daredevil Born Again.

  1. Kingpin and Daredevil story is a classic David vs Goliath type story. The art was able to partray the raw emotions of all the characters, how a corrupt conglomerate controls all sections of government.

  2. Reads like a intense action thriller with good character depth.

  3. A story of a man who looses everything and still manages to fight back.

Crossroads of Ravens Thoughts

Maybe Sapkowski's most chilled and cozy witcher novel till date.

Its works as a good origin story for Geralt with the witcher lore of Kaer Morhen explored in detail.

We see Geralt killing more monsters than he did in the entire main Saga , excpecially loved the Striga Story.

What good we do comes back is the central theme, liked Geralt's Father figure Preston Holt , would have liked to see more of Lorelai for obvious reasons.

Batman Court of Owls Thoughts

Before this the Batman stories I read were bit of a hit and miss for me with the exception of Killing Joke.

What I think Synder wanted to say:

  1. A cage match between an Owl and a Bat both birds of prey and find out the fittest survivor.

  2. A dense complicated family history , with secret societies in the mix.

  3. Present Gotham City as mystery character itself which he did with American Vampire also.

What I liked disliked:

Heart warming , Heart wrenching dialogues and the labyrinth scene was top notch.

But the story has some loose ends , I couldn't get the real goal of the Court of Owls apart from keeping assassins , killing important people.

They wanted to go after Bruce because they feared they should be exposed if Gotham is restructured.

Is controlling Gotham the ultimate goal?

First Law Blade Itself

While Devils was Fantasy on Steroids , this was more grounded and nuanced and it did somewhat live up to its hype.

Three bickering kingdoms , with a Magus in the midst to stir things up.

What I liked most is the characters, not a single boring character.

Glokta is my favorite character and he holds the story together adding the mystery and intrigue with his investigation.

Appreciate the guts of Abercrombie to tell a story from the viewpoint of various characters as lot can go wrong when a lot is unsaid and left for readers to think.

Liked reading about the characters and the world even though it felt like a setup book with big things yet to come.

American Vampire Book One Thoughts

This is what I call a banger vampire story.

Enjoyed the book more than I thought i would.

King and Synder s heartwarming dialogues ably supported by Albuquerque s misty shadowy art.

Why this book is not overhyped escapes me?

Starts off with Skinner Sweet and Pearl origin arcs , I however enjoyed Skinner Sweet arc more felt like I was watching a Western.

The book comes on it own with the Devil in the Sand story arc which is a nice mix of mystery and a unique take on a father son relationship which transcends all boundaries.

Even vampires fall in love , vampires go through crisis , vampires unsure about their futures .

Collect , consume , devour. Hype it!

Preacher Book One Thoughts

A pulpy supernatural action thriller with complex characters set in Texas not at all heart warming mostly heart wrenching to say the least with violence and blasphemy at its core.

A god forsaken world with a Preacher at the helm , an Irish vampire, hitman girl, people with weird hobbies and an antagonist for the ages form a deadly ensemble.

Hard to find any morals in this story.

Garth ennis s success lies in providing shock value, cinematic appeal, dark humour and morally ambiguous characters about whom you are unsure whether to root for or not.

DC FINEST Killing Joke

Before diving into the more modern batman lores wanted to have a taste of the late 80s Batman so collected and finished this DC finest volume.

  1. It was a rough start did not enjoy the opening stories but it got better as the volume progressed.

  2. Most of stories are kind of smash and grab with a lot of colour not suitable for readers looking for a serious read.

  3. It worked out for me beacause I switched on my dwindling teenage side of my brain .

  4. The stories that stood out are Victims , Ratcatcher , Night people with the trippy music and story, Ten Knights of the beast and the show stopper stories Son of Demon and Killing Joke , alan moore is one of the best writers.

  5. Works best if looking for an extended sabbatical in between fat serious books.

After the disappointment with Grave Peril took a break from the series and then came back with a bang with Summer Knight.

  1. It amazes my how improved and wonderous the writing has become and hopefully it will continue on.

  2. Thankfully the book did not rest solely on Harry's shoulders and the world expanded to the white council and faerie courts which were really well done.

  3. The prose changed in tone from wonderous to fast paced seamlessly. However, some action scenes were over indulgent.

A good fun entertaining read and thankfully Summer Knight didnot disappoint.
