Grade III AC separation — can I return to heavy weightlifting without surgery?
had this X-ray taken about 1 month ago after a motorcycle accident. I was told I have a Grade III AC joint separation with torn AC/CC ligaments.
One orthopedic surgeon told me I could avoid surgery if I don’t have high athletic demands. Another told me that if I want to return to heavy weightlifting/bodybuilding, surgery would be the better option.
My shoulder function has improved significantly over the past month. I can now raise my arm overhead, reach behind my back, cook, wash dishes, etc., with much less pain. I don’t have a feeling of instability or that the shoulder is going to “come out.”
My main question is: if I continue with conservative treatment, has anyone with a similar Grade III AC separation been able to return to heavy resistance training/bodybuilding without surgery?
If so, were you able to do pressing movements such as chest press, incline press and shoulder press?
Anyone with a Grade III AC joint separation who returned to heavy weightlifting?
I recently suffered a Grade III AC joint separation after a motorcycle accident. One orthopedic surgeon told me I could avoid surgery if I don’t have high athletic demands. Another told me that for daily life I’ll be fine, but if I want to return to heavy weightlifting (bench press, incline press, shoulder press, etc.), surgery is the better option.
I’m mainly interested in hearing from people who lift weights or do bodybuilding.
Did you choose surgery or conservative treatment?
If you didn’t have surgery, were you able to return to heavy lifting?
Do you have pain, weakness, or instability during bench press or overhead movements?
If you had surgery, was it worth it? How long did it take to get back to training?
I’d really appreciate hearing real experiences. Thank you!

Chest Fat or Gynecomastia? And Will the Pubic Fat Go Away?
I’ve lost a significant amount of body fat, but I still have two stubborn areas: my chest and the fat around my pubic area (FUPA).
My question is:
How can I tell whether the fullness in my chest is just stubborn fat or mild gynecomastia?
If it’s only fat, is it realistic to expect it to shrink further as I continue lowering my body fat percentage?
Is the fat around the pubic area simply one of the last places to lean out for men, or is there anything that helps besides continuing to lose overall body fat?
For context, I’m strength training regularly, eating a high-protein diet, and focusing on gradual fat loss while maintaining muscle mass.
Lat pulldown question
Do you guys feel an actual burn or pump in your lats during lat pulldowns, or do you mostly just reach failure without that burn? I’m trying to understand what’s normal for proper lat engagement.
