Be honest: Could you sit in this lecture, learning all the theory with the professor without getting bored with no more than 5 seconds invested every minute in anywhere other than the professor, his chalkboard, his lecture and your notes?

Controversial: Sex is to Masturbation what Generationology is to Decadeology.

Most decadeologists don't want generationology coming into decadeology (which is fair enough to dedicate a subreddit to it) and I know I will get downvoted like crazy with this post but hear me out:

I like to quote one of the best Theoretical Physicists of the modern era Late Professor Richard Feynman in his metaphysical idea to understand the nature of the universe from quark to cosmos who said ''Physics is to Mathematics like sex is to masturbation.'' essentially every physical law (something with physics governing it) has a mathematical language that translates to its beauty which the core translator is given by Mathematics. So I'm not criticizing decadeology or praising generationology or vice versa, rather I'm admiring both without bringing the other one down as their both interrelated just like Mathematics and it's derivative Physics is to the great professor Feynman. Obviously there not interchangeable that's why we have separate subreddits dedicated to both but there unique in their own way and that's what is the best part of having both Subreddits!:)

  • Generationology is to sex: Is about relationships between groups, interaction across generations, inheritance, conflict, influence, and shared social experiences. The focus is outward and relational.
  • Decadeology is to masturbation: Is more self-contained. It examines a single decade (the 1980s, 1990s, etc.) as a cultural unit without requiring interaction with other periods. It's about immersing yourself in one era's aesthetics, media, and identity.

Why the analogy works:

  • Sex involves two or more participants interacting → generationology is fundamentally comparative (Boomers vs. Gen X vs. Millennials vs. Gen Z, etc.).
  • Masturbation is self-directed → decadeology can focus almost entirely on one decade's internal culture, fashions, music, technology, and vibe.

Hence it's like talking about masturbation and sex as two separate topics, which has led to two different subreddits on this platform for the two.

Half of Core/Middle and Late/Younger Gen-Z after Elementary School vs after Secondary school vs after University/Work (Not gatekeeping anyone but just a disclaimer that 2007-2009 born Younger Gen-Z will more likely relate to this post better)

Literally half of Middle Gen-Z after Elementary School vs after Middle School/High School vs after College/University/Work

What generation did your grandparents belong to?

Calculate it by taking the average of each of their date of birth years. I'll start by mine:

I was born in 1985, My paternal grandfather was born in 1911, paternal grandmother was born in 1929, maternal grandfather was born in 1919 and maternal grandmother was born in 1924 which gives me an average of 1920.75 which is part of the younger part of the greatest generation (1914-1927).

Nice to think that within the next 10 years this subreddit will be only for Alphas with only Alphas!

As right now more than half of the people were born in the 2000s or earlier who are just coming in as intruders (which includes me ngl), 2010-2012 Zalphas 25%, and 2013+ prob. only another 25% of the subreddit. within the next 10 years all Gen Alphas will be young adults or teenagers and this will be the prime of the subreddit and all of the 2000s or earlier borns will all diminish out from a place they (including me ig) don't belong.

Hybrid 2010s-2020s kids (Born 2010-2013) / Zalphas how much would you say COVID had an impact on your life and childhood in general?
